A Revision Of Cryptantha Subgenus Oreocarya, Larry C. Higgins

This study is a taxonomic revision of Cryptantha subgenus Oreocarya (Boraginaceae), together with descriptions of species, synonyms, distribution maps, and discussions. The present treatment recognizes fifty-seven species and fourteen varieties, all separated by means of a comprehensive key, A history of the group, along with a discussion of distribution, ecology, and phylogeny is presented. As a basis for the comparison of taxa much of the research has been concentrated on morphological variation in herbarium specimens. Particular attention has been directed to a study of pubescence types, branching patterns, flowers, calyces, and fruit. The herbarium research has been correlated with extensive …

THIS article deals with three species of Gastrolobium which are found in the south-west region of Western Australia. Two of these extend into the Eyre District, the third species is found in the Lake Grace area. The fourth species, Wall-flower poison, is the only toxic species of the genus found outside the State.

ABSTRACT - The vegetation and soils of the Abies balsamea/Lonicera canadensis/Cornus canadensis habitat type were characterized from field reconnaissance, soils and plant tissue analysis of six balsam fir stands of Northeastern Minnesota. From nutrient analysis, the concentration of phosphorous and potassium was found to be much higher in living balsam fir needles than in surrounding soils.

ABSTRACT- The vessel members of Myrica escu/enta from two_ trees, one in Sarawak, the other in Singapore, are described. The differences in habitat as well as in vertical position in each-tree have a minor influence on dimensional characteristics of the vessel members. However, radial position is very significant. Average length of element increases from 600μ, to 950μ, b~tween .05 cm from the pith to 1.75 cm from the pith and then ceases to elongate appreciably. This is a review of the use of public lands in Wah Wah and Pine Valleys in western Utah for grazing of livestock, mining, and other private enterprises. The total area of the two valleys is approximately 1,440 square miles of which about 30 square miles are privately owned. From the time grazing of domestic livestock was initiated in the 1870's and 1880's until 1934, the land was free public domain and was grazed on a first-come, first-served basis. Passage of the Taylor Grazing Act in 1934 ended free use of public lands. Existing evidence indicates that by 1934 the …

The problem of phylogenic relationships within the iguanine phyletic line and the Madagascar iguanids have been investigated in order to explain the discontinuous distribution exhibited by the members of the family Iguanidae. Owing to inconclusive results from cytology and histological methods, the comparative morphology of the anterior osteology, myology, tongues, and hemipenes were used to determine relationships.

The aim of the visits was to examine the islands for the presence of native mammals and other fauna, and to explore the possibility of re-establishing fauna now extinct,

Millstream has long been recognised as an unique and outstanding area, both scenically and from a biological aspect. The area of prime interest consists of a series of deep pools in the bed of the Fortescue River (about 15 miles long including Gregory Gorge) and the springs and streams which feed them. Most of the springs are in the sides of the river bed but one of the largest is about 1% miles to the south. This feeds a swift flowing stream running north into the river bed.
