Testig Growth Of Elodea Nuttallii (Palnch.) H. St. John With Different Culture Media, Hani̇fe Özbay

The Growth rate of Elodea nuttallii (Planch.) H.St.John was tested in different culture media. Effects of snail was also determined on the growth rate of the plant. E. nuttallii grew well in the canal sediment medium. It also grew well in Steinberg Solution No 1, but not in Steinberg Solution No 2 and JIC:sand media. Overall the snail treatment did not significantly affect the growth rate of E. nuttallii in all tested growth media.

The Bryophyta Flora Of Giresun Province Centre And Near Vicinity, Turan Özdemi̇r

In this study, 73 taxa were identified by the author. These belong to 28 families and 47 genera of Bryophyta. Of these, 13 taxa (Pogonatum nanum P.Beauv., Encalypta alpina Sm., Tortula norvegica (Web.) Wohl. & Lind., Barbula vinealis Brid., Gymnostomum calcareum Nees & Hornsch., Grimmia donniana Sw., Bryum gemmiparum De Not., Epipterygium tozeri (Grev.) Lind., Pterogonium gracile (Hedw.) Sm., Homalia trichomanoides (Hedw.) B.S.&G., Cratoneuron commutatum (Hedw.) Roth., Scorpiurium circinatum (Brid.) Fleisch. & Loeske, Eurhynchium praelongum var. rigidum Boul.) are new for the A4 grid-square adopted by Henderson & Prentice (1961). In addition, 20 taxa are new records for Giresun province.

A Study On The Past And Present Diatom Flora Of Two Alkaline Lakes, Sabri̇ Kilinç, Erdal Ridvan Sivaci

The diatom flora of Lakes Hafik and Tödürge was studied qualitatively. Each lake was sampled monthly during two periods. The first period was between April 1986 and June 1987 in Lake Hafik and between August 1990 and October 1990 in Lake Tödürge. The second period was between December 1999 and July 2000 in both lakes. A total of 94 diatom taxa belonging to 25 genera and 53 diatom taxa belonging to 21 genera were identified in Lakes Hafik and Tödürge respectively. A Synopsis Of The Ferns And Fern Allies Of Nebraska, With Maps Of Their Distribution, Steven B. Rolfsmeier, Robert B. Kaul, David M. Sutherland

An annotated list and country-by-country distribution maps are presented for the 32 species of ferns and fern allies native to Nebraska, based upon field and herbarium studies and critical evaluation of the literature. Native to the state are Isoëtes melanopoda, Selaginella rupestris, five species of Equisetum, and 25 species in 18 genera of ferns. Three native species are here verified for the first time, based upon recent collections: Matteuccia struthiopteris var. pensylvanica, Ophioglossum engelmannii, and Pellacaglabella ssp. glabella. Soy products contain isoflavones (genistein, daidzein, and glycitein)that display biological effects when ingested by humans and animals, these effects are species, dose and age dependent. Therefore, the content and quality of isoflavones in soybeans is a key to their biological effect. Our objective was to identify loci that underlie isoflavone content in soybean seeds. The study involved 100 recombinant inbred lines (RIL)fr om the cross of ‘Essex’ by ‘Forrest,’ two cultivars that contrast for isoflavone content. This investigation was carried out between 1995 and 1996 in order to research the vegetation of Çimen Mountain (Kahramanmaraş). The research area is situated at about 20 km to the south-west of Kahramanmaraş. Vegetation studies were carried out according to the Braun-Blanquet method. The authors determined 10 plant associations, all of which are new syntaxa to science, in three different vegetation types. Vegetation tables are given in an appendix.

This study was undertaken in order to investigate wild plant species locally consumed as food in Upper Çoruh Valley. The plant species were collected in the late winter and spring, and their taxonomic identifications were made. The plants identified were Plantago minor L., Polygonum bistorta L., Astrodaucus orientalis L., Camelina rumelica Boehm., Lathyrus tuberosus L., Galium rotundifolium L., Chenopodium album L. and Chenopodium album L. Analyses were carried out to evaluate the nutritional values of the plant parts. The highest dry matter, ascorbic acid, nitrogen, protein, phosphorus and potassium contents were determined to be 20.87 g.100 g^{-1} , 161.25 mg.100 …

Contributions To The Macrofungi Flora Of Bitlis Province, Abdullah Kaya

This study was carried out on macrofungi samples collected in Bitlis province between 1997 and 2000. As a result of field and laboratory studies, 60 species belonging to 17 families were identified. Four of them, Coprinus xanthotrix Romagn., Psathyrella atomata (Quél) Fr., Rhodocybe fallax (Quél) Sing. and Polyporus meridionalis (David) Jahn., are new records for Turkey.

The Flora Of The Boyabat (Sinop) Dam And Its Environs, Hasan Korkmaz, Ali̇ Engi̇n

This study was carried out over three years, from 1990 to 1993. The study area is situated between Kepez gorge and Devrez stream of Kızılırmak valley. In the study area, 1016 species belonging to 441 genera and 99 families were identified. Distribution rates of the species in terms of phytogeographic regions are as follows: 12.40% Euro-Siberian, 3.83% Euxine, 0.68% Hyrcano-Euxine, 11.31% Irano-Turanian and 9.74% Mediterranean. The number of endemic species is 106 and the rate of endemism is 10.43%.

For callus production, hypocotyl, cotyledon, petiole and leaf explants from seedlings of different sugar beet ( Beta vulgaris L.) breeding lines were cultured on MS medium containing BAP or KIN in combination with NAA or 2,4-D at 0.0, 0.5 or 1.0 mg/l. The use of both auxins in combination with 0.5 mg/l BAP or 0.5 mg/l KIN resulted in greater amounts of callus from all types of explants. However, hypocotyl and cotyledon explants produced significantly more callus than petiole and leaf explants when the means of all lines were taken into account. The pollen morphology of 8 species belonging to a single genus, i.e., Impatiens L., of the family Balsaminaceae, was studied by light microscope and scanning microscope. It is stenopalynous in nature. Pollen grains oblate to sub-oblate, rectangular, tetra-colpate, colpi very short (brevicolpate). Tectum reticulate. Palynology of the family confirms its monotypic status.

The clypeate pollen grains of some species of Turkish Iris L. (Iridaceae) taxa belonging to the subgenus Scorpiris Spach have been investigated. Attention is given to characteristics of exine sculpturing and the exine shields using light microscopy and scanning electron microscopy. The pollen grains of the Scorpiris are shown to be uniform, especially with regard to pollen shape and exine sculpturing. However, a trend towards greater pollen size accompanied by higher exine shield number is noted from the less specialised taxa to the more specialised taxa. In this article, the floristical characteristics of Berit Dağı (Berit Mountain) are given and the vascular plant species growing there are documented. Berit Dağı is situated in the north-west of Kahramanmaraş province and at the south of Anatolian diagonal. It is in the transitional zone of the Irano-Turanian and Mediterranean phytogeographical regions. The research was carried out between 1977 and 1981. Approximately 2500 plant specimens were collected from the area. At the end of the study, 1132 vascular plant species (1165 taxa) belonging to 97 families and 462 genera were identified. In this study, Z (trans-Zeatin) and ZR (trans-Zeatin Riboside) levels in the roots, stems, leaves, flowers and fruits of maize plants (Zea mays L.) were determined using high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC). Plants were grown in media containing macro elements (nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium, calcium, magnesium, sulphur and iron) in optimum, deficient and excess concentrations. According to the average Z values for all periods, the highest Z levels were determined in the roots of plants treated with excessive P (-P); in stems, female flowers treated with excessive K (-K) and in leaves and kernels treated with excessive Ca (-Ca). Epipelic and epilithic algae of Dağbaşı lake were studied qualitatively between June and September 1988. The algal flora was found to consist of 103 species, 53 belonging to Bacillariophyta, 31 to Chlorophyta, 15 to Cyanophyta and 4 to Euglenophyta.

In this study, three Cyanophyceae species new for Turkey are reported. These specimens are Oscillatoria bonnemaisonii (P.Crouan & H.Crouan) P.Crouan & H.Crouan, Microcoleus chthonoplastes Thuret (Oscillatoriales) and Dichothrix spiralis Fritsch (Nostocales). They were determined to be epiphytic on the other algae which were found at the upper-infralittoral zone of the bay of İskenderun (Mediterranean Sea, Turkey).

Twenty-eight species and six subspecies of the hemiparasitic genus Striga Lour., witchweed, occur in Africa. Twenty-two species are endemic. Witchweeds occur throughout the continent with greatest diversity in the grasslands and savannas north of the equator. Striga gesnerioides (Willd.) Vatke and S. hermonthica (Del.) Benth. have developed host-specific strains that may have distinct morphotypes. me accord these no formal taxonomic status. Striga hermonthica and S. asiatica (L.) Kuntze, limited to agroecosystems, may be recently derived from non-ruderal species. Striga hirsuta Benth. and S. lutea Lour., sometimes treated as conspecific with S. asiatica, are recognized as distinct species restricted …
