The endometrium undergoes extensive cyclical remodeling essential for reproductive success; however, the molecular mechanisms governing these processes in donkeys (Equus asinus) remain poorly characterized. To address this gap, we performed high-throughput RNA sequencing on endometrial tissues collected from Dezhou donkeys (n = 16) at four post-ovulation stages: Day 0 (ovulation), Day 3 (early luteal), Day 7 (mid-luteal), and Day 18 (late luteal/pre-luteolysis). Differential gene expression analysis, Gene Ontology enrichment, and KEGG pathway mapping were conducted to characterize temporal transcriptomic dynamics. There is currently limited knowledge of the biological communities inhabiting cave ecosystems in South America. This study examines the vertebrate community composition of 21 caves across diverse subterranean ecosystems in Colombia using environmental DNA (eDNA) analysis. Water was collected from water bodies inside caves and subterranean systems in six of the eight speleological regions of Colombia in eight departments. Water was filtered manually through a 0.8 m pore size filter and preserved with Longmire solution. Therefore, species of the genera Ompok and Kryptopterus should be conserved and domesticated to ensure their long-term persistence. Moreover, the accurate documentation of the existence and taxonomic validity of Ompok and Kryptopterus species is crucial. Accordingly, this study aims to assess the species diversity of the genera Ompok and Kryptopterus in the Mahakam River, East Kalimantan, Indonesia. Down syndrome (DS) impacts about 1 in every 640 childbirths in the United States. While quality of life has improved for people with DS, systemic inequities and deficit-based perceptions have persisted throughout history, with material impacts on people with DS and their caregivers. Researchers have documented how caregivers of children with DS have had negative experiences with healthcare providers and genetic counselors, whose biased views about DS translate into subtle and overt pressures. Sugarcane is a major global source of sugar, with total production reaching 1.89 billion t. Although the Philippines produces about 1.85 million t of sugarcane annually, yields are limited by downy mildew and smut. Developing varieties resistant to these pathogens is the most economical and practical approach to mitigating losses from these biotic stresses. In this study, SSRs related to disease resistance were developed through Next-Generation Sequencing (NGS) of the filtered genomes of sugarcane varieties with known phenotypic responses to downy mildew. The expansion of free genetic testing services in India, resulting from government policies like the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission, corporate-sponsored initiatives, and international collaborations, makes it easier to access genomic services for early identification of inherited disorders such as thalassemia, sickle cell anemia, and certain genetic kidney diseases, particularly in tribal populations. However, this review reveals significant clinical and ethical challenges. Clinically, Western-based genotyping platforms, not tailored to India’s genetic diversity, risk inaccurate results, including false positives and negatives, complicating clinical decision-making. Arabidopsis thaliana is a model organism used by scientists to study plant genetics, development, and physiology. CRISPR-Cas9 is a biotechnology tool adapted from a bacterial defense mechanism to precisely edit DNA using a guide mRNA and a Cas9 protein. This project aims to create CRISPR-CAS9 mutations in the APETALA3 (AP3) gene of the model plant Arabidopsis thaliana. AP3 is a class B gene critical to the petal and stamen development of Arabidopsis flowers. The AP3 protein contains a MADS domain, which binds directly to DNA and may be responsible for the expression of the CaRG-box genes. AP3 works in conjunction …

Autosomal dominant polycystic kidney disease (ADPKD), caused by the PKD1 c.10063C>A mutation, is a prevalent inherited feline disorder, but its allele frequency in Vietnam remains unidentified. This study aimed to determine the carrier frequency of this variant in British Shorthair, Maine Coon, and Ragdoll cats in Ho Chi Minh City and to correlate genotype with ultrasonographic phenotype. Ninety-seven client-owned cats were genotyped for the pkd1 mutation using PCR-RFLP. A subset of 47 cats also underwent abdominal ultrasonography to detect renal cysts. Introduction: Knee ligament ruptures are common injuries among athletes. While most previous studies examined single collagen gene polymorphisms, few have investigated haplotype-level associations across multiple genes, particularly in elite handball players. Materials and methods: This case-control study analyzed variants in eight collagen genes (COL1A1, COL1A2, COL3A1, COL5A1, COL11A1, COL15A1, COL22A1, and COL27A1) in 103 elite Polish handball players with non-contact knee ligament rupture and 226 matched controls. Fragrance in rice is a culturally and economically significant trait in Asia and around the world. This study aimed to develop a genetic and geographic profile of the fragrance-associated BADH2 mutations (badh2.1 and badh2.11) in 1,067 rice varieties from China, Laos, and Vietnam, which are part of the International Rice Genebank Collection. Seventy-three varieties were found to carry the common eight-base pair (bp) deletion in exon 7 of the genes (badh2.1, also known as badh2.7), primarily from indica varieties, with some belonging to japonica, javanica, and intermediate varieties. Extremely diversified cropping environments prevail in most cotton-growing areas of Pakistan due to prevailing rainfed conditions, prolonging the crop’s cultivation period. To contribute to the development of desired breeding traits for effective breeding programs, this study examined the production and growth pattern of 8 cotton genotypes. With the increasing availability of computational methods including machine learning-based approaches, network-based methods, and sequence-based methods, predicting protein functions has become more accessible. However, it is not clear which of these methods performs better or how they compare to each other in terms of accuracy, efficiency, and scalability. Many preoperative and postoperative cataract patients struggle with comprehending the use of prescription medication as directed. Language barriers and low health literacy levels are major factors contributing to improper use of prescriptions. To increase patients comprehension, the Fort Lauderdale Eye Institute employed an educational intervention consisting of a live presentation and an instructional video. Results found that 44% of patients were hesitant to ask questions to clinical staff, 32% felt overwhelmed, and nearly 70% lacked confidence in using their prescribed eye drops. Cytogenetic stability is essential for the survival of micropropagated plants. While micropropagation allows rapid propagation of plants with desirable phenotypes, it may also produce genetic variations that are, at times, cytogenetically observable. Factors affecting these variations are not fully understood, and micropropagation protocols are optimized to produce genetically stable regenerants. The genetic stability of micropropagated plants is traditionally assessed by comparing the phenomorphological traits of the regenerants to the mother plant. However, genetic variation does not often result in obvious morphological changes. Therefore, molecular and cytogenetic markers are typically used to evaluate the genetic variations of regenerants. Lynch Syndrome and Constitutional Mismatch Repair Deficiency are human diseases implicated in mutations of DNA mismatch repair (MMR) genes. This experiment tested a mutation of an MMR gene, MSH6, and evaluated how the mutation affected overall MMR effectiveness. Using the yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae, we performed the CAN1 forward mutation assay to study msh6-L696F and its implications in the MMR process. We hypothesized that there would be a significant change in molecular function in the Msh6 protein in the presence of this mutation. This project aims to create CRISPR-CAS9 mutations in the APETELA3 (AP3) gene of the model plant Arabidopsis thaliana. AP3 is a class B gene critical to the petal and stamen development of Arabidopsis flowers. AP3 is defined in a MADS domain, which binds directly to DNA and may be responsible for the expression of the CaRG-box genes. AP3 works in conjunction with PISTILLATA (PI), AGAMOUS (AG), APETALA1 (AP1), and SEPALLATA (SEP) genes to specify the development in the second and third whorls of the flower. Aphelenchoides besseyi, a nematode, can infect rice resulting in the white shoot disease, which decreases the germina-tion rate and even causes seedling death. The genus Plumeria, locally known as kalachuci, is a popular ornamental tree belonging to the Apocynaceae family. The University of the Philippines Los Baños (UPLB) maintains a collection of Plumeria trees scattered across its campus; however, the origin of these trees remains unclear due to a lack of proper documentation. This study conducted morphological characterization and pollen analysis to provide information for further research. Results revealed the presence of 2 Plumeria species in the campus. Gram-negative bacteria, particularly Enterobacteriaceae, acquire antibiotic resistance via horizontal transmission of resistance genes in poultry farms that give rise to multidrug-resistant (MDR) strains. The presence of MDR strains that are potentially pathogenic and zoonotic poses a concern to animal and human health. The aims of this study were to isolate MDR, potentially pathogenic Enterobacteriaceae from Philippine native chicken (PNC) and to analyze the genome of a representative MDR isolate to gain insights into the mechanisms, acquisition, and transmissibility of antibiotic resistance genes (ARGs). This study aimed to determine the morphology and molecular characteristics of Sau-rida spp. from Banyuwangi (Indonesia) and Jizan (Saudi Arabia). Meristic and morphometric analysis was performed for morphological identification, whereas COI gene analysis was performed for molecular identification. Cyprinella leptocheilus sp. nov., Siouan Thinlip Chub, is described as a new species that is endemic to Sand Hills and upper Coastal Plain streams in North Carolina and South Carolina. Mental disorders, such as anxiety and mood disorders, have long been a focus of psychological research, and increasing evidence points to a genetic basis for their occurrence. Polymorphisms of the serotonin transporter (5-HTT) gene (SLC6A4) may predispose an individual to anxiety-related symptoms. SLC6A4 has two common alleles: the short (s) allele, which results in less 5-HTT protein production, and the long (l) allele, which results in more 5-HTT. Integrated findings from psychometric evaluations, behavioral animal models, and biological assessments establish a link between the s allele of SLC6A4 and heightened anxiety phenotypes. Defects in the DNA mismatch repair process results in the accumulation of mutations and disease. Mutations in MSH6 and MSH2, encoding for the subunits of the MutSα complex, are often responsible for Constitutional Mismatch Repair Deficiency (CMMRD) and Lynch Syndrome (LS), respectively. This work focused on DNA mismatch repair through analysis of the MSH6 missense variant msh6-K336T. The mutation examined in this study is msh6-K336T in Saccharomyces cerevisiae, which is equivalent to msh6-K431T in humans.
