Food safety issues, such as food adulteration between halal and non-halal meats, are among the most serious problems in Muslim countries like Indonesia. Food adulteration produces a mixture of products that cannot be detected visually by customers, and it could lead to several social and health problems. The availability of a detection method that can disti-nguish between porcine and non-porcine meats is very important, particularly one that can be utilized in small-scale labo-ratories. The aim of this study was to design and optimize species-specific primers that could distinguish between porcine and non-porcine meats in processed foods by utilizing NADH Dehydrogenase …

Observations On The Biodegration By Solid State Fermentation Of The Giant Swamp Taro (Cyrtosperma Merkusii) Biomass By Two Endolichenic Fungi Isolates, Maria Helena, Helen Joan Lawalata, Dino Rahardiyan, Livana Dethris Rawung, Emma Mauren Moko Dec 2024

Giant swamp taro (GST/Cyrtosperma merkusii), a local North Sulawesi coastal plant, is underutilized but has high po-tential for cultivation as a paludiculture plant on rewetted peatland restorations. GST has high starch content and is currently being explored for potential use. This study explored the potential of using the biomass pulp yielded as resi-dues of the starch extraction process. Endolichenic fungi (Trichoderma reesei and Aspergillus aculeatus) isolated from local lichens, were inoculated on the GST biomass in a solid state fermentation (SSF). Findings of this study indicate that both isolates were effective in degrading the lignocellulosic biomass of GST over an …

Phenotypic Correlation, Path Analysis, And Quantitative Trait-Based Selection Of Elite Wheat Genotypes Under Heat Stress Conditions In The Terai Region Of Nepal, Radhakrishna Bhandari, Binod Panthi, Shivalal Nyaupane, Sandesh Shrestha, Prabin Sharma, Rajesh Kumar Gupta, Sansar Sahani, Mukti Ram Poudel Sep 2024

Phenotypic Correlation, Path Analysis, And Quantitative Trait-Based Selection Of Elite Wheat Genotypes Under Heat Stress Conditions In The Terai Region Of Nepal, Radhakrishna Bhandari, Binod Panthi, Shivalal Nyaupane, Sandesh Shrestha, Prabin Sharma, Rajesh Kumar Gupta, Sansar Sahani, Mukti Ram Poudel

Makara Journal of Science

Wheat is one of the most important cereal crops worldwide, but the production and productivity of wheat is affected by heat stress. A field experiment using an alpha lattice design with seven blocks was conducted on 35 elite wheat genotypes in the Terai region of Nepal to identify the most appropriate trait resulting in a high-yielding wheat genotype with high tolerance to heat stress. Correlation analysis revealed that booting-to-heading duration (BtoH), booting-to-anthesis duration (BtoA), plant height (Ph), spike length (SL), spike weight (SW), thousand grain weight (TGW), straw yield (SY), and total biomass yield (TY) had a significant positive correlation …

Enhancing Lovastatin Biosynthesis In Oyster Mushrooms (Pleurotus Ostreatus) Using Phytohormones, Fransisca Astrid Mustafa, Mamat Kandar, I Nyoman Pugeg Aryantha

Makara Journal of Science

The biosynthesis of lovastatin, the anti-cholesterol compound, in oyster mushrooms (Pleurotus ostreatus), has the potential to be enhanced by utilizing phytohormones, which activate the expression of certain genes. This research aimed to determine the best type and concentration of phytohormone among auxin, gibberellin, and cytokinin, as well as the best mycelial colonization percentage in F2 medium to realize the greatest increase in lovastatin biosynthesis in oyster mushrooms. Lovastatin was extracted from the fruiting bodies and mycelia and analyzed by spectrophotometry. The analysis of CYP450 linked to lovastatin biosynthesis was conducted by quantitative polymerase chain reaction (qPCR) using samples containing …
