In this study, the following biological characteristics of picarel (Spicara smaris, Linnaeus 1758) in the Eastern Black Sea Coast have been examined: sex and age distribution, growth in length and weight, growth rates, condition factor and spawning period. Eleven species from six families of lizards have been found in the Reşadiye (Datça)Peninsula between the years 1990-1993.In this survey the morphological characteristics such as pholodisis,color-pattern and body measurements and ratios have been investigated.Systematic positions the species of which we have a sufficient number of samples were more accurate in terms of morfhological characteristics. Reseaches On Parasitic Helminths Of Bufo Viridis Laurenti, 1768 (Anura; Amphibia), Hi̇kmet Sami̇ Yildirimhan

In this study, it has been investigated 119 night frog (58 males, 61 females) Bufo viridis Laurenti, 1768 collected from Bursa and Büyükdöllük Marsh place in Edirne between March 1993 and June 1995. During this study Polystoma viridis, Proteocephalus sp., Nematotaenia dispar (Included Plathelminthes), Rhabdias bufonis, Oswaldocruzia filiformis, Cosmocerca commutata, Cosmocercoides sp., Neoxsyomatium brevicautadum (Included Nemathelminthes), Acanthocephalus ranae (Included Acanthocephala) were found. This is the first study concerning the helminth fauna on the Bufo viridis distributed in Turkey. Also all the parasitic species found on the Bufo viridis have been recorded for the first time.

In this study, site selection for oviposition purposes, effects of' different climatic factors on egg raft production, fecundity, seasonal occurrence and abundance of Culex martinii in Sarıgerme region, Muğla were studies over a period of two seasons (from August 1991 to June 1993). Identification Of Turbot (Scophthalmus Maximus) Stock Along The Turkish Black Sea Coast, Dursun Avşar

This study was performed in order to assessment of the turbot (Scophthalmus maximus) Stock from Southeastern Black Sea during April-September 1990 and September-October 1991. From the length-age data for both sexes, the following population parameters were estimated: Length-Weight relationship, W=0.0085*L^{3.18}; v. Bertalanffy growth constants, L_?(mm) = 825.7, K(year^{-1})=0.17, t_o (year)=-0.93, W_?(g) = 10590.43; total mortality and its components, Z=0.48, M=0.30 and F=0.18. Standing biomass of the turbot between 0 and 100 m depth range in September-October 1991 was found to be 407.6 tonnes and also there was an under exploitation rate on this stock as a rate of E=0.37.

In this research, 672 pikeperch samples which were catched between September 1993-August 1994 from Eğirdir Lake were investigated. Average length, weight; rate of increase in length and weight, age-weight and length-weight relationships for each age group of pikeperch were estimated. Result of the growth at the population of pikeperch especially low growth rate was seen in the II. age group. The catching musn't given permission the pikeperch which under 36.06 cm length in Eğirdir lake for the future of pikeperch population.

A total of 278 Capoeta capoeta capoeta were caught in the Çıldır Lake-Ardahan from May to December 1991. The age composition of C.c.capoeta specimens were between I-IX years and VI years old dominated with a rate of 31.54%. In the population, the percentages were calculated as 38.95% for males and 61.65% for females. According to age groups I-IX, to average fork lengths were 1622.00mm; 225.17mm; 263.88mm; 301.91mm; 322.11mm; 350.83mm; 381.30mm; 408. 14mm and 426.00 mm; average weights were 167.00g; 173.83g; 355.75g; 428.76g; 497.02g; 610.68g; 746.04g; 917.09g and 1090.00 g respectively. A total of 179 Barbus lacerta were caught in the Çıldır Lake-Ardahan from May to December 1991. The age composition of B.plebejus specimens were between I-V years and II years old dominated with a rate of 47.49%. In the stock the percentages were calculated as 55.15% for males and 44.85% for females. In this study, biological characteristics i.e. sex and age distribution, growth (in length and weight), growth rates, and condition factor of sprat (Sprattus sprattus phalericus) from the Eastern Blak Sea coast have been examined. The percentage of females and males was 57.53 % and 42.47 % out of 372 specimens which ranged between age group I and IV. Age groups II and III were also predominant in the catch composition. In this research, sex and age compositions, age-length, age-weight, length-weight relations, condition factors were investigated on 674 chub (Leuciscus cephalus L., 1758) specimens caught from Lake Tödürge, Sivas between April and November 1994. The age composition of L. cephalus specimens were between I-VII years and sex percentages were calculated as 68.25 % for females and 31.75 % for males. In this study, the feeding biology is being examined on 80 Bufo viridis specimens (30 males, 50 females) which were all collected from 6 localities of the vicinity of İzmir. The changes in glycogen levels depending on starvation, feeding, aging and parasitisation in the mature female of Pimpla turionellae L. (Hymenoptera: Ichneumonidae), which is a biological control agent, have been observed. Glycogen level, which is a major energy source in insects, increased when the females of P.turionellae are fed with 30% honey, but it decreased depending on aging, starvation and parasitism. There was a positive relationship between the glycogen level of an insect and the number of its eggs laid within the host pupae.

In this study, effects of two hericides on pupa formation period, pupa period and number of adults in F_1, F_2 and F_3 generations of Drosophila melnogaster were investigated. 300 ppm concentraiton of 2-4-D applied on parent stock and F_1 generation has lengtened the pupa formation period and pupa period of D. melanogaster in F_1 generation, while it reduced the number of adults another effective concentration was 100 ppm which has shortened the pupa period in F_3 generation. Inhibitory effect of bendiocarb on serum and whole blood cholinesterase activities of rats was investigated in laboratory conditions, bendiocarb a carbamate insecticide, was applied dermally to the rats. The concentrations of insecticide (80% WP) were choosen in accordance with the spray dosages used for mosquito control and the LD_{50} dermal dosages for rats. In vitro inhibition of serum cholinesterase activity was determined by using technical bendiocarb in the same dermal dosages. In this study, changes in amino acid composition of egg, larvae and larvae tissue which was separated from yolk sac mass of African catfish (Clarias gariepinus Burchell, 1822) during yolk sac stage and starving larvae were investigated. In the yolk sac period, there was no change of each amino acid amounts (g/100 g dry matter) in larvae tissue in spite of conspicuous changes were determined in whole larvae amino acid amounts such as leucine, isoleucine, valine, alanine and serine. In this study ultrastructures of Balantidium elongatum and B.duodeni obtained from the digestive system of Rana ridibunda have been examined. In this study, gonad development of Chalcalburnus tarichi, an anadromus, endemic fish species of the Lake Van and its inlets was histologically investigated. During oogenesis, six different development phases were histologically identified: chromatin-nucleolus, perinuclear, cortical alveolar, vitellogenic, ripening and ovulation phases. The diameters of oocytes were determined between 31 to 957 µm until the ovulation phase. According to the investigated sepcimens, vitellogenic phase started onward October and first ovulation was taken place in May-June 36 months and older females. The purpose in planing this investigation was to contribute to the speciation problems in genus Spalax. For this, we examined the activities of Glucose-6-Phosphate Dehydrogenase (G-6-PD) and 6-Phosphogluconate Dehydrogenase (6-PGD) enzymes from the liver of Spalax samples taken from both sides of river Euphrates. The samples belonging to genus Spalax were separated into two populationsin the research area. The spesific activities of G-6-PD and 6-PGD enzymes were measured at 0.01 level of significance. The results were given in a table. The observed differences between the mean specific activities of te enzymes of the two populatons were discussed.

In the present study, the zooplanktonic fauna of the Kunduzlar and Çatören dam lakes (Kirka basin-Eskişehir) was investigated during August 1994-June 1995. Eight species of Rotifera, five species of Cladocera and two species of Copepoda were identified in both dam lakes. In addition, the mean zooplankton abundance (ind. m -3 ) and physical and chemical parameters of dam lakes were given.

Hibernation pattern and changes in the body weight of juvenile and adult dormice, Glis glis orientalis, kept in uncontrolled conditions were investigated. It was determined that G.g.orientalis entered hibernation on October 28 when its body weight was 180 g and the ambient temperature was below 18 ºC, which seems to be the critical temperature for entering hibernation. Although body weight has an important role in entering hibernation at the beginning of the hibernation season, dormice hibernated as the hibernation season progressed regardless of their body weight. Adult dormice arose from hibernation during the period of May 13 to June 6. …

In this study, seventeen specimens of Meriones tristrami from Kilis were compared with the specimens of Meriones tristrami bodenheimeri along with topotypes of Meriones tristrami lycaon close to those from Kilis. It was determined that the specimens from Kilis were distinguishable from M.t. lycaon by characters such as dorsal coloration, Tx100 / HB (ratio of tail length to head and body), zygomatic breadth, occipitonasal length, basal length, diastema length, occipital width, weight, baculum shape and fundamental number of chromosomes. Thus, the specimens of M. tristrami from Kilis were determined to be a new subspecies, Meriones tristrami kilisensis subps. n.

Recent records along with a synopsis of the known bats of Jordan are given. Twenty-four species of bats are reported from Jordan, including two additional records, Rhinolophus mehelyi and Asellia tridens. Five other bat species are suspected to occur.

In this preliminary study, nine Stone Martens were recorded from different localities in Turkey. Their morphological characteristics were found to be consistent with previously published papers. However, the throat patches of Turkish Stone Martens show variations with respect to shape. In addition, it was determined that the morphologic and biometric characteristics of Turkish samples were consistent with those of M. f. syriaca. According to the karyological findings, the diploid number of chromosomes and the fundamental number were 38 and 76, respectively.

Mugil so-iuyis a freshwater fish living in Amu Darya River Basin, Far East Asia. It was first introduced to the area around the Sea of Azov for fish farming but, then migrated to the Black Sea, and from there to the Sea of Marmara. The present study is the first report from the Aegean Sea. Morphometrical and meristic characteristics of the two specimens caught are described.

In this study, the growth properties of tench ( Tinca tincaL., 1758) in the Kesikköprü Dam Lake between April 1995 and March 1996 were studied. In the specimens examined, ages ranged from I-VI in both sexes. The population was 51.43% female and 48.57% male. The fork length and weight in ranged from 16.1 to 41.4 cm and from 85 to 1350 g, respectively, and in males from 15.8 to 40.3 cm and from 83 to 1127 g, respectively. On the basis of morphological characters such as the shape of the mouth, suborbital spines, lamina circularis subdorsal scales, pigmentation and fin ray formulas four new species ( kellei, fahireae, splendens and puncticulata) and one subspecies ( C. vardarensis kurui) of genus Cobitis from Turkey are described.

In this study, the early development of barbel ( Barbus barbus L.) larvae has been determined by measuring their wet weight, dry weight, whole body mineral content (Ca, Mg, Na and K), skeletal development and gill development. It has been observed that wet weight, whole body mineral contents, the number of lamellae per filament of gill and the number of calcified vertebrae of larvae during early development stage increased by age, whereas dry weight decreased.
