The First Record Of Age Structure And Body Size Of The Suphan Racerunner, Eremias Suphani Başoğlu & Hellmich, 1968, Nazan Üzüm, Azi̇z Avci, Yusuf Kumlutaş, Nuretti̇n Beşer, Çeti̇n Ilgaz

The age structure of Eremias suphani was studied from a high-altitude (2180 m a.s.l.) locality in eastern Turkey. A total of 24 preserved (16♂♂, 7♀♀, and 1 juvenile) specimens were used in this study. According to the skeletochronological analysis, ages ranged from 6 to 9 years (mean: 7.38 ± 0.22 years) in males and from 6 to 10 years (mean: 7.86 ± 0.51 years) in females. The amblyceran and ischnoceran lice removed from the Indian Peafowl (Pavo cristatus L.) collected at the Riyadh bird market, and other specimens available in the King Saud University Museum of Arthropods, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, were identified. Amyrsidea minuta Emerson, a new country record, and Goniodes dissimilis Denny were found infesting the Indian Peafowl in Saudi Arabia. Goniodes dissimilis is recorded for the first time from this bird species, along with Menacanthus stramineus (Nitzsch), the well-known chicken body louse. Phylogenetic Relationships Among Populations Of Pristurus Rupestris Blanford,1874 (Sauria: Sphaerodactylidae) In Southern Iran, Sugol Yousofi, Eskandar Rastegar Pouyani, Vida Hojati

We examined intraspecific relationships of the subspecies Pristurus rupestris iranicus from the northern Persian Gulf area (Hormozgan, Bushehr, and Sistan and Baluchestan provinces). Phylogenetic relationships among these samples were estimated based on the mitochondrial cytochrome b gene. We used three methods of phylogenetic tree reconstruction (maximum likelihood, maximum parsimony, and Bayesian inference). The sampled populations were divided into 5 clades but exhibit little genetic divergence between populations, suggesting that these all represent a single species and subspecies. The Egyptian mongoose is the only member of the family Herpestidae in Turkey. The species is distributed mainly in Africa, and Turkey constitutes the northernmost distribution margin of the species. Thus far, a natural specimen's karyotype from an area with a known locality for H. ichneumon has not been studied. The karyotype of a male specimen from Hatay was determined to be 2n = 43, NF = 71, NFa = 66. The X1 and X2 chromosomes were middle-sized metacentric, and the Y chromosome was middle-sized telocentric. A synopsis is provided of the parasites of common carp Cyprinus carpio L. From water bodies of Turkey based on literature data from 1964 to 2014. In total, 45 studies were included in the review and these provided data from 41 water bodies, comprising 12 man-made reservoirs, 21 natural lakes, and 8 water courses. Forty-one different taxa (including molluscan Glochidium sp.) in total were recorded. Of these taxa, 2 had not been previously reviewed for Turkey, and 4 were excluded from the list because of dubious identification. In order to study the fauna of Rogadinae (Hym., Braconidae) of Turkey, adult specimens were collected from different habitats of the provinces of Ardahan, Erzurum, Iğdır, Kars, and Muş (partially) in the northeastern Anatolian region of Turkey between 2011 and 2014. Specimens were collected from a total of 115 localities. All specimens were obtained from natural vegetation or agricultural areas by using either a sweeping net, Malaise traps, or light traps. The catalase activity, total protein, and total RNA levels of worker bees of different age groups (4, 9, 15, 20, and 24 days old) within the same honeybee colony were studied. The catalase activities of group I (4 days), group II (9 days old), group III (15 days old), group IV (20 days old), and group V (24 days old) were 4.10 ± 0.59, 4.32 ± 0.57, 4.32 ± 0.57, 4.41 ± 0.49, and 4.47 ± 0.48 kU/g, respectively. Within the context of this study, conducted in 2007 and 2008, 64 species of the genera Allohelea Kieffer, Alluaudomyia Kieffer, Atrichopogon Kieffer, Bezzia Kieffer, Brachypogon Kieffer, Culicoides Latreille, Dasyhelea Kieffer, Forcipomyia Meigen, Leptoconops Skuse, Palpomyia Meigen, and Stilobezzia Kieffer were reported in the Central Black Sea Region of Turkey. Among them, three genera (Allohelea, Alluaudomyia, and Brachypogon) and 26 species are new to the country's fauna.

This work is a contribution to the knowledge of the Ephemeroptera (Insecta) fauna of the central Balkan Peninsula. A total of 85 mayfly species (31 genera and 12 families) were reported. The largest number of mayfly species was recorded within the Ju?na and Zapadna Morava river basins, while the lowest taxa richness was observed within the Sava basin. The highest diversity was observed in hilly mountainous regions due to the general environmental requirements of the majority of mayfly taxa, as well as the distribution of anthropogenic stress. An updated checklist of the species of Turkish Raphidioptera and further analysis concerning their zoogeographical distribution are presented in this study. The present checklist has been based on studies from the literature and includes records from extensive material that I have identified over the last few years. The Turkish Raphidioptera presently comprises 40 species in 8 genera and 2 families. There are 38 species of Raphidiidae, while there are only 2 species of Inocelliidae in Turkey. Two flat mite genera, Aegyptobia Sayed and Pentamerismus McGregor (Acari: Tenuipalpidae), are reported for the first time from Saudi Arabia based on 2 new species, Aegyptobia arabica sp. nov. and Pentamerismus bahaensis sp. nov. Specimens of A. arabica and P. bahaensis were collected from Hammada sp. (Amaranthaceae) and Thuja occidentalis L. (Cupressaceae), respectively. In addition, Aegyptobia tragardhi Sayed is recorded from Saudi Arabia for the first time.

A systematic study has been carried out on hard ticks from Ankara Province, Turkey. Between April 2010 and July 2012, 1800 tick specimens belonging to 9 species were identified at 31 locations in 9 districts. Tick species are listed as follows: Rhipicephalus sanguineus group (43.44%), Rhipicephalus bursa (36.67%), Hyalomma marginatum (8.83%), Haemaphysalis parva (6%), Hyalomma aegyptium (2.39%), Hyalomma excavatum (1.33%), Dermacentor marginatus (1.06%), Haemaphysalis punctata (0.22%), and Hyalomma detritum (0.06%). Faunistic and ecological data on 44 species from 3 genera of subtribe Apodacrina are given: Apodacra (13 species), Xeromyia (13 species), and Xerophilomyia (18 species). An original key to the genera is presented. Apodacra radchenkoi Verves & Khrokalo sp. nov. from Turkey is described as being new to science. One species is recorded for the first time for Afghanistan, 2 for Azerbaijan, 2 for Egypt, 2 for Greece, 8 for Israel, 1 for Kazakhstan, 1 for Kyrgyzstan, 6 for Tajikistan, 1 for Tanzania, 3 for Turkey, 2 for Turkmenistan, and 3 for Uzbekistan.

A survey on the fauna of the Cryptinae of Isfahan Province was carried out in the summer of 2012. Specimens were collected using Malaise traps and sweeping nets. Nine species belonging to 9 genera of Cryptinae occurring in Isfahan Province were collected and identified. Among them, 7 species have been recorded from Iran previously. These species are Cryptus inculcator (Linnaeus, 1758); Dichrogaster saharator (Aubert, 1964); Gelis areator (Panzer, 1804); Lysibia nana (Gravenhorst, 1829); Mesostenus transfuga Gravenhorst, 1829; Stilpnus gagates (Gravenhorst, 1807); and Trychosis priesneri Rossem, 1971. Mirabilithrombium turcicum sp. nov. is described based on both active postlarval forms and larvae. Larvae of Mirabilithrombium Gabrys, 1999 were obtained by experimental rearing from a field-collected female and are described for the first time. This is the third species described in the genus; a key to the active postlarval forms is provided. Data on the habitat specificity for the species are provided.

Nest-site characteristics and nest-site selection in a forest population of common blackbird was investigated in an area of 200 ha in Eskişehir's Meşelik black pine forest during the spring of 2013. Within this framework, 36 nests were found in total: 31 of them were new and the rest (N = 5) were old. The nest-site characteristic parameters were measured in centimeters and nest tree species were recorded. The white-tailed eagle is a flagship species of wetland conservation throughout Europe; thus, general conservation efforts targeting this species can provide effective protection for most species occupying similar habitats. The species' breeding ecology is well known in northern and western Europe; however, the locally important Danube Delta population has scarcely been studied. Here, the eagles primarily select tall trees for nesting (mostly willow and white poplar), with most nests built above 15 m. Dudgeodes bharathidasani sp. nov. is described from the Western Ghats of South India. The nymphs of this species were found in the seepage areas of a stream, and they were associated with the nets constructed by trichopteran larvae (Hydropsychidae: Hydropsyche).

Pria zenobia Jelínek, 1997 from eastern Mediterranean areas is synonymized with Pria angustula Cooper, 1982, from South Africa (syn. nov.). Raptors can be parasitized by numerous helminth species due to their feeding behavior. When the parasite load is high, the bird's life can be affected. A total of 21 common buzzards, Buteo buteo, from different districts of Bursa, in Northwest Turkey, were examined for helminth infections. The results of the postmortem examination revealed that 15 of 21 buzzards (71.43%) harbored 1 or more helminth species. Seven species/genera of helminths were detected at the following prevalence rates: ascarid larvae (47.62%), Strigea falconis (38.09%), Neodiplostomum attenuatum (33.33%), Cladotaenia globifera (14.29%), Centrorhynchus amphibius (14.29%), Physaloptera alata (9.52%), and Synhimantus laticeps (4.76%). Three flat mite species-Brevipalpus cuneatus (Canestrini & Fanzago, 1876), Aegyptobia tragardhi Sayed, 1950, and Aegyptobia beglarovi Livschitz & Mitrofanov, 1967-were registered for the first time for the Georgian fauna, of which B. cuneatus and A. tragardhi are new records in the Caucasus. Consequently, in adding these new records, the total number of tenuipalpid mites in Georgia is increased to 31 species.

Allometry Of Head Size And Shape Dimorphism In The Grass Snake (Natrix Natrix L.), Bartosz Borczyk

This study was conducted to investigate allometry of head growth patterns in the grass snake (Natrix natrix (Linnaeus, 1758)). Although male and female grass snakes differ in relative head size, their head growth patterns follow similar trajectories. The sexual differences are roughly constant during ontogeny. Most head dimensions grow with negative allometry or isometry with respect to the snout?vent length except head width, which grows with positive allometry in both sexes.

Four Salticidae spider species, Euophrys sulphurea (L. Koch, 1867), Neon levis (Simon, 1871), Pellenes brevis (Simon, 1868), and Sibianor aurocinctus (Ohlert, 1865), are recorded for the first time from Turkey. Their morphology is briefly described and illustrated.

In this study, Olios sericeus (Kroneberg, 1875) is introduced as a new record to the fauna of the spiders of Iran. Photos and a drawing of the male specimen are presented and its zoogeographic distribution is discussed.

In this study, Ag-nucleolar organizing region (NOR) banding patterns of Myotis myotis and Miniopterus schreibersii were presented. The karyotype of Myotis myotis has a diploid number (2n) of 44, a fundamental number (NF) of 54, and an autosomal fundamental number (NFa) of 50. The 2n, NF, and NFa numbers of Miniopterus schreibersii were 46, 54, and 56, respectively. In Myotis myotis, a homomorphic NOR was localized in 1 of the medium-sized acrocentric pairs; however, NORs were located in 2 pairs on the secondary constriction of Miniopterus schreibersii.

One specimen of Chalcides ocellatus was found in the village of Görümlü, Silopi, Şırnak, southeastern Anatolia. It was examined in terms of morphometric, pholidotic, and coloration pattern characteristics. The distribution of Chalcides ocellatus was expanded to the eastern part of Turkey, an addition of around 235 km air distance, with this study.

The present work reports for the first time the occurrence of Alopecosa psammophila (Araneae: Lycosidae) in Romania. It was identified in the autumn of 2013 in 2 habitats located in northwestern Romania, at a Natura 2000 site. Both habitats are represented by open and dry sandy grasslands. Comparison of standard body measurements showed that males have longer legs than females, but the total body length of females is greater than that of males.

This study describes a new, simple, and economical method for isolation of symbiotic bacteria from entomopathogenic nematodes. Isolation of the symbiotic bacteria from entomopathogenic nematodes is useful for mass production of the nematodes. In addition to traditional isolation methods from infected insect larvae or infective juveniles, we show a new method of isolating symbiotic bacteria from either gravid females or females in the endotokia matricida stage, producing symbiont colonies after a very short period of surface sterilization.

????Carpet anemones of the genus Stichodactyla are characterized by having no calcium carbonate skeleton, being flattened with rather short tentacles, being exclusively tropical, and being hosts for clown fish species. Most of the species belonging to this genus, however, are often very similar morphologically; thus, identification by external features is rather difficult. In this study, we have described the morphology and phylogenetic affinities of a carpet anemone species collected from Chabahar Bay.
