Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences

The aim of this study was to evaluate milk glutathione peroxidase (GPx) and superoxide dismutase (SOD) levels in Damascus goats with subclinical mastitis. According to the somatic cell counts (SCCs), 193 Damascus goats included in the study were divided into healthy (n = 75; SCC 0.05). In summary, a significant increase in GPx and decrease in SOD levels, respectively, were determined in goat milk samples with subclinical mastitis, and these changing trends were correlated with milk SCCs. However, age, parity, and number of offspring were not associated with these changing patterns.

This study was designed to evaluate serum and electrocardiographic (ECG) changes in cattle with foot-and-mouth disease (FMD). Thirty-two cows with clinical signs of FMD and 13 healthy cows were randomly enrolled. After blood sampling, ECG was performed on 23 of the 32 ill cows. Serum circulatory troponin I (cTnI), CPK, LDH, and CK-MB activities were determined in the patient and control groups. Arrhythmias including ventricular tachycardia (VT), sinus tachycardia (ST), atrial fibrillation (AF), and premature ventricular complex (PVC) were seen in 4, 4, 2, and 1 of the patients, respectively. A 5-year-old Swedish Red cow, pregnant for 465 days according to the last insemination record, was presented in this case. She conceived by artificial insemination at spontaneous estrus using frozen-thawed sperm of Swedish Red sire. No abnormalities were detected during gestation and no clinical signs of parturition at the expected time of delivery were noted. She was reexamined several times to eliminate breeding records error and, once prolonged gestation was confirmed, parturition was induced. The calf survived birth but died 10 min after birth. This study was carried out to assess the effect of the incorporation of detoxified argan press cake on milk yield, physicochemical composition, and microbial quality of raw Alpine goat milk produced in the Meskala-Essaouira region of southwestern Morocco. The detoxification method, adopted for the removal of saponin present in the argan press cake, succeeded in reducing these antinutrients from 4.56 to 0.4 mg/g, allowing it to be used as livestock feed. Loading of feedstuffs in planned amounts in total mixed ration (TMR) recipes are very important in terms of profitability, productivity, animal health, and performance. In the scope of this study, the planned and loaded feedstuffs amounts were determined in the mixer wagons. The study was conducted on a dairy cattle farm with ~1500 milking cow capacity. The aim of this study was to investigate nonesterified fatty acid (NEFA), beta-hydroxy butyric acid (BHBA), and milk urea nitrogen (MUN) profiles for dairy cows fed with rumen-protected choline (RPC) during the transition period. A total of 30 dairy cows were allocated to one control and two experimental groups (10 animals per group) and were fed from 3 weeks before calving to 21 days in milk. The aim of this study was to evaluate the serological diagnostic potential of the Brucella recombinant outer membrane (rOMP25, rOMP31) and periplasmic proteins (rBP26, rSOD) in a comparative way using an indirect enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (i-ELISA). Rabbit and/or mouse antibodies to Brucella whole cell and/or soluble protein preparations recognized all recombinant proteins used, which confirms the expression of target antigens in E. coli in active form. The aim of this study was to analyze the biological components of eggs as well as lysozyme activity in relation to the age of hens. The research material consisted of eggs from parent stock of Ross 308 meat chickens. The aim of this study was to produce biosurfactants from whey waste using Streptococcus thermophilus, Lactobacillus acidophilus, and Lactobacillus rhamnosus as well as to determine oil spreading, emulsification index, surface tension, and antiadhesive properties in these biosurfactants. Seventy-nine multiparous Holstein cows from a private dairy farm were used in the study. The present study was planned to isolate Escherichia coli from pneumonic and septicemic sheep and goats and to determine antimicrobial resistance (AMR) patterns of the isolates and evaluate them for the presence of extended-spectrum ß-lactamase (ESBL) using the phenotypic and molecular methods. Neospora caninum is a major, cosmopolitan, protozoan parasite associated with abortion in cattle and water buffaloes. In this study, real-time PCR was used for the detection and quantification of the burden of N. caninum infections in aborted fetuses in the Middle Black Sea Region and Sivas Province of Turkey. In total, N. caninum DNA was detected in 44 of the 89 (49.4%) aborted fetuses of the cattle and water buffalo from 89 different farms. This paper presents the zooarchaeological observations on animal remains of Alaybeyi Höyük unearthed from 2016 and 2017 excavation sessions. Dated to 4721-4553 cal. BC, Alaybeyi stands so far as the oldest archaeological settlement discovered in northeast Anatolia. Therefore, the faunal assemblage at Alaybeyi offers great opportunity to study the status of animals and their relationships with humans in the largely unexplored Kars-Erzurum plateau covering a period from the Chalcolithic to Late Iron Age. Thirty-five Anatolian water buffalo were selected from among a total of almost 7000 animals from 11 herds in the Kızılırmak Delta, which is known to be one of the most important areas for water buffalo farming in Turkey. The cleaved amplified polymorphic sequences (CAPS) method was used to identify single-nucleotide polymorphisms at 3 loci that are associated with milk production, namely PRL, CSN3, and PIT-1, which are associated with milk processing and milk yields, respectively. Experiments were carried out to determine the effect of 2-phenoxyethanol to reduce stress response during the transportation of Russian and Siberian sturgeons. In transportation experiment 1 (TE$_{1}$), Siberian sturgeons (687.2 ± 17.41 g) were stocked in tanks and transported for 90 min (stocking density = 65 ± 0.71 kg/$m^{3}$).
