Nighttime Or Daytime? How Milk Melatonin Levels Relate To Differential And Somatic Cell Count In Dairy Cow Milk, Eleonora Dall'olio, Claudio Cipolat-Gotet, Melania Andrani, Valeria Cavalli, Giovanni Ferri, Mario Baratta, Roberta Saleri, Fabio De Rensis
The Thai Journal of Veterinary Medicine
This study investigates the impact of winter nighttime versus daytime milking on melatonin concentration in milk and explores its relationship with somatic cell count (SCC) and differential somatic cell count (DSCC). Milk samples were collected from 40 Holstein cows at 12-hour intervals (04:00 AM Night samples and 04:00 PM Day samples) during the winter season (11 h of light and 13 h of darkness). The relationship between melatonin content, SCC and DSCC was assessed. Night milk had significantly higher melatonin levels (15.63 ± 1.90 pg/mL) compared to day milk (6.80 ± 0.75 pg/mL). SCC was significantly lower in night milk …
Climate And Non-Genetic Effects On Goat Milk Quality And Casein Prediction Using Machine Learning, Ibrahima Mahamane Abdourhamane, Dilek Arsoy
Climate And Non-Genetic Effects On Goat Milk Quality And Casein Prediction Using Machine Learning, Ibrahima Mahamane Abdourhamane, Dilek Arsoy
The Thai Journal of Veterinary Medicine
Milk quality is becoming more and more crucial for farmers with the increasing use of component-based pricing systems in the sector. This study aimed to investigate the effects of climate-related and non-genetic factors on goat milk quality on the island of Northern Cyprus and to predict casein content using machine learning techniques. An analysis was performed on 21,695 goat milk samples collected between 2012 and 2018. Somatic cell count (SCC), standard plate count (SPC), and key milk components such as protein, casein, lactose, and fat were evaluated for different seasons, regions, farm sizes, and raw milk types. Five machine learning …
Milk Yield Performance Of Local Cows, Handling Practices, Physicochemical Properties, And Milk Production Constraints In Kucha District, Southern Ethiopia, Demissie Jorge, Seifu Birhanu, Yilkal Tadele
Milk Yield Performance Of Local Cows, Handling Practices, Physicochemical Properties, And Milk Production Constraints In Kucha District, Southern Ethiopia, Demissie Jorge, Seifu Birhanu, Yilkal Tadele
The Thai Journal of Veterinary Medicine
The study assessed milk production performance of local cows, milk handling practices, physicochemical properties, and milk production constraints in Kucha District, Southern Ethiopia. A purposive and random sampling technique was employed to select 138 respondents for the interview. For physicochemical property assessment, milk samples were collected from 90 interviewed households. Majorities (76.7%) of the respondents were males, and the average family size was 6.82±0.25. Mean daily milk yield (DMY) of 1.80±0.07, 1.94±0.06, and 1.52±0.09 liters was recorded for local cows, respectively, in early, mid, and late lactation stages. All respondents in the area use hand milking and wash their hands …
Restricted Feeding Of Goats During The Last Third Of Gestation And Trans-Generational Effects On Plasma Progesterone In Their Female Offspring, Andrew A. Ponter, Bérengère Laporte, Sabine Roussel, Winai Kaewlamun, Pascale Chavatte-Palmer, Christine Duvaux-Ponter

Feeding levels can vary in goat farms for several reasons. Underfeeding of gestating dairy goats can occur and may influence fetal follicle development and future reproductive performance in their offspring. The objective of this experiment was to study the effect of restricted feeding during the last third of gestation on some reproductive parameters in female offspring (F1). Two feeding groups were formed using 60 Alpine and Saanen dairy goats to produce the F1 female offspring. The control group (C, n = 30) was fed to requirements. The restricted group (R, n = 30) was given the same diet, but the …
Risk Factors Of Bovine Clinical Mastitis And Antimicrobial Resistance Of Mastitis-Causing Escherichia Coli In Shandong, China, Liu Peng, Dongfang Hu, Jinjiao Zuo, Caihong Wu, Hui Lu, Zilong Cheng, Mengda Liu
Risk Factors Of Bovine Clinical Mastitis And Antimicrobial Resistance Of Mastitis-Causing Escherichia Coli In Shandong, China, Liu Peng, Dongfang Hu, Jinjiao Zuo, Caihong Wu, Hui Lu, Zilong Cheng, Mengda Liu
The Thai Journal of Veterinary Medicine
The culling of dairy cattle is closely related to the economic benefits of the farm. Many reasons can lead to the culling of cows. Among these, mastitis is the main reason for the serious economic loss of the dairy industry, and also the harm to global public health. However, little is known about cow culling situations, antimicrobial resistance, and virulence factors of mastitis-causing Escherichia coli in Shandong, China. A cross-sectional study was conducted in 16 randomly selected dairy herds to identify the reasons for cow culling, to assess the risk factors, and to isolate the major etiological agent of clinical …
The Benefits Of Dexmedetomidine For Pain Mitigation After Cautery Disbudding In Calves, Tsung-Ching Liu, Chen-Fei Chiang, Thomas Chia-Tang Ho, Jacky Peng-Wen Chan
The Benefits Of Dexmedetomidine For Pain Mitigation After Cautery Disbudding In Calves, Tsung-Ching Liu, Chen-Fei Chiang, Thomas Chia-Tang Ho, Jacky Peng-Wen Chan
The Thai Journal of Veterinary Medicine
The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of dexmedetomidine (DEX) alone on pain mitigation following cautery disbudding in calves. A total of 21 calves were randomly divided into three groups: sham-disbudded control with placebo (S, n = 8); hot-iron disbudded after placebo (D, n = 6); hot-iron disbudded after 0.01 mg/kg of DEX (DeD, n = 7). The pain-related responses measured included serum cortisol levels, struggling scores, pain-related behaviors and other physiological values. The results indicated that the struggling scores, the cortisol concentrations from +10 to +60 min after disbudding and the area under curve of cortisol …
