The Şanlıurfa-Harran plain was firstly opened to irrigation in the South-eastern Anatolian Project, called GAP. Available mechanisation investment and agricultural structure should be known to estimate new requierements for the future in this plain. In this research, agricultural structure and mechanisation characteristics by a questeonnaire conducted before irrigation. Each farm has at least one tractor. In conclusion, it was found that average farm size was 35.5 hectars, plot size was 11.7 hectars, number of tractors per farm was 1.7, tractor engine power was 46.8 kW, number of machines per tractor was 3.8, fuel consumption of the tractor was 2 244 …

Possiblities of in vitro multiplication of salep orchids, which have a great danger of extinction from nature, was investigated. Orchis anatolica Boiss, Orhcis coriophora L., Ophyrs bornumuelleri Schulz, Ophyrs phrigra Fleischm. et Borm., Serapias vomeracea and Himantoglossum affine, which are growing commonly in the East Mediterranean Area, were cultured in vitro by using embryo culture. In order to culture salep embryos, 14 different media were used. The highest average germination rate and plant formation from protocorm were found as 2.39% and 1.86%, respectively on Van Waes Debergh + Tomato Ekstract + Active Carbon (VW&D + TE + AC) media. The …

This study was conducted with the objectives of determining effect of trickle discharge rates and amount of irrigation water applied on water distribution in the soil profile and to estimate the emitter spacing by the Wooding method and wetting front in the wetted soil volume in a clay soil. Total volume irrigation water of 16, 32 and 64 L were applied with discharge rates of 2, 4, 6 and 8 L/h and water has moved laterally to a distance of 45-60 cm from the trickle source 48 hrs after water application. This study was undertaken to investigate effect of molecular sieves on the esterification reaction between lauric acid and geraniol in isooctane catalyzed by immobilized lipase in a batch and continuous-loop packed-bed reactor. Molecular sieves were used to reduce the inhibitive effect of water formed during the reaction by removing it as it formed. Results in a batch reactor showed that, for the molecular sieves to have a pronounced effect on the performance of the enzyme, a ratio of at least 2:1 with respect to the weight of the immobilized enzyme must be used. This three-year study was conducted in order to determine suitable legume and grass species and their mixtures for meadow establishment under irrigated conditions of Erzurum. In the study, legumes species of alfalfa and red clover and grass species of timothy, red fescue, perennial ryegrass, meadow fescue, kentucky bluegrass and bromegrass, and their binary mixtures were compared. As an average mixtures gave higher hay and crude protein yields and higher mixture efficiency (land equivalent ratio) than pure stands. The percentage of legumes in hay was 66.7% in mixtures. In this research, mechanical behavior of traditional and alternative joints which are used on construction design of furniture frames have been investigated. Those members which are taken into the frames construction as tension, bending and shear strength members with dowel, mor-tise- tenon joints with adhesive and two types of furniture connectros and a combination of both of them are five types of joints have been tested totaly under static load. Results indicate that the alternative joints which are provided flexible connections are more succesful than traditional joints which are provided rijit connections.

In this study, the holding ability of three different types of screws to particle board, Medium Density Fiberboard (MDF), werzalit and beech wood which are widely used for furniture production, were investigated. The holding direction of the screws to all materials surface were both parallel and perpendicular. The experimental results showed that on the perpendicular direction, beech wood materials showed the best screw holding strength and it was followed by werzalut, MDF and particle board respectively. The Effects Of Soil Water Deficits On Biochemical Changes Of Some Nectarine Cultivars, Nilüfer Kaynaş, Atilla Eri̇ş

In this study some biochemical changes of Independence, Nectared-4 and Necrtared-8 cultivars grafted on Nemaguard rootstock in different watering regimes were investigated. The potted plants in the greenhouse were watered at available water ca-pacity. When the outside temperature was the highest then the watering levels were changed by giving 100 %, 75 %, 50 % and 25 % of available soil water. In all nectarines, leaf chlorophyll-a, chlorophyll-b and total chlorophyll contents decreased with limited water given to the plants. This study was conducted to determine the effects of various nitrogen sources and different nitrogen rates on yield and the yield components of the Saraybosna cultivar under the ecological conditions of Bursa plain. The field experiment was established in randomized block design with four replications at the Experimental Farm of Agrucultural Faculty, Uludağ University. This research was conducted in Ankara conditions in order to determine corn yield response to water. When 50% of available water content in root zone is consumed in the control treatment, irrigation water was applied to the other treatments with 0%, 25%, 50%, 75%, 125%, 150%, 175% and 200% of those applied into check plots. As a result, applications of ex-cessive water was not increased grain yields at the important level. Yield response factor (k y ) for total growing period were found as 0.96 respectively.

In this investigation, the effects of some slow release and conventionally used fast release nitrogen sources in the soils of Nigde-Misli plain on tuber yield, and protein, starch and NO 3 contents of tubers of the potato plants grown under greenhouse condi-tions were determined. In this study, sapwood and heartwood samples obtained from Oriental spruce growing naturally only in East Black Sea region were investigated. Trees of 36-44 cm diameter were obtained from the Karahava region of Maçka Forest District. The discs examined were cut at 2 m above the lower end of the stems. Sapwood and heartwood samples from each discs were taken from 12 th growth ring after cambium and 7 th growth ring after the pith, respectively. Variations in Ca, P, Fe, Cu, Zn and Mn contents of six wheat (Gerek, Bolal, Kıraç, Çakmak, Bezostaya and Kızıltan) and six rice varieties (Ribe, Tri-445, Serhat 92, Kros 424, Baldo and Rocca) under salt stress were investigated. Growth was inhibited by salinity. Salinity decreased P content of Kızıltan, while increased rice cultivars of Tri-445 and Kros 424. Some quality characteristics of frankfurter type sausages (with 30% total fat) produced by adding sunflower oil at different levels (10%, 20% and 30%) were determined and compared to control with 30% animal fat. In this research general agricultural farms, vegetable farms and hazelnut farms in Çarsamba province have been explored. The effects of production inputs on agricultural incomes have been explained. General agricultural farms and vegetable farms in the area have increasing retums to scale while hazelnut farms have constant returns to scale. Underemployments is not a general case but depend upon the farming system in the region.

The characteristics of polyphenol oxidase (PPO) from "Hale Haven" peaches were investigated. "Aceton Powder" was first prepared from peaches at three different maturity stages, namely unripe, half-ripe and fully ripe. The optimum pH, Michaelis costant (Km), maximum velocity (Vmax) as well as thermal inactivation of enzyme activity were studied with the enzyme solution prepared form "Aceton Powder". According to the degree of maturity, the pH optimum of PPO was between 6.0 and 6.5. The enzyme from fully ripe peaches showed a Km of 14.3 mM for catechol and Wmax of 1.25 OD min -1 mL -1 at pH 6.8. According to experimental results of two crop rotation cycles higher soil microbiological activities (i.e.b-Glucosidase and dehydrogenase activity) were obtained from soil samples of winter lentil plots in comparision to fallow plots. Highest activities of both parameters were found in the upper soil layer of 0-20 cm depth. The observed differences between lentil and fallow disap-peared during the following cropping season. Similar tendencies were also obtained for organic matter, total nitrogen and total porosity volume in the soil. The presence of Yersinia entrocolitica and L. monocytogenes in total 211 raw milk samples were investigated. The research was carried out for four years in the two locations Haymana-Ankara and Gözlü-Konya under different climate characteristics of the Central Anatolian Region. The aim of the reseach was to improve soil fertility in dry farming areas and to increase the benefit from fallow areas. Different soil tillage treatments and lentil-wheat versa fallow- wheat rotations systems resp. were examined in these experiments. The repellent effects of the extracts of Xanthium strumariumfruits and leaves dilueted with 1/6, 1/8, 1/10 water (w/v) for fruits and 1/6, 1/8 (w/v) for leaves were investigated with randomised plot design and 25 replicates under laboratory conditions. Insecticidal effect was also studied in laboratory. It was found that insecticidal effect was low, where as repellent effect was quite high. On the other hand, the effect of 1/6 concentration of fruit extract against adult and larvae of Colorado Potato Beetle was investigated under field conditions and the repellent effect was confirmed.

The foraging ecology of Apis mellifera syriaca and A. m. armeniaca was studied using artificial flower patches consisting of blue, white, and yellow flowers. Two experiments were performed with each race. Experiment I examined forager response to differences in sucrose reward molarity (quality of reward) associated with flower colors. Experiment II varied the quantity of sucrose reward associated with flower colors. A. m. syriacaand A. m. armeniacaeach responded to quality and quantity differences between blue and white flowers. In this study, the effect of diniconazole which is used to control of rose rust ( Phragmidium mucronatum) was investigated by reducing the application number and lowering the dose by addition of a spreader-sticker (Citowett). As a result, the following four doses and 3 application times (April 15+April 27+June 13) of each provided 100% control; recommended dose with spreader-sticker addition, recommended dose without spreader-sticker, half of the recommended dose with spreader-sticker, half of the recommended dose without spreader-sticker. The modes of penetration and infection of the isolates belonging various anastomosis groups (AG-2 type 1, AG-2 type 2, AG-3, AG-4 and Ag-5) of Rhizoctonia solani Kühn isolated from potatoes were investigated on the underground stems of the host. During the process of penetration, infection cushions were observed in all isolates in addition to the formation of labote appressoria by AG-3, AG-5 and direct hypel penetration of AG-4. Numerous fine infection pegs formed from infection cushions grew between or into epidermal cells following the penetration of cuticula. Assessment Of Response To Drought Stress Of Chickpea(Cicer Arietinuml.) Lines Under Rainfed Conditions, Cengiz Toker, M. İlhan Çağirgan

Totally sixty four chickpea lines were grown for assesment of response to drought stress in the stress and non-stress environments under rainfed conditions. The seed yield of the lines when grown under the non-stress condition increased at a rate of 53% over the in stress condition. The line, FLIP 92-154C, was determinated as the best tolerant line to drought stress environment under the field condition. Also, seed yield strongly correlated with biological yield, harvest index, mean productivity, tolerance to drought stress and drought susceptibility index in the stress environment.
