Optical density image (ODI) analysis, based on the intensity of pixels in digital images, is commonly used in orthopedic medicine. This study was conducted to quantify endometrial and luteal changes in early pregnant and cyclic cows by ODI analysis. Twenty healthy primiparous Simmental cows on days 80?120 postpartum were subjected to ultrasonography and ODI analysis on the days of estrus (day 0) and metestrus (day 4) as well as 12, 15, 18, and 21 days after insemination. A study was conducted to evaluate the use of exogenous enzymes as a potential means of improving the cell wall degradation of rice straw. The enzymes used for in vitro incubations were characterized for cellulase (CE) and xylanase (XY). Enzymes were supplemented alone (CE or XY) and as a mixture (CE + XY) in a 1:1 ratio. The aim of this study was to determine the prevalence and clonal typing of extended-spectrum beta-lactamase (ESBL)-producing Escherichia coli in healthy broilers in Turkey. Three hundred broiler cloacal samples were collected from various broiler slaughterhouses and inoculated on Levine agar plates supplemented with 2 μg/mL cefotaxime. Suspected strains were identified using a BBL Crystal Enteric/Nonfermenter ID Kit (Becton Dickinson, USA) and ESBL production was confirmed using an ESBL phenotypic confirmatory test. The current study describes the use of interleukin-1 receptor antagonist protein (IL-1Ra) as a possible strategy for optimizing tendon healing and repair by presenting histologically visible changes in rabbit Achilles tendon tissue after longitudinal tenotomy. The study was carried out on 26 Californian rabbits divided into two equal groups. A number of mammals have been cloned, including cats and dogs. The purpose of this report was to study the bone fracture and bone fracture healing of three cloned dogs. The three cloned dogs, aged 3 months to 6 months, received separate surgeries. Clinical and radiological examination of each of the three cloned dogs revealed the fracture of a femur, a tibial tuberosity, and a humerus, respectively. Each dog had undergone surgical reduction and stabilization of their individual bone fracture with an intramedullary pin, a screw, and/or a wire. The role of the renin-angiotensin aldosterone system in the genesis of hypertension between nonhunting dogs and hunting dogs of various breeds was comparatively studied in the city of Tuzla (Bosnia and Herzegovina). Sixty dogs were divided into four subgroups based on different age categories. Hypertension was recorded in 21 dogs or in 35% of examined dogs. Fourteen dogs had mild (23.3%), 5 dogs had moderate (8.3%), and 2 dogs had severe hypertension (3.3%). The most cases of hypertension (n = 9) were recorded in hunting dogs aged from 9 to 12 years. Primary goat synovial cells were developed to be cocultivated with caprine arthritis encephalitis virus (CAEV)-infected monocytes. Two CAEV-seropositive goats and one CAEV-seronegative goat were confirmed for viral particles in the blood using the PCR method. Thereafter, heparinized blood samples from the three goats were collected and isolated for monocytes, which were further cultivated to differentiate into macrophages. Influence Of Supplementing Diet With Microalgae (Schizochytrium Limacinum)On Growth And Metabolism In Lambs During The Summer, Eki̇n Sucu, Duygu Udum, Nazmi̇ye Güneş, Önder Canbolat, İsmai̇l Fi̇lya

The current experiment was conducted to examine the impact of a supplement of microalgae (Schizochytrium limacinum) on the performance, rumen fermentation, and blood metabolites in lambs during summer. Forty lambs were used in a 49-day experiment. The lambs were group-fed either a basal diet (alfalfa hay and concentrate, n = 20) or the basal diet along with 5 g/day microalgae (n = 20). Feed intakes were recorded daily and body weight (BW) was measured weekly. Overall, microalgae feeding increased (P < 0.05) the BW and average daily gain. There were no significant differences for average feed intake or feed efficiency (P > 0.05). Microalgae feeding decreased rumen pH (P < 0.05) and tended to reduce proportion of acetate (P < 0.1), while it increased total rumen volatile fatty acid concentration (8.6%; P < 0.01) and proportions of propionate (13.9%, P < 0.01) and valerate (P < 0.01; 26.5%) compared with the control animals. Microalgae feeding increased (P < 0.05) blood glucose (98.47 vs. 84.97 mg/dL) and insulin (64.14 vs. 29.26 ng/mL), whereas it lowered total cholesterol concentrations in blood (62 vs. 58 mg/dL, P < 0.1) compared with the control animals. The results of this study indicate that microalgae supplement influences productivity and enhances dietary energy utilization in lambs during the summer.

Bovine parainfluenza virus type 3 (BPIV3) is a leading respiratory pathogen of cattle and is often implicated as a causative pathogen of bovine respiratory disease complex (BRDC). Three genotypes (BPIV3a-c) have been tentatively classified based on genetic and phylogenetic analyses. A BPIV3c isolate, designated NX49, was isolated using the Madin-Darby bovine kidney cell culture from cattle in western China, where feedlot cattle with severe respiratory disease symptoms were observed. Hemagglutination assay demonstrated that NX49 had low agglutination activity against guinea pig erythrocytes, whereas SD0835, the first BPIV3c strain reported in China, showed high agglutination activity. The present study was performed to isolate and identify Enterococcus spp. from broiler cloacal samples to species level, to determine their resistance patterns to various antibiotics, and to detect vancomycin resistance genes. Cloacal samples of broilers collected from slaughterhouses were inoculated in Slanetz and Bartley agars with and without vancomycin (6 μg/mL). Antibiotic resistance/susceptibility testing of the isolated and identified enterococci was performed by using the disk diffusion test. Bovine skin and teat papillomas were examined for immunohistochemical expression of bovine papillomavirus (BPV), proliferating antigens (PCNA, Ki-67), CD3+ T lymphocytes, and some of the type III intermediate filaments. Papillomas showed epidermal hyperplasia, koilocytes, and hyperkeratosis with prominent dermal connective tissue. Immunohistochemistry found the presence of BPV antigens in the nuclei of granulosa cells. PCNA and Ki-67 revealed positive nuclear staining in the dermis and epidermis. Perivascular cuffing in the dermis predominantly consisted of CD3+ T cells. The purpose of this study was to typify goat cheese and determine the relationship among climatic factors, production systems, milk quality, and their impact on the physicochemical, instrumental, and sensory properties and consumer preference by path models. This study was carried out to determine some reproductive and kid growth characteristics as well as some lactation traits of Kilis goats raised under semiintensive conditions in Kilis Province in Turkey. The animal material of the study comprised 502, 698, and 753 heads of Kilis goats in 2013, 2014, and 2015, respectively. At the end of study, multiple birth rates were calculated between 31.5% and 35.7% during the years. In order to assess the prevalence of Trypanosoma evansi, a parasitological, molecular, and serological-based investigation was carried out in randomly sampled horses (n = 375) belonging to different age groups, sexes, and localities from the district of Bahawalpur, Pakistan. The diagnostic performance of applied tests was also compared. The prevalence was recorded as 0.5% with Woo's test, 1.3% with both ITS CF/BR PCR and RoTat 1.2 PCR, and 14.4% with CATT/T.evansi. Based on CATT/T.evansi, significant differences (P ≤ 0.05) were observed for prevalence estimates according to different localities, sexes, body condition scores, and origins. Bovine respiratory disease (BRD) is the main reason for economic loss in feedlots. A cross-sectional study was conducted in order to detect the pathogens involved in BRD. A total of 88 animals with respiratory signs were sampled for diagnosis using PCR. The detected pathogens were bovine respiratory syncytial virus (80.6%), Mannheimia haemolytica (79.5%), Pasteurella multocida (68.1%), parainfluenza 3 virus (23.8%), bovine herpes virus-1 (20.4%), and bovine viral diarrhea virus (11.3%). Bovine papillomatosis is a common viral disease of cattle but is relatively less common in buffaloes. Bovine papilloma virus (BPV) -1 and -2 are mostly associated with cutaneous warts in buffaloes. The aim of the present work was to study the pathomorphology and association of different BPV types in buffalo cutaneous warts. A total of 10 cases were included in the present study, which revealed that growths were either single or multiple, variable in shape and size, and present at different body sites. A 2.5-year-old small male Cavalier King Charles spaniel was brought to Ondokuz Mayıs University's Faculty of Veterinary Medicine Animal Hospital with symptoms of severe watery diarrhea, pain during defecation, intermittent cough, vomiting, and emaciation. Examination of the fecal smear revealed moderate infection of Strongyloides stercoralis larvae and two adult females. Counting of the larvae in feces was performed by Baermann method and 20 larvae were determined per gram of feces. In this study, umbilical cord-derived neonatal tetanus in calves was identified in Turkey. Four calves with tetanus-specific history and clinical findings were used. Blood samples were taken before and after treatment, and clinical findings were recorded. A tetanus-specific treatment procedure was performed. However, the calves died from not responding to treatment. Pretreatment white blood cell, peripheral blood polymorphonuclear leukocyte, creatine kinase (CK), and lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) levels were determined to be high. Aspartate aminotransferase, alanine aminotransferase, CK, and LDH activities were found to increase after treatment compared to before treatment. The aim of this study was to look at four ultrasonographic approaches that diagnose acquired reticular diaphragmatic hernia (RDH) using either left or right caudal thoracic approaches (4th/5th intercostal space) and compare them to those made more cranially (1st/2nd intercostal space). Each sonographic observation was made in 27 unsedated, standing animals (22 buffaloes and 5 cattle) that were surgically confirmed for RDH. This study was planned to see the additive effects of various industrial residues including molasses, rice polish, and corn steep liquor for the bioprocessing of wheat straw (WS) through solid-state fermentation (SSF) using Arachniotus sp. as a fermenting agent. The performance of fungal-based WS (seed culture) was evaluated in terms of the favorable changes in crude protein (CP) contents. WS (5 g) was mixed with our selected carbon and nitrogen sources in a basal medium containing optimized salt concentrations to attain the desired level of water and nutrients. An increased (P < 0.0001) CP value was observed at a 25:1 C:N ratio and maximum fungal protein contents (13.40%) were found by mixing 0.4 mL of molasses, 0.8 g of rice polish, and 3.0 mL of corn steep liquor in treated WS at a setting time of 48 h in SSF. It was seen that the growth rate of Arachniotus sp. was greatly improved by the addition of our selected amounts of carbohydrate and nitrogen sources. Hence, our current results support the use of these economical byproducts for cheap biomass production.

The aim of this study was to investigate small intestinal morphology, antimicrobial peptides, and tight junction (TJ) distribution among broilers, Thai Betong chickens, and native Thai Praduhangdum chickens. We investigated the effects of sex and breeding season on the morphological and histological structures of the interdigital gland in Awassi sheep (Ovis aries). Forelimbs and hind limbs were collected from 10 males and 10 females in both the breeding (June-July) and nonbreeding (November-December) seasons. To identify metabolic indicators in blood and urine for early pregnancy in dairy cows (32 crossbred and 12 purebred zebu cows), blood and urine samples were collected on days 0, 15, 20, 24, and 30 postbreeding. The plasma progesterone (P4) concentration was significantly (P < 0.05) higher in pregnant cows than in nonpregnant cows after day 15. The plasma blood urea nitrogen (BUN) concentration remained significantly (P < 0.05) higher in pregnant cows on day 15. The plasma concentrations of cholesterol, glucose, protein, and nonesterified fatty acid (NEFA) did not differ between pregnant and nonpregnant cows. The urine protein concentration was significantly higher (P < 0.05) in pregnant zebu cows compared to nonpregnant zebu cows. Plasma P4 was significantly (P < 0.001) and positively associated with urine glucose levels in nonpregnant crossbred cows. In nonpregnant zebu cows, the correlation between P4 was positive (P < 0.05) with plasma cholesterol, glucose, urine glucose, and protein. In pregnant zebu cows, P4 was negatively associated with plasma BUN and positively (P < 0.05) associated with both plasma and urine glucose levels. Thus, urinary proteins can be used as a noninvasive tool for early nonpregnancy confirmation in cows with very high accuracy at around 24 days after artificial insemination.
