A Study On Apodemus Iconicus Heptner, 1948 (Mammalia: Rodentia) In Turkey, Ercüment Çolak

The karyological, bacular and phallic aspects of Apodemus iconicus Heptner, 1948, in Turkey were examined for the first time. The diploid number of chromosomes was 2n = 48, the number of autosomal arms was NFa = 46, and the fundamental number was NF = 48. The X chromosome was large acrocentric, and the Y chromosome was small acrocentric. The baculum was composed of a distal and proximal part, the average length of which was 3.74 mm. The phallus showed two notches near the crater, and a groove extending along the phallus on the ventral side.

Age-Dependent Cranial Variations In Mesocricetus Brandti (Mammalia: Rodentia) Distributed In Turkey, Nuri̇ Yi̇ği̇t

Animals were assigned to four age groups according to molar wear, field notes and external and cranial measurements. Six days-old animals were referred to newborn, up to 30 days as young and thereafter as adult; animals with very worn molars were considered old. In addition to the statistical differences among age groups, it was determined that the main morphological differences were in the interorbital constriction, the shape of the braincase, the ridges and the position of occipital condyles. Cockroach Infestation In Some Hospitals In Trabzon, Turkey, Bi̇lal Kutrup

The distribution and abundance of cockroaches were investigated in six hospitals in Trabzon. A total of 4756 (692 females, 652 males and 3412 nymphs) cockroaches were caught between 1^{st} October 1999 and 30^{th} January 2000. It was found that three cockroach species were present in hospitals. Of these, Blattella germanica was the predominant species with 98.25%, followed by Blatta orientalis (1.12%) and Periplaneta americana (0.63%). Although the German cockroach, Blattella germanica, was found in all areas of the hospitals, Blatta orientalis and Periplaneta americana were only caught in kitchens. A total of 470 frogs were examined for helminth infection: 220 specimens of the green toad Bufo viridis, 65 of Savigny's tree frog Hyla savignyi and 185 of the Levantine frog Rana bedriagae. Six species of adult platyhelminths (trematodes, monogeneans and cestodes) were found to infest the three frog species: two monogeneans, Polystoma integerrimum (23%) and Polystoma viridis (8%); two digenetic trematodes, Pleurogenoides tacapensis (14.5%) and Prosotocus confusus (11%); and two cestodes Nematotaenia dispar (35%) and Nematotaenia chantalae (8.5%). A Taxonomical Study On The Zooplankton Of Göksu Dam Lake (Diyarbakır), Aysel Bekleyen

Turkish Journal of Zoology

The zooplanktonic fauna of Göksu dam lake was taxonomically investigated between April 1995 and December 1996. As a result, 16 species of cladocerans, three species of copepods and 28 species of rotifers, a total of 47 species, were identified in the lake. Of these, Monommata arndti (Rotifera) is a new record for Turkey's inland waters.

A large number of molluscan shells were collected from the seas of Turkey (the Mediterranean Sea, the Aegean Sea, the Sea of Marmara and the Black Sea) and examined to determine their species and to point out the species found in each sea. The examination revealed a total of 610 shell species and many varieties belonging to various classes, subclasses, families and subfamilies of mollusca. Twenty-four (16 male, 8 female) specimens of the Mediterranean spur-thighed tortoise Testudo graeca were examined from Mardin, southeastern Turkey. For morphological comparisons, 15 morphometric characters and 31 ratios developed by combinations of straight carapace length (SCL) and straight carapace width (SCW) were investigated. Data on the abundance, reproduction, diet and damage index of the soft-furred field rat Millardia meltada were collected during the rice and wheat seasons. The abundance of Millardia meltada remained high at the post-harvest stage of the rice and wheat crops. The ploughing of fields did not affect the abundance of Millardia. The mean annual prevalence of pregnancy was 50% and the mean embryonic litter size 6.2 ± 0.4. Sphaerospora elegans Thelohan, 1892 and Myxobilatus gasterostei Davis, 1944 infections in the three-spined stickleback (Gasterosteus aculeatus L., 1758) were studied from January to May 2000. Infection prevalence and intensity values were determined for mixed infections to be 26.5% and 3+ (0-5) parasites per fish, respectively. These values for each species were also determined. While infection prevalence and mean intensity values for S.elegans were 11.9% and 3+ (0-5), they were 17.9% and 3+ (0-5), respectively, for M. gasterostei.
