Comparison Of Soil Fungi Flora In Burnt And Unburnt Forest Soils In The Vicinity Of Kargıcak (Alanya, Turkey), Ayşe Di̇lek Azaz, Osman Pekel

Out of the 50 soil samples taken from burnt forest land in the vicinity of the village of Kargıcak in Alanya and from the adjacent normal forest soils by the Soil Dilution Plate Method 84 different species and 12 sterile microfungi taxa were obtained. Seventy-eight of them belong to Hyphomycetes, five to Mucorales and one to Coelomycetes. The richest taxa were Penicillium (34 species), Aspergillus (16 species) and Cladosporium (5 species). As a result of quantitative analysis, it was determined that there was average of 43,780 propagules of microfungi in a bulk of fresh burnt forest soil equivalent to 1 …

Nineteen New Records From Sarıyar Dam Reservoir Phytoplankton For Turkish Freshwater Algae, Tahi̇r Atici

Nineteen new records of Turkish freshwater algae were determined in a study of the phytoplankton from Sarıyar dam reservoir. One of these species was from the Cyanobacteria, 14 were from the Chlorophyta, three were from the Euglenophyta and one was from the Heterokontophyta.

The monotypic Clastopus Bunge ex Boiss. (Cruciferae) is recorded for the first time from south-east Turkey. The diagnostic characters of C. vestitus (Desv.) Boiss. are described and its ecology and conservation discussed.

Isoetes Toximontana (Isoetaceae), A New Quillwort With Green Megaspores From The Northern Cape Of South Africa, Lytton John Musselman, J. P. Roux

Isoetes toximontana is only the second quillwort reported from the Northern Cape region in South Africa. It occurs in shallow water on the Gifberg. Megaspores are uniformly tuberculate on the proximal surface; their distal surfaces may have occasional rugi along with bullae. They are olive green when dry. Microspores are brown and aculeate. Preliminary field studies suggest that an unexpected diversity of quillworts is found in this region.

The degree of genetic diversity within any species is crucial to its survival with respect to environmental stresses and its ability to adapt. As native Iowa prairie plant populations continues to diminish, genetic diversity within the state becomes crucially important for restoration, reconstruction, and conservation efforts. This study seeks to determine the degree of genetic variation within native Iowa populations of Panicum virgatum (switchgrass) and Coreopsis palmata (prairie coreopsis, tickseed, prairie tickseed). Plants were obtained directly from the tallgrass prairie, from native seed plantings, and from greenhouse grown cultivated varieties (switchgrass).
