The Efficiency Of The Swedish Trappy In Catching Freshwater Crayfish Pacifastacus Leniusculus And Astacus Leptodactylus, Muzaffer Mustafa Harlioğlu

The efficiency of the Swedish trappy in catching Pacifastacus leniusculus and Astacus leptodactylus was studied. The results showed that the Swedish trappy was very effective at catching both P. leniusculus and A. leptodactylus.In the concrete tank study, 71.6% of the total crayfish in the A. leptodactylus tanks and 60% of the total crayfish in the P. leniusculus tanks had been caught with baited traps at the end of the experiment. Anadara corneais going to be one of the target species of the dredging fishery along the continental shelf of the Turkish Black Sea coast. Although it has not been exploited yet, studies on the distribution, growth and meat quality have been carried out. In this study, growth parameters were estimated after determining the cohorts by the "Bhattacharya" method. The Effect Of The Ecology Of Toads On The Distribution Of Helminths, Emilia V. Vashetko, Bakhodir H. Siddikov

This paper presents the results of studies on the helminth fauna of the green toad, Bufo viridis, in Uzbekistan. Twently helminth species were identified. The highest diversity of helminths was recorded in toads in the newly-built districts of Tashkent (1966-76). The helminth fauna of the toads inhabiting foothills was less common.

The erythrocyte sizes of some anurans from Turkey (Rana ridibunda, Bufo bufo, Bufo viridis, Pelobates syriacus, Bombina bombina, Hyla arborea) were established utilizing blood smears stained with Wright's stain. The largest erythrocytes were found in R. ridibunda, the widest in B. bombina and the smallest in P. syriacus.

The present study is on 2 Brachyura species, collected by a scuba diver during investigations on the decapod fauna of the Sinop Peninsula shores of the Western Black Sea region, Turkey, between June, 1995, and July, 1996. Liocarcinus depurator (Linnaeus, 1758) and Brachynotus sexdentatus (Risso, 1827), which was found in the study area, has not been reported previously from Turkish Black Sea coastal waters.

In this study, five specimens of Mustela nivalis collected from five localities in Turkey were examined based on karyological, morphological, bacular and some ecological aspects. The karyotype of M. nivalis has 2n=42, NFa=72 and FN=76. The baculum seems to be similar to that of specimens of M. nivalis dinniki from Erivan (Armenia).

After a review of the literature on the Tabanidae fauna of Turkey, it was found that 156 species and 12 subspecies have been reported. Twelve of the species are from the subfamily Pangoninae, 19 species and 2 subspecies are from the subfamiy Chrysopsinae and 125 species and 10 subspecies are from the subfamily Tabaninae.

A total of 179 (97 males, 82 females) Triturus vulgaris specimens collected during the breeding season from Western Anatolia (Efes, Ayvacık, Lapseki, Karacabey, Gemlik) and European Turkey (Bolayır) was examined. The morphological and the statistical evaluations showed that the Western Anatolian (except Efes) and the Thrace populations are similar. The West Anatolian populations, therefore, should be included in the nominate subspecies, T.v. vulgaris. The Efes specimens were found to be different from specimens of Ayvacik, Lapseki and Gemlik especially in terms of body measurements. The explanation of the taxonomic status of the Efes population will be possible with the material …

Karyological and morphological characteristics of a female Vormela peregusna captured from Gönen (Balıkesir) were examined. The diploid number of chromosomes (2n) 38, fundamental number (FN) 72, and the number of autosomal arms (NFa) 68. The X chromosome is medium-sized submetacentric. The morphological and karyological evaluations showed that Turkish peregusna is similar to Vormela peregusna syriacus from Syria.

The skull, teeth, phallus and bacula of Microtus guentheri specimens raised in the laboratory were investigated at different stages of postnatal development. The most of the cranial measurements attained those of adults on day 60. There were determined to be some morphological differences between the skulls of young and adult voles. The incisors and the molars began to erupt at 3 and 6 days, respectively. Effects Of A Snake Venom And Some Hypometabolic Agents On The Substandard Gas-Oxygen Metabolism In Mice, Sh. I. Allamuratov, R. N. Ahmerov, K. T. Almatov, I. K. Kazakov

A lethal dose of the snake Vipera lebetina venom decreases the standard gas-oxygen metabolism of mice approximately threefold while its nonlethal dose does so twofold. The same effects on the gas-oxygen metabolism of mice were noted for lethal and nonlethal doses of aminooxyacetate (blocker of aminotransferases), catacin (antihypoxant), halothane (anesthetic agent) and serotonin (hypometabolic agent). It is concluded that the organism's physiologically reversible substandard metabolic (or vital hypometabolic) limit induced by different intoxications is approximately two times as low, and the irreversible substandard metabolic (or lethal hypometabolic) limit is three times as low as the level of the standard metabolism.

The effects of supplementing soybean meal-based diets with methionine on the growth and carcass-whole body chemical composition of T. zillii were studied during a 62-day feeding trial. A control diet prepared for T. zillii was supplemented with five different levels of free methionine, 0.5%, 1%, 1.5%, 2% and 2.5% (the same amounts of ?-cellulose were removed). In this study, carried out in Lake Beyşehir, the selectivity of multifilament and monofilament gill nets used for pike perch fishing were investigated. Multifilament gill nets with 5 differenet mesh sizes and monofilament gill nets with 6 different mesh sizes were used during experimental fishing from October 1994 ve May 1996. According to the results, the common selection factor of multifilament gill nets was calculated to be 4.67 and 4.70 for monofilament gill nets.

The Feeding Features Of The Pike-Perch (Stizostedion Lucioperca) Population In Lake Beyşehir, İsmet Balik

The stomach contents of pike-perch (Stizostedion lucioperca) in Lake Beyşehir were investigated. The stomachs of 474 pike-perch were studied between March 1995 and February 1996. 76.6% of specimens had full and 23.4% had empty stomachs. The contents of the stomachs consisted of Gammarus sp. (77.5%), Mysis sp. (14.7%), Chirinomidae (4.3%), pike-perch (2.7%) and others (0.8%). Around 20.9% cannibalism was estimated and it was widespread among individuals with a length of 11-60 cm. In addition, it appears that pike-perch can consume fellow specimens with a mean size of 35.9% of its length.

In this study, the material collected from Köyceğiz Specially Protected Area, and islands in the vicinity of Marmaris were divided into four different populations and examined comperatively from the view point of taxonomic characters. The populations inhabiting the western and eastern sides of the Köyceğiz Canal are distinctly different from each other regarding their supratemporal stripe characteristics.

A Study On Spiders (Araneae) In Grass Tussocks In Van Vicinity, Abdullah Bayram, M. İsmai̇l Varol

In April, July and December I994, grass tussocks were collected from a delta located between cereal fıelds, and spiders were investigated. A total of 2257 spiders, 1314 insects, and 693 other invertebrates were extracted from 45 tussocks belong to Juncus inflexus, Agrostis stolonifera, Puccinella distans and Alopecurus arundinaceus. Among the spiders most encountered families were wolf spiders (Lycosidae, % 52.6) and money spiders (Linyphiidae, % 22.5). Juncus inflexus tussocks sheltered most spiders individually. Morphological characrteristics, range, distribution and subspecific states of the species are given. In this research, , A total of 64 MM and 37 VV adult specimens from Turkish Thrace and 158 MM and 188 VV adult specimens from Anatolia were investigated comparatively as two separate populations groups to determine the subspecific status of the species in Turkey. No significant differences are discernible between the two population groups from the viewpoints of pholidosis, morphometrical measurements and rations and pattern and coloration characteıistics. So the Turkish L. viridis populations belong to a single subspecies L. v. meridionalis.

In this study, the species of Cladocera and Copepoda in the Mert, Erikli, Hamam and Pedina lakes located in the region of İğneada/ Kırklareli were determined during the period of April 1993-May 1994. Results show that the study area is represented with a total of 32 Cladocera and 19 Copepoda species. Of these, Ceriodaphnia megops (Cladocera) is a new record for Turkey.

In this investigation, the blood cell counts (erythrocyts and leucocyts) of 136 Chalcides ocellatus specimens (75 females + 61 males), collected from different locations in Anatolia have been investigated from the view point of the effects of geographical distance and altitude factors. The blood cell counts are found to be highest in the population from Gaziantep-Urfa and the cause of this difference is evaluated as due to geographic variation.

The aims of this study was determine the morphology of genital organs and maximum oviposition of capacity of a female of Cicadatra persica, which is distributed in Central Anatolia region is harmfull for plants. Therefore, 15 adult male and 15 adult female samples were investigated. The morphology of internal and external genital structures were identified and presented as illustrations. In a female, X 417±7 ovariols, in each ovariol X =3,4±0,1 oocyst were counted and the maximum egg number which was laid by a single female was found as X =1417±24.

Sixtyfour species of Tabanidae (Diptera) were determinated in Trakya region of Turkey by this study. Eight of these, Chrysops relictus Meig., Dasyramphis anthracinus (Meig.), Atylotus latistriatus (Brauer), A. venturii Leclercq, Hybomitra bimaculata (Macq.), H. pilosa (Loew), Tabanus maculicornis Zetterstedt, Haematopota gallica Szi., are new records for Tabanidae fauna of Turkey. 33 out of 64 species were recorded by their distribution patterns in Trakya region for the first time. The number of Tabanidae species in Trakya region reached to 74 with this study and the previous records.

Birds of Karapınar -Konya have been studied between 1994 and 1995. In which months these species are seen have been determined. 151 species determined belong to 16 orders and 46 families. A different geological and geographical region of Turkey have been shown to inhabit a very rich avifauna. Thus, this study aims to introduce this region, which will contribute to the conservation of the region from various respects( erosion, hunting etc.).

The present study was undertaken to determine the fauna of Geometridae in Turkish Thrace. Samples were collected from 81 different localities between 19911993. Results show that Geometridae is represented with a total of 115 species belonging to 67 genus of 5 subfamilies as follows : Archiearinae; 1 genus and 1 species, Geometrinae; 4 genus and 4 species, Scopulinae; 7 genus and 41 species, Larentiinae; 22 genus and 31 species, Ennominae; 33 genus and 38 species.
