This study was carried out between 2011 and 2014 to detect chewing louse species found on birds in Turkey. For this purpose, 246 birds were examined for lice. Thirty-three birds (13.4%) were found to be infested by 25 louse species; 17 Ischnoceran species belonging to 15 genera and 8 Amblyceran species belonging to 5 genera were recorded in this study. In this study, usually 1 or 2 louse species were detected on a single bird, and in only 2 cases, 3 louse species were found on the same bird. A survey was conducted from 2012 to 2013 in order to study the Alysiinae (Hymenoptera: Braconidae) species of the southeastern part of Iran. A total of 11 species belonging to 5 genera have been listed, of which 4 species, Dinotrema contracticorne (Fischer 1974), Synaldis ultima Fischer 1970, Chorebus parvungula (Thomson 1895), and Dacnusa abdita (Haliday 1839), are reported for the first time from Iran. In addition, the male of Chorebus longiarticulis Fischer, Lashkari Bod, Rakhshani and Talebi 2011 is recorded for the first time and described.

Spider Assemblages And Dynamics On A Seasonal Island In The Pripyat River, Belarus, Izabela Hajdamowicz, Lucyna Pilacka, Wlodzimierz Meissner

Spider assemblages on a seasonal river meadow island were studied in spring 2006 and 2007. Samples were collected with a set of 20-30 pitfall traps once every 5 days. Altogether, 1179 spiders belonging to 30 species were collected. There were 5 constant dominant species: medium-sized wandering Pardosa prativaga, and small-sized air colonizers Oedothorax retusus, Erigone dentipalpis, Oedothorax fuscus, and Pachygnatha degeeri. The relatively low species diversity was higher in 2007 and grew throughout the season with the lowering of the water level. The total turnover of species involved the least abundant species (below 1% of the total), mainly Linyphiidae. Abundance …

This survey was carried out on the genus Macrocheles in Kelkit Valley, Turkey, during 2007-2012. Seven species, M. Muscaedomesticae (Scopoli, 1772); M. Glaber (Müller, 1860); M. Perglaber Filipponi and Pegazzano, 1962; M. Scutatus (Berlese, 1904); M. Merdarius (Berlese, 1889); M. Subbadius (Berlese, 1904); and M. Robustulus (Berlese, 1904), were recorded from the valley. M. Perglaber, M. Scutatus, and M. Subbadius are first records for the Turkish fauna. Original drawings and diagnoses for all known species of the genus from the valley are included. In addition, an identification key to the Turkish species of Macrocheles is provided here.

The locality of Hayranlı-Sivas is situated in the central Anatolian plateau (Sivas, Turkey) and includes many fossil remains, including carnivores collected from 2 different spots. The aim of this study is to contribute to knowledge of carnivore evolution in Turkey based on the fossil specimens in Hayranlı-Sivas. The studied collection indicates the presence of the following taxa: Hyaenictitherium wongii, Hyaenictitherium intuberculatum, Lycyaena dubia, and Machairodus giganteus. L. Dubia is the first record from Anatolia. The material of each taxon was described and determined by comparison with other materials from various Eurasian localities. The distribution of crustaceans in 3 transects (İskenderun, Mersin, and Anamur bays, including depths of 10, 25, 50, 75, 100, and 200 m) located within Turkish coastal borders of the Cilician shelf was studied between 2005 and 2007 to show the association with habitat types, eutrophication level, and depth-dependent environmental parameters in representative months of each season (winter, spring, summer, and autumn). Diet Of Barn Owl Tyto Alba In Central South Bulgaria As Influenced By Landscape Structure, Boyan Milchev

This study of the diet of Barn Owl Tyto alba analyzed pellets containing 18,810 prey specimens. Small mammals (98.2% by number, 97.5% by biomass) dominated, while birds, reptiles, amphibians, and insects constituted a negligible portion of the diet (1.8% by number, 2.5% by biomass). Voles (Microtus spp.) were the most numerous prey (35.3 ± 14.4%, range 14.6%-67.1%) in 9 localities (69.2%, n = 13 individually studied localities) and dominated the biomass in all diets (51.4 ± 14.1%, range 27.4%-78.2%). The main objective of this study was to analyze the differences and similarities in morphometric characteristics among specimens of greater pipefish Syngnathus acus Linnaeus, 1758 that were collected and described based on data from bottom-trawl surveys and commercial trawl fisheries in the western Black Sea between September 2010 and October 2011. A total of 280 specimens were analyzed, of which 191 were female and 89 were male. The variations of environmental conditions (T °C, pH, Δ13C, Δ18O, Mg/Ca, and Sr/Ca) for two ostracod species (Psychrodromus olivaceus, Potamocypris similis) were analyzed and compared to identify the controls of environmental parameters on the chemical and isotopic composition of their valves. The specimens were collected from Karapınar Spring (Bolu, Turkey) between October 2009 and November 2010. The species were observed throughout the year. Psychrodromus olivaceus showed relatively constant Mg/Ca ratios during the study period, whereas those of P. Similis showed more variability. The ratio was also significantly different (P < 0.05) between the two species. We did not find significant correlation between water temperature and either of the species' Mg/Ca ratios. The stable isotope record for P. Similis was very patchy, showing a small range of values consistent with the groundwater source, similar to the behavior of Sr/Ca. The Sr/Ca ratio displayed little variation throughout the year, suggesting hydrochemical stability over time, most likely in response to the groundwater source. The stable isotope data displayed pronounced variability for P. Similis but little for P. Olivaceus, suggesting that the former may be responding to seasonality, whereas the latter responds to groundwater.

Morphological features of Prozercon bulbiferus Ujvari, 2011 and Prozercon graecus Ujvari, 2011, which are new records for the Turkish fauna, are given with drawings. Deutonymph members of P. Bulbiferus are described and illustrated for the first time. Information about habitat and distribution for each species is also provided. Additionally, a key to species of the genus Prozercon known from Turkey is given. Both species are found in the Thrace region of Turkey.

In this study, we investigated the fauna of Zygentoma in different regions of Kermanshah Province (Kermanshah, Iran) during 2013. Among the different specimens collected, the species Neoasterolepisma priesneri (Stach, 1946) was found, being new for Iran and for Asia. Moreover, the capture of a representative of the genus Trinemophora (Schaeffer, 1897) represents the first citation of the family Protrinemuridae in Iran.

Investigations into small mammals within the territory of a breeding colony of great cormorants (Phalacrocorax carbo sinensis), carried out in 2011-2014 near Juodkrant? In autumn 2011 and spring 2012, the diet of pike (n = 112) captured in a backwater in eastern Hungary was examined. Eight species of prey-fish were found in the stomachs of 31 of the 112 pike individuals, and 71.9% of the prey-fish in the stomachs of 16 of the 31 pike individuals were European weather loach, Misgurnus fossilis. This first recording of European weather loach in the diet of pike is a valuable finding, because it provides new information on an endangered species categorized as vulnerable in the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species. This study was conducted to contribute to the Turkish oak gall wasp fauna (Hymenoptera: Cynipidae). Oak cynipid galls were collected between 2011 and 2013 from different regions of Turkey; we found that Andricus assarehi, A. Coriariformis, A. Csokai, A. Glandulae, Andricus legitimus, A. Paradoxus, A. Sadeghii, A. Serotinus, A. Stellatus, A. Trotteri, Cynips longiventris, and Trigonaspis megaptera were new to the Turkish Cynipidae fauna. A new distribution range is also provided for the previously recorded gall wasp species Andricus pseudoaries.

Podothrips erami Minaei sp. Nov. İs described and illustrated from Fars Province in southern Iran. This is the first record of the genus from Iran. The new species is bicolored and conforms with P. Denticeps Hood and P. Distinctus Ananthakrishnan in bearing a lateral forward-directed tooth behind the compound eyes.

The lacertid lizard Podarcis tauricus tauricus is recorded from Yörükköy, Düzce Province, in the western Black Sea region. With the record of the present study, the known distribution area of the subspecies has been extended about 90 km eastward. The pholidolial and morphometric characters and color-pattern features of the specimens were compared with specimens from a known Turkish locality with regard to the literature. We observed that the specimens of the Yörükköy population were similar to P. T. Tauricus specimens reported in the literature.

To explore whether the reproductive cycle of Lepus europaeus differs within Turkey, a total of 182 hares from Turkish Thrace (transition climate), Central Anatolia (continental climate), the Black Sea (oceanic climate), and the Turkish Mediterranean (Mediterranean climate) were collected between June 2006 and September 2014. We present the length of breeding season, sex ratio, mean litter size, and testicle position of European hares distributed in Turkey for the first time. Among these features, length of breeding season and mean litter size of European hares showed moderate variation in Turkey.

Length-weight relationships (LWRs) of 49 fish species belonging to 18 families from the shallow waters (0-20 m) of Gökçeada Island were reported. Fish specimens were sampled monthly with a beach seine (0-2 m) and beam trawl (5-20 m) between June 2013 and June 2014. The b values estimates varied between 2.66 and 3.59. Five of the 49 species (Arnoglossus kessleri, Scorpaena maderensis, Symphodus ocellatus, Symphodus rostratus, and Gobius geniporus) presented maximum length values that exceeded their maximum lengths listed in FishBase.

Facultative paedomorphism is regularly observed in salamanders, including newts of the Lissotriton vulgaris group. We document the first record of paedomorphism in L. (v.) kosswigi from a locality near Karasu, in the vicinity of Sakarya, Turkey. We compare measurements of 5 paedomorphic individuals with those of 10 metamorphic individuals from the same population and with measurements taken from the literature. Paedomorphs are on average bigger than metamorphs; intriguingly, the opposite pattern has been observed in the Turkish L. (v.) schmidtlerorum.

In this study, we report 2 new close localities for Eumeces schneideri from Aydın, western Anatolia, Turkey. The specimens were examined morphologically and compared with the relevant literature. These new localities have filled in the gap in the species' distribution range in western Anatolia, Turkey. According to the morphological results, the female specimens resembled E. S. Barani in terms of the scales along the dorsal midline. However, the color-pattern characteristics of the specimens were found to be somewhere between E. S. Barani and E. S. Princeps; thus, the specimens were accepted as E. S. Cf. Barani.

The census of shallow-water sponges from the northern Aegean and Marmara sea coasts resulted in the collection of 10 species of Demospongiae. A new Hymedesmia species, Hymedesmia (Hymedesmia) anatoliensis sp. Nov., is described from the western coast of Turkey. Three further species of demosponges, Axinyssa aurantiaca (Schmidt, 1864), Halichondria (Halichondria) contorta (Sarà, 1961), and Dictyonella incisa (Schmidt, 1880), are new to the sponge fauna of Turkey.

Contributions To The Linyphiidae Fauna Of Turkey (Arachnida: Araneae), Tuncay Türkeş, Hayri̇ye Karabulut, Hakan Demi̇r, Osman Seyyar

Abacoproeces topcui sp. Nov. (Araneae: Linyphiidae) is described based on male specimens from Mersin Province in Turkey. Four species, namely Araeoncus tauricus Gnelitsa, 2005; Erigonoplus globipes (L. Koch, 1872); Megalepthyphantes pseudocollinus Saaristo, 1997; and Styloctetor romanus (O. P.-Cambridge, 1872), belonging to this family are new records for the spider fauna of Turkey. Styloctetor Simon, 1884 has been recorded as a new genus for Turkey. Data on collected localities, distribution throughout the world, and genitalia figures of each species are presented.

Reedbeds can be characterized as forming a transition between the aquatic and terrestrial ecosystems. They have distinctive animals adapted to living in aqueous conditions. Because of the lack of data on the mite fauna in marsh habitats of Turkey, this faunistic study was conducted in the Ekşisu Marshes, which resulted in collecting and determining 58 species and 36 genera belonging to 29 families. Of these, Stigmaeus sphagneti (Hull), Neothrombium neglectum (Bruyant), Podothrombium macrocarpum Berlese, Johnstoniana eximia (Berlese), Calyptostomata velutinus (Müller), Heminothrus humicola (Forsslund), Astegistes pilosus (Koch), Achipteria coleoptrata (Linnaeus), and Lauritzenia elegans (Kunst) are new records for the Turkish fauna. …

A New Tetranychus Dufour (Acari: Tetranychidae) Associated With Solanaceae From Turkey, Sultan Çobanoğlu, Edward Albert Ueckermann, Nabi̇ Alper Kumral

A new plant-feeding mite species, Tetranychus solanacearum Çobanoğlu and Ueckermann sp. Nov. (Acari: Tetranychidae), is described and illustrated. The samples were collected from various solanaceous plants (Solanaceae) [black nightshade (Solanum nigrum L.), bittersweet nightshade (Solanum dulcamara L.), eggplant (Solanum melongena L.), spiny nightshade (Solanum rostratum Dunal), jimsonweed or datura (Datura stramonium L.), and tomato (Lycopersicon esculentum L.)] in Ankara Province, Turkey. A key to all species of the genus Tetranychus Dufour known to occur in Turkey is presented in the paper.

In this study, 3801 Ephemeroptera specimens were collected and identified from the Gediz River basin (Kütahya, Manisa, Uşak, and İzmir provinces) during 2011-2012. Twenty-three taxa belonging to 14 genera from 5 families were determined. All identified species from Uşak, Manisa, and İzmir and the 4 identified species from Kütahya are new records for the mentioned provinces. Moreover, Labiobaetis atrebatinus Eaton, 1870 is a new record for the Turkish Ephemeroptera fauna. As a result of this study, the number of the identified Ephemeroptera species from Turkey has increased to 147.

Interstitial and phytal harpacticoid fauna of the mediolittoral zone of the Dilek Peninsula within the border of Aydın Province in Turkey was investigated. Harpacticoid copepods were collected from 7 different localities between 2012 and 2013. As a result, a total of 78 species and subspecies belonging to 48 genera in 18 families were determined. In terms of species richness, the family Miraciidae ranked first with 17 species, followed by Ameiridae with 12 species; Laophontidae with 11 species; Ectinosomatidae with 6 species; Dactylopusiidae, Harpacticidae, Paramesochridae, and Tisbidae with 4 species each; Arenopontiidae and Thalestridae with 3 species each; Peltidiidae and Tetragonicipitidae …

Contribution To The Knowledge Of The Cydnidae(Hemiptera, Heteroptera, Pentatomoidea) Fauna Of Turkey, Gülten Yazici, Yunus Avar, Erol Yildirim

This study is based upon material of the family Cydnidae collected from different localities in Turkey between 1980 and 2012. A total of 13 species of 7 genera belonging to 2 subfamilies, Cydninae and Sehrinae, of the family Cydnidae were recorded from Turkey. Among them, Cydnus aterrimus (Forster, 1771), Macroscytus brunneus (Fabricius, 1803), Canthophorus dubius (Scopoli, 1763), and Tritomegas sexmaculatus (Rambur, 1839) have been found to be the most abundant and widespread species. Separately, Legnotus picipes (Fallén, 1807) is a new record for the Turkish fauna. In addition, new localities are added for some species previously reported for Turkey.
