Among the many clinical conditions found in human beings, by both physician and surgeon, metabolic changes in the mucosa or peptic ulcer, as they are commonly known, stand out prominently from a purely scientific point of view, because of the divergent views brought forth during the past hundred yea.rs by even the ablest men. Peptic ulcer is a condition which manifests itself by a disturbance of the alimentary and digestive tracts, locally shown by an erosion of the devitalized cells of the mucous membrane.
