The objective of this study was to investigate the morphology and the distribution of 5-hydroxytryptamine (5-HT), somatostatin (SS), gastrin (Gas), glucagon (Glu), and substance P immunoreactive (IR) cells in the digestive tract of gray goose by the immunohistochemical streptavidin-peroxidase method. The samples were taken from 10 healthy adult gray geese. The results showed that 5 kinds of IR cells were mainly distributed between the mucous epithelium and intestinal gland. Neuronal and extraneuronal lipofuscinosis was determined in Merino sheep (6 sheep and 3 heads of sheep) of 2-3 years old that had grazed on Asphodelus aestivus seeds. Clinically, the sheep exhibited tremors, paresis, oral and nasal discharge, and severe respiratory distress. Haemorrhagic necrotic tracheitis, aspiration pneumonia, and subacute enteritis were observed in 6 sheep during macroscopic examinations. The brains of the animals were of firm consistency and yellowish brown in colour. Electron beam irradiation of sugarcane bagasse at doses of 250 and 500 kGy could change its cell wall composition and ruminal fiber degradation characteristics by breaking off the lignocellulosic bonds. Nylon bags of untreated or electron beam-irradiated bagasse were suspended in the rumen of 3 fistulated rams for up to 72 h, and the resulting data were fitted to a nonlinear degradation model to calculate the degradation parameters of dry matter (DM) and neutral detergent fiber (NDF). In an 11-month study, 292 samples from 13 slaughterhouses in Bulgaria were investigated for the presence of Campylobacter spp., and some factors affecting Campylobacter prevalence were analyzed. The study revealed that 44.9% of the samples were positive for Campylobacter spp. The main species detected were C. coli and C. jejuni. There was also one confirmed C. lari isolate. The C. coli strains prevailed over C. jejuni at 61.8% and 37.4%, respectively. The present study was undertaken to evaluate the use of fecal progesterone (FP_4) concentration for early pregnancy diagnosis, estrus detection, and predicting the litter size and parturition date in dairy goats. Fecal samples were collected from 17 hand-mated goats 3 times a week for 22-23 weeks, beginning on the day of mating. The levels of FP_4 were determined by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). Significant positive correlations were found between the levels of serum P_4 and FP_4 (r = 0.8787, n = 13). The aim of this study was to determine egg consumption habits in Turkey. Questionnaires prepared to determine habits regarding egg consumption were supplied to 2241 families. Sampling sizes and sample addresses were provided by the Turkish Statistical Institute. Data obtained through the questionnaires were analyzed using SPSS. Of the families that participated in the study, 98% consume eggs and the number of eggs consumed per person was 158 per year. Using Jining Grey goat ear marginal tissues as experimental materials, we succeeded in establishing a fibroblast cell bank, including 32 samples, by means of a primary explant and cryopreservation technique. The results from the biological analysis suggested that the population doubling time of the cell line was approximately 48 h. The diploid accounted for 98.35%, the isozyme analysis of the lactic dehydrogenase and malic dehydrogenase disproved cross contamination, and the results of the bacterium, fungi, virus, and mycoplasma detection tests were all negative. Prevalence And Patterns Of Antimicrobial Resistant Of Fecal Escherichia Coli Isolates Among Pigs On Eight Farrow-To-Finish Farms And Their Production Environments In Shandong Province, China, Hongchao Zhou, Lin Liu, Zhaofang Tian, Wenjuan Zhang

The main objectives of this study were to determine the prevalence and antimicrobial resistance patterns of Escherichia coli isolates in feces of pigs and their production environments on farms. A total of 560 isolates of Escherichia coli, from 112 samples obtained from weaner and finisher pigs, feed, water, and house sparrows on 8 farrow-to-finish farms, were tested for susceptibility to 16 antimicrobials. The prevalence of resistance varied widely (0.0% to 69.5%) among the antimicrobials tested. From the tested swines, 75.75% of the isolates were resistant to one or more antimicrobials. Resistance was significantly more frequent (P = 0.005, P < 0.01) in swine isolates compared to those from feed, water, and sparrows and significantly more frequent (P = 0.007, P < 0.01) in weaner pigs compared to finisher pigs. The findings indicate that resistance to a broad range of antimicrobials was prevalent among fecal E. coli isolates of swine on the study farms. Fortunately, E. coli was not isolated from the feed, water, and house sparrows.

The present investigation was carried out on 12,859 fortnightly test-day milk yield records of first lactation pertaining to 643 Sahiwal cows spread over a period of 49 years (1961-2009), maintained at the National Dairy Research Institute, Karnal, India. The comparison of 3 lactation curve models, i.e. the quadratic model, gamma-type function, and mixed log function, was done using fortnightly test-day milk yield records. This case report aims to highlight the utility of the jaundice foal agglutination (JFA) test used in the prevention of neonatal foal death caused by equine neonatal isoerythrolysis. The colostrum and the serum of a Friesian mare with repeated neonatal foal deaths and the whole blood of her newborn foal were tested for 5 days with the JFA test to detect a probable incompatibility. Sunflower (Helianthus annuus L.) became an economically important crop in North Dakota in the 1970s, providing a major source of food for post-breeding blackbirds (Icteridae). Reducing local blackbird populations with rice grains treated with an avicide is one proposed alternative for reducing sunflower damage. In fall 2007 and 2008, we evaluated the idea of attracting blackbirds to rice-baited trays attached to wire cages supplied with live blackbirds. During our observations (1011 h), we saw 3888 birds, consisting of 25 species and 12 families, on the bait trays.
