The term hormone may be define as any substance normally produced and secreted by cells in one part of the body and carried by the blood stream to some other part where it is effective in low concentrations in regulating and co-ordinating the activities of the cells. However, hormones cannot be defined as belonging to any particular class of chemicals. All hormones are organic substances, but some are proteins while others are relatively simpler chemical compounds, such as amino acids and steroids.
