Species distribution patterns, community structure, and dynamics are determined on a small scale by soil and habitat heterogeneity. The aim of this work is to evaluate the temporal changes in composition and structure of a tree community, revealing the ecological drivers of the observed vegetation patterns. For 16 years (2000, 2005, 2010, and 2016) we monitored the temporal variations in structure and floristic composition of a semideciduous seasonal forest through 20 × 20 m2 (400 m2) plots, totaling 2.08 ha of sampled area encompassing Cambisol (0.4 ha), Oxysol (1.12 ha), and Nitosol (0.56 ha) soil classes. Tragopogon Abbreviatus (Asteraceae): A Little-Known Species Inferred From Morphological And Molecular Analysis, Kami̇l Çoşkunçelebi̇, Mutlu Gültepe, Murat Erdem Güzel, Serdar Makbul

Turkish Journal of Botany

Tragopogon porrifolius occurs in Turkey with 3 taxonomically confused subspecies: T. porrifolius subsp. eriospermus, T. porrifolius subsp. longirostris, and T. porrifolius subsp. abbreviatus. In the present paper, T. porrifolius subsp. abbreviatus endemic to Turkey is raised at specific level based on morphological and molecular analysis. After detailed assessment of original herbarium specimens and literature studies, we found that this name is not typified yet. Thus, a lectotype is provided together with an emended diagnosis; synonym, distribution map, and conservation status for the first time. Additionally, a preliminary phylogenetic position of this little-known taxon is given on several newly sequenced data.

This study aimed to characterize the stem, peduncle, and leaf anatomy of 22 species of Sedum senso lato distributed in Iran. The results showed that the presence of tanniniferous storage cells in stems and leaves, distinct xylem vessels in stems, and the shape of peduncle cross sections, were taxonomically informative evidence, and isolated Phedimus from the other studied taxa of Sedum s.l. , whereas hairy leaves and peduncles containing starch storage cells were identified as Prometheum and Hylotelephium respectively. This study aims to identify wild plants used for medical purposes by local people of the Ballakayati district of Erbil in North Iraq, and to determine the local names and uses of those plants. The study was carried out for approximately 3 years between 2016 and 2018. During this period of time, 85 plant specimens were collected. Demographic characteristics of the participants, names of the local plants, used parts of these plants and their preparation methods were investigated and recorded. The rol oncogenes of Agrobacterium rhizogenes enhance the production of medicinally important compounds in plants and provide a first barrier against the overproduction of reactive oxygen species during biotic and abiotic stress. This study was designed to evaluate the expression of genes involved in biosynthetic pathways and their impact on metabolic contents and environmental stress tolerance in regenerated Ajuga bracteosa Wall. ex Benth. After successful transformation, real-time quantitative PCR confirmed the increased expression (1.94-6.59-fold) of HMGR, HDS, FDS, PAL, and TTG1 genes in transgenic lines. The Far Eastern weed Artemisia verlotiorum was formerly reported from Lebanon. However, for a number of reasons this record was questionable. In 2019, the genuine presence of this species was confirmed based on macromorphology and strengthened by assessing the somatic nuclear DNA content (genome size or 2C-value) of the Lebanese populations.

This study evaluated the phytoplankton communities based on functional groups to obtain information about the water quality of Lake İznik, Turkey. The phytoplankton consisted of 103 taxa, classified in 12 phytoplankton functional groups (PFGs), with dominancy of 5 species, Chrysosporum ovalisporum, Dolichospermum mendotae, Planktothrix rubescens, Fragilaria capucina and Mougeotia sp. The Shannon-Wiener diversity index (H') was calculated and results ranged between 0.41 and 2.47. The redundancy analysis (RDA) and Spearman's correlation analysis were used to assess the relationships between the PFGs and environmental variables. Astragalus aybarsii H. Duman & Aytaç (Fabaceae) is described and illustrated as a new species from Kastamonu province (Turkey). The new species grows in open areas of Pinus brutia Ten. forests. Diagnostic and morphological charactersof the new species are compared with its close relatives, A. setulosus Boiss. & Balansa and A. eubrychioides Boiss. Also, some notes on the ecology, biogeography, conservation status and the pollen morphological and leaflet micromorphological features of the new species are presented. The geographical distribution of this new species and its allied species is mapped.

In this study, the synopsis of the taxa of the genus Trigonella in Turkey is presented. It is represented with 34 taxa in Turkey. The name of Trigonella coelesyriaca was misspelled to Flora of Turkey and the correct name of this species, Trigonella caelesyriaca, was given in this study. The endemic Trigonella raphanina has been reduced to synonym of T. cassia and T. balansae is reduced to synonym of T. corniculata. The aim of this paper was to determine how the pistachio trees evolve, and the evolving factors that influence pistachio population establishment. For that, we investigated pistachio genetic structure from some regions of Tunisia, by sequencing two noncoding chloroplastic regions (trnL (UAA) and trnL-trnF intergenic spacer). We found strong genetic diversity among groups, with the absence of high differentiation between population pairs. A deep phylogeographical break separated two major clusters: "El-Guetar and "Gafsa/Sidi-Bouzid. Micromorphological characteristics of 13 Trifolium species, which are grown in the province of Bolu, were examined using a scanning electron microscope (SEM). The morphological characteristics determined from the study were subjected to morphometric analyses and their variation spectrums were defined. Tricolporate pollen grains showed two pollen shapes, prolate and subprolate, according to equatorial view. Orobanche cumana is a parasitic plant that can lead to advanced losses in yield of agricultural lands cultivating sunflower, depending on the sunflower varieties and the level of contamination. In our study, genetic diversity of six O. cumana populations from the Thrace region of Turkey was determined with the help of eight SSR (microsatellite) loci. All SSR loci were polymorphic. Effect Of Some Immunomodulators And Zeatin On Susceptibility Of Wheat To Powdery Mildew, Alexander Babosha

The effects of zeatin, salicylic acid, and plant oligoadenylates on susceptibility of wheat seedlings to powdery mildew and the shape of dose-response curves for immunomodulation were studied. Salicylic acid and zeatin produced complex dose-responses with upregulation or downregulation of plant susceptibility. Under different experimental conditions, the dose-response curve for zeatin varied in shape from a curve with a maximum to a curve with a minimum of susceptibility to powdery mildew. More complicated curves with a resistance region framed with regions of increased susceptibility were also found. Atriplex mollis Desf. (Amaranthaceae), a North African endemic halophytic species, is further described in this study. Phylogenetic analysis based on a combined dataset of ITS and ETS rDNA and atpB-rbcL and trnK cpDNA showed that A. mollis is closely related to the Malta- and Gozo-endemic Cremnophyton lanfrancoi Brullo & Pavone. Given this close phylogenetic relationship, A. mollis is also considered among the oldest species of Atriplex, together with C. lanfrancoi. Molecular data also suggest that A. mollis in North Africa, C. lanfrancoi on Malta Island, and Atriplex cana Ledeb.in Eurasian semideserts constitute a separate clade within the tribe Atripliceae. Hypericum turcicum (Hypericaceae) is described and illustrated as a new species from Beypazarı in Ankara Province in Northwest Anatolia, Turkey. The new species belongs to the section Oligostema, and it is closely related to H. aucheri. Diagnostic characters, description, detailed illustrations, ecology, and pollen and seed morphology are presented in this study. In addition, this study evaluates H. kazdaghense, which was previously accepted as a synonym of H. aucheri, as a distinct species and discusses the similarities and differences between H. turcicum and H. aucheri.

Saxifraga artvinensis V.A.Matthews, which is endemic to Turkey, was discovered on Tiryal Mountain (A8 Artvin, northeastern Turkey). Approximately 175 km from its type locality, a new population of the species was discovered, in the Picea orientalis forest in the Altındere Valley National Park, in A7 Trabzon (northeastern Turkey). The Tricholoma biodiversity of the Aegean region of Turkey has been determined and reported in this study. As a consequence of field and laboratory studies, 31 Tricholoma species have been identified, and five of them (T. filamentosum, T. frondosae, T. quercetorum, T. rufenum, and T. sudum) have been reported for the first time from Turkey. The identification key of the determined taxa is given with this study.

Rodr., Bordallo, Kaounas & A.Morte (Pezizaceae), Genea hispidula Berk. ex Tul. & C.Tul., Lamprospora campylopodis W.D.Buckley, Lamprospora tuberculatella Seaver, Octospora grimmiae Dennis & Itzerott, Octospora lilacina (Seaver) Svr?ek & Kubi?ka, Pulvinula convexella (P.Karst.) Pfister, Ramsbottomia crechqueraultii (P.Crouan & H.Crouan) Benkert & T.Schumach., and Trichophaea gregaria (Rehm) Boud. (Pyronemataceae), are recorded for the first time from Turkey. Wrinkled Surface On Helical Cell Wall Thickening Of Vessel Elements In Flower Style, Ming Xing, Jian You, Xia Chen

In the present study, wrinkled surfaces were discovered on the cell wall thickenings of helical vessels in the lilac style for the first time. The structure of the wrinkles was formed by cellulose microfibrils, with convex ridges composed of crystalline cellulose and concave grooves composed of amorphous cellulose. The cellulose microfibrils were oriented with the helical cell wall thickenings. The wrinkle morphology was due to the aligned crystalline region of the microfibrils. In this study, three new hybrids from the genus Cirsium are described for the first time. Cirsium ×nezaketiae Yıldız, Dirmenci & Arabacı, C. ×kelkitensis Yıldız, Arabacı & Dirmenci, and C. ×erzincanicum Yıldız, Dirmenci & Arabacı are investigated in detail morphologically, palynologically, and molecularly. The hybrid individuals were detected on field trips due to their intermediate morphological characters. Their morphological properties were analyzed to compare with their parents. The pollen grain morphologies of the hybrids and their allies were investigated using light and a scanning electron microscope. Macro- and micromorphological features of fruit and seeds belonging to 12 taxa genera of Matthiola W.T.Aiton were studied via stereomicroscope and scanning electron microscope. In macromorphological studies, the following variables were investigated: the shape, size, and color of fruit and seeds; the length of fruiting pedicel; the structure of the median vein; stigma (horns); and trichome properties and density in fruit. In micromorphological studies, the presence or absence of seed wings, seed coat pattern in disc and wing, and epidermal cell shape in disc and wing were determined. Aluminum (Al) toxicity is a serious factor restricting crop productivity in acid soil, and Al is the major cause of phytotoxicity. However, the role of Al toxicity in interprimer binding site (iPBS) polymorphism, genomic instability, and DNA methylation has not been fully investigated. In the current study, the effects of different Al concentrations on iPBS polymorphism, genomic instability, and DNA methylation were investigated in seedlings of three wheat cultivars: Haymana 79, Kılçıksız, and Bezostaja 1.
