A new species, Amaranthus spinosus L. ( Amaranthaceae), is reported for the first time for the Flora of Turkey. The specimens were collected from a corn field around Kazıklıbucağı village of the Karataş district of Adana province (C5).

The Flora Of The Forest Series Of Yirce-Bürmece-Kömürsu And Muratdere (Bilecik-Bursa, Turkey), Cengi̇z Türe, Süleyman Tokur

A field study was carried out to determine the flora of the forest series of Yirce-Bürmece-Kömürsu and Muratdere (Bilecik-Bursa) during 1992-1995. In terms of species and subspecies, the flora of the area consisted of 505 taxa including 358 species, 90 subspecies and 46 varieties belonging to 299 genera of 79 families. Nine taxa are new for A2 and 56 are new for B2 square. The highest number of taxa were from the families of Asteraceae 10.0% and Fabaceae 9.2%. The phytogeographical distribution was as follows: Euro-Siberian elements 15.7%, Mediterranean elements 10.5%, Irano-Turanian elements 7.3%. The rate of endemism was 5.9% …

We recorded 81 macrofungal species collected from the Antalya region. They are distributed within 29 families, 7 belonging to the Ascomycetes and 74 to the Basidiomycetes.

A new species, Physalis angulata L. (Solanaceae) is reported for the first time for the flora of Turkey. The specimens were collected from cotton, corn and soybean fields in the Ceyhan, Karataß, Kozan, Yumurtalık (C5) and Osmaniye (C6) districts of Adana, and the Tarsus district of İçel (C5).

This paper deals with the floristical characteristics and the taxa of the vascular plants of Gülümbe Dagi. Between the years 1992 and 1995, 1035 plant specimens were collected from the study area. After the identification of these specimens, 456 taxa at specific and subspecific ranks belonging to 74 families were determined. Sixty-three taxa were defined as new records for the A2 square. The largest family was found to be Asteraceae (52 species) and the second largest was Fabaceae (51 species). The largest genera were AlyssumL. and Salvia L. (8 species each). A Neglected Lichen Collection From Turkey: Berkhamsted School Expedition 1971, Volker John, Mark R. D. Seaward, Jeff W. Beatty

Discovery of the unpublished report of the Berkhamsted School lichenological expedition to Turkey in 1971 and a reappraisal of the complementary (almost complete) collections in The Natural History Museum, London (BM), have added considerably to our knowledge of the Turkish lichen flora. In all, 171 taxa are listed, of which 21 species are new to Turkey and 220 records are new to one ore more of the 11 provinces; many additional records pre-date those made as a result of the upsurge of interest in the Turkish lichen flora over the past decade.

The Flora Of The Agricultural Areas In Enez (Edirne) And Environs, Mesut Ki̇reç, Celal Yarci

This work was carried out in the agricultural areas of Enez (Edirne) and environs. The study area has suitable conditions for plant species richness such as different microclimates, soils, and intensive agricultural activities. A total of 150 taxa were identi-fied belonging to Pteridophyta (2), and Spermatophyta (148). Of these, 118 taxa of Spermatophyta are in Dicotytedoneae and 30 taxa are in Monocotyledoneae. The results show that 8 taxa are new records, 1 for Thrace, 5 for A1 square and 2 for European part of A1 square.

Field studies were conducted to determine the flora of Uludağ (Bursa) National Park during 1988, 1989 and 1996. Almost 180 plant specimens were collected in these studies. After the identification of these specimens, 85 taxa at specific and sub-specific ranks were determined. Of these, 28 taxa are new to the Al grid-square. In addition, Polytrichum commune var. perigoniale (Michx.) Hampe is a new record for the moss flora of Turkey.

Vascular Flora Of The Liebre Mountains, Western Transverse Ranges, California, Steve Boyd

The Liebre Mountains form a discrete unit of the Transverse Ranges of southern California. Geographically, the range is transitional to the San Gabriel Mountains, Inner Coast Ranges, Tehachapi Mountains, and Mojave Desert. A total of 1010 vascular plant taxa was recorded from the range,representing 104 families and 400 genera. The ratio of native vs. nonnative elements of the flora is 4:1, similar to that documented in other areas of cismontane southern California. The range is noteworthy for the diversity of Quercus and oak-dominated vegetation. A total of 32 sensitive plant taxa (rare, threatened or endangered) was recorded from the range.

During the vegetation period, a total of 52 plant specimens were collected from Uludağ National Park (Bursa) between 1988 and 1989. At the end of this investigation, 23 liverwort species were identified, belonging to 15 families and 17 genera. Of these, 4 taxa are new for the Al grid-square. Jungermannia hyalina Lyell, Marsupella funckii (Web. & Mohr) Dum and Calypogeia azureaStotler & Crotz, are reported for the second time from Turkey.

Pollen Flora Of Pakistan - X. Leguminosae(Subfamily: Caesalpinioideae), Anjum Perveen, Mohammad Qaiser

The pollen morphology of 11 species representing 5 genera of the subfamily Caesalpinioideae from Pakistan was examined by light and scanning electron microscope. Caesalpinioideae is ± a eurypalynous subfamily. The pollen grains are generallly radially symmetrical, isopolar, tricolporate and triangular-trilobed. The tectum is commonly reticulate-rugulate or fossulate-foveolate, and often striate. The pollen morphology of the subfamily is significantly useful at the generic and specific levels. On the basis of apocolpium, mesocolpium and tectum features, three pollen types were recongnized, namely, B auhinia variegata - type , Caesalpinia pulcherrima - type and Senna holosericea - type.

The algal flora at 4 stations chosen on Aksu Stream were investigated between September 1993 and August 1994. The flora consisted of 73 taxa belonging to the Bacillariophyta, Chlorophyta, Cyanophyta and Euglenophyta divisions. The species of Navicula Broy., Nitzschia Hassall, SurirellaTurpin, Amphora Ehr., Cymbella Agardh, Concconeis Ehr., Fragilaria Lyngbye and Synedra ulana (Nitz.) Ehr. were found to be widespread. Apart from members of Bacillariophyta, Oscillatoria limosa (Roth.). C.A.A.gardh., Oscillatoria formosa Broy. and Merismopedia punctata Meyen ( Cyanophyta) were observed to be abundant and frequent, in the year when the research was carried out. The plants listed in this study were collected in the districts of Dörtyol and Erzin (Hatay) between 1989 and 1992. The study area, situated at the middle of Amanos Mountains, has a climate typical of its topographic structure and geographical position in the Mediterranean region. During floristic studies, 629 vascular plant taxa, belonging to 328 genera and 98 families were de-termined. The distribution of these taxa according to phytogeographic regions are as follows: 29.9% Mediterranean, 10.3% Euro-Siberian, 5.8% Irano-Turanian and 54.0% cosmopolitan and unknown. Pollen Flora Of Pakistan - Xi. Leguminosae(Subfamily: Mimosoideae), Anjum Perveen, Mohammad Qaiser

The pollen morphology of 14 species representing 5 genera of the subfamily Mimosoideae from Pakistan has been examined using light and scanning electron microscopy. Mimosoideae are eurypalynous subfamily. The pollen grains are united (polyads) or free. Single grains are tricolporate and triangular - trilobed. The pollen morphology of the subfamily is significantly useful at generic and tribal level. The 3 pollen types recognized ie, Acacia nilotica - type, Mimlosa hamata - type and Prosopis juliflora - type, correspond closely with tribal classifications.

This paper gives the distribution of lichens in the Thrace region determined in this study and in nine previous studies as well. The genus Placidiopsis ( Verrucariaceae) is recorded for the first time in Turkey and thirty-three of the species are recorded for the first time for the region. With the completion of this study, the number of known lichen species in the region reaches 201.

Mibora minima (L.) Desv. ( Gramineae) and Trifolium ornithopodioides (L.) Sm. ( Leguminosae) are added new to the Turkish flora from localities in Turkish Thrace. Their diagnostic characters are briefly described and their ecology and conservation discussed.

Flora Of The Area Between Amasya Castleand The Villages Of Vermis And Yuvacik, Arzu Cansaran, Mustafa Aydoğdu

This study covers the flora of the area between Amasya Castle and the villages of Vermis and Yuvacık. In 1994, 670 plant specimens were collected in the study area and examined. At the end of the study, 75 families, 287 genera and 412 species were determined. The total number of taxa was found to be and 412 species were determined. The total number of taxa was found to be 420, 46 (10.95%) of which are endemic. The distribution rates of the specimens into phytogeographical regions are as follows: Irano-Turanian, 15.71%; Mediterranean, 9.52%; and Euro-Siberian, 7.38%.

The number of vascular plant taxa reported from San Clemente Island, California, is briefly summarized. Recent additions to the vascular flora are presented and, with one exception, representative voucher specimens are cited as substantiation. Of the taxa di scussed, 68 are previously unreported taxa, and six are substantiations of previously dubious reports. An additional dozen taxa are cited in relation to clarifications or deletions. Based on current knowledge, we estimate the known flora to consist of 396 species with an additional 19 infraspecific taxa represented. The Santa Ana Mountains, part of the Peninsular Ranges of southern California, have been welldocumented floristically. Nevertheless, since publication of a preliminary vascular flora for the range in 1978, a significant number of additions have been reported. These are principally from studies of two subregions in the southern portion of the range and include 42 taxa from the Santa Rosa Plateau and 88 taxa from the San Mateo Canyon Wilderness Area. Documentation is provided here for an additional 66 taxa not included in other published floristic accounts of the Santa Ana Mountains.
