The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of packed RBC infusion upon ratings of perceived exertion (RPE), Three types of RPE were measured: 1) local muscular RFE, 2) cardiopulmonary RPE, and J) general RFE, The subjects, 16 experienced long distance male runners, undertook four treadmill runs to exhaustion, Subjects were matched according to time to exhaustion (ET) on the first trial (T1), and assigned to either an experimental (E) or control (C) group, Both groups had 46o ml blood withdrawn following Tl, T2 served as a baseline test and was administered about two weeks following blood withdrawal, …

The intent of the study was to establish a ten week cardiovascular exercise program for a paraplegic amputee and evaluate the effects through a selected battery of physiological tests and measurements. Included were body weight, skinfold thickness, reaction time, grip strength, static and dynamic lung volumes, heart rate, blood pressure, resting VO2 and maximum VO2. A careful training record was kept and the subject also made observations concerning his feelings about the training.

A Comparison Of The Effects Of Two Therapeutic Exercises On The Muscle Action Potential Of The Vastus Medialis, Janet J. Lozar

Electromyography was utilized to compare the effects of two therapeutic exercises at two work loads in knee extension on the muscle action potential in the vastus medialis. One exercise was extension to 180 degrees with a four second isometric hold and flexion to 90 degrees. The other exercise was extension to 180 degrees, 15 degrees flexion, 15 degrees extension and flexion to 90 degrees. Each exercise lasted for 10 seconds.

It was the purpose of this study to investigate the relationship of oxygen debt and blood pH change during the recovery from exercise.

For this study, ten male members of the Eastern Illinois University track team were chosen as subjects on the basis of their levels of physical condition.

The subjects were tested on three different occasions. The first test for all subjects was a fifteen minute resting oxygen consumption. The purpose of the study was to investigate the rate of lactate removal from the blood of trained distance runners, during recovery from maximal intermittent exercise.

Five well trained male subjects (mean VO2 max of 69.79 ml/kg/min) were selected for the study. Four of the subjects were members of the 1975 Intercollegiate Cross Country team and one was a member of the 1975 Intercollegiate Soccer team at Eastern Illinois University. The major parameter of interest was the effect of iron supplementation on endurance capacity of female college athletes. Secondary parameters included the evaluation of the effect of iron supplementation on the following hematological variables: white blood cell count, red blood cell count, hemoglobin concentration, and hematocrit. Nineteen volunteer female students enrolled at the College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, Virginia served as subjects, All were members of the swimming team. All test trials and venipunctures were done at the women's gym at the College of William and Mary. There were two test periods.

A limited number of investigations dealing with the effects of caffeine upon human physical performance have been conducted. Since caffeine is a central nervous system stimulant and it is a constituent of the popularly-consumed beverages - coffee, tea, and cola drinks, it would appear that numerous studies would have been conducted in order to determine the effect of caffeine upon human muscular performance. The purpose of this study was to compare the effects of three different isokinetic velocities on the development of muscular power. Seventy-five college females were matched into four equal groups according to the average of their pre-test scores on the Vertical Power Jump Test and the Power Staircase Test. Group I served as the control group, while all 3 of the experimental groups performed the same isokinetic exercise at different pre-set rates of speed. The purpose of the study was to determine through electromyography whether a non-pathological fault, such as lateral asymmetry at the pelvic level, would hinder, in significant manner, efficient functioning of the body.

The purpose of the study was to investigate the changes associated with blood pH and different exercise work loads during competition. Finger tip blood samples (1 milliliter), were obtained from 33 male subjects from the varsity swimming and track teams of Eastern Illinois University. The samples were taken prior to exercise and between three and seven and one half minutes after cessation of the event. The blood samples were analyzed with a Radiometer Micro Blood pH Unit.
