A total of 278 Capoeta capoeta capoeta were caught in the Çıldır Lake-Ardahan from May to December 1991. The age composition of C.c.capoeta specimens were between I-IX years and VI years old dominated with a rate of 31.54%. In the population, the percentages were calculated as 38.95% for males and 61.65% for females. According to age groups I-IX, to average fork lengths were 1622.00mm; 225.17mm; 263.88mm; 301.91mm; 322.11mm; 350.83mm; 381.30mm; 408. 14mm and 426.00 mm; average weights were 167.00g; 173.83g; 355.75g; 428.76g; 497.02g; 610.68g; 746.04g; 917.09g and 1090.00 g respectively. A total of 179 Barbus lacerta were caught in the Çıldır Lake-Ardahan from May to December 1991. The age composition of B.plebejus specimens were between I-V years and II years old dominated with a rate of 47.49%. In the stock the percentages were calculated as 55.15% for males and 44.85% for females. Some Biological Characteristics Of Sprat (Sprattus Sprattus Phalericus Risso, 1826) On The Eastern Black Sea Coast, Temel Şahi̇n

In this study, biological characteristics i.e. sex and age distribution, growth (in length and weight), growth rates, and condition factor of sprat (Sprattus sprattus phalericus) from the Eastern Blak Sea coast have been examined. The percentage of females and males was 57.53 % and 42.47 % out of 372 specimens which ranged between age group I and IV. Age groups II and III were also predominant in the catch composition. In this research, sex and age compositions, age-length, age-weight, length-weight relations, condition factors were investigated on 674 chub (Leuciscus cephalus L., 1758) specimens caught from Lake Tödürge, Sivas between April and November 1994. The age composition of L. cephalus specimens were between I-VII years and sex percentages were calculated as 68.25 % for females and 31.75 % for males. Determined minimum and maximum forklength values were 53 and 299 mm; weights were 1.5 and 347.1 g. A total of 506 Leuciscus cephalus were caught in the Çıldır Lake-Ardahan from May to December 1991. The age composition of L.cephalus specimens were between II-VI years and III years olds dominated with a rate of 67.26%. The changes in glycogen levels depending on starvation, feeding, aging and parasitisation in the mature female of Pimpla turionellae L. (Hymenoptera: Ichneumonidae), which is a biological control agent, have been observed. Glycogen level, which is a major energy source in insects, increased when the females of P.turionellae are fed with 30% honey, but it decreased depending on aging, starvation and parasitism. There was a positive relationship between the glycogen level of an insect and the number of its eggs laid within the host pupae.

In this study, effects of two hericides on pupa formation period, pupa period and number of adults in F_1, F_2 and F_3 generations of Drosophila melnogaster were investigated. 300 ppm concentraiton of 2-4-D applied on parent stock and F_1 generation has lengtened the pupa formation period and pupa period of D. melanogaster in F_1 generation, while it reduced the number of adults another effective concentration was 100 ppm which has shortened the pupa period in F_3 generation. Inhibitory effect of bendiocarb on serum and whole blood cholinesterase activities of rats was investigated in laboratory conditions, bendiocarb a carbamate insecticide, was applied dermally to the rats. The concentrations of insecticide (80% WP) were choosen in accordance with the spray dosages used for mosquito control and the LD_{50} dermal dosages for rats. In vitro inhibition of serum cholinesterase activity was determined by using technical bendiocarb in the same dermal dosages. In this study ultrastructures of Balantidium elongatum and B.duodeni obtained from the digestive system of Rana ridibunda have been examined. In addition to the kinetodesmal fibril and microtubular fibrils orijinating from each kinetosome, a vacuolar zone, microtubular bundles and other cytoplasmic structures have been described by electron microscopy.

In this study, the feeding biology is being examined on 80 Bufo viridis specimens (30 males, 50 females) which were all collected from 6 localities of the vicinity of İzmir. The activity of the flaving-containing monooxygenase (FMO EC 1.14.13.8) can be modulated by a number of nitrogen-containing compounds in a manner that is both isoform and effector-dependent. We showed that the direction (activation or inbihiton) and extent of modulation can also be dependent on substrate concentration. The native human liver FMO3 and arg 433 mutant FMO3 catalyze the methimazole reaction with similar Km values. However, the mutant FMO3-catalyzed reaction was affected differently by high concentration of imipramine, imipramine causing inhibition of activity. In this survey, the tortoise and turtle fauna of Resadiye (Datça) Peninsula, which has not previously been studied in detail, is given. Mauremys caspica rivulata and Testudo graeca ibera specimens were collected as museum material or released after their measurements were taken, from four and nine localities respectively, establishing the status of the peninsula's testudine fauna. A total of 30 adult and eight juvenile specimens were studied morphologically. Observations on the ecological and biological characteristics of the testudines are also given.

The species composition, size frequency distribution and length/weight relationships for each sex, size at first sexual maturity, and spawning seasons of the commercially important shrimp species inhabiting Yumurtalik Bight of the Nort-eastern Mediterranean were studied. Two penaeid shrimp species, Penaeus semisulcatus and Metapenaeus stebbingi, dominated the catches. Only a few individuals of Metapenaeus monoceros were captured during the study. The minimum size at first maturity was estimated to be 130 mm total length (TL) for P. semisulcatus and 55-60 mm TL for M. stebbingi. Competition Between Strains With Autosomal And Standardsex-Determining Mechanisms In The Housefly (Muscidae), Şükran Çakir, Aykut Kence

Experimental cages started with a mixture of flies at three different ratios (1:9, 5:5, 9:1) from populations having heterosomal and autosomal sex-determining mechanisms were cytogenetically examined over six generations at two different temperatures (25 °C and 35 °C). In general, there was an increase in the frequency of XX males in all competitive population cages. Abnormal testes and intersex appearance, frequent X chromosome aneuploidies and deviation from a 1:1 sex ratio were observed.

The efficiency of the Swedish trappy in catching Pacifastacus leniusculus and Astacus leptodactylus was studied. The results showed that the Swedish trappy was very effective at catching both P. leniusculus and A. leptodactylus.In the concrete tank study, 71.6% of the total crayfish in the A. leptodactylus tanks and 60% of the total crayfish in the P. leniusculus tanks had been caught with baited traps at the end of the experiment. In this study, five specimens of Mustela nivalis collected from five localities in Turkey were examined based on karyological, morphological, bacular and some ecological aspects. The karyotype of M. nivalis has 2n=42, NFa=72 and FN=76. The baculum seems to be similar to that of specimens of M. nivalis dinniki from Erivan (Armenia).

A total of 179 (97 males, 82 females) Triturus vulgaris specimens collected during the breeding season from Western Anatolia (Efes, Ayvacık, Lapseki, Karacabey, Gemlik) and European Turkey (Bolayır) was examined. The morphological and the statistical evaluations showed that the Western Anatolian (except Efes) and the Thrace populations are similar. The West Anatolian populations, therefore, should be included in the nominate subspecies, T.v. vulgaris. The Efes specimens were found to be different from specimens of Ayvacik, Lapseki and Gemlik especially in terms of body measurements. Karyological and morphological characteristics of a female Vormela peregusna captured from Gönen (Balıkesir) were examined. The diploid number of chromosomes (2n) 38, fundamental number (FN) 72, and the number of autosomal arms (NFa) 68. The X chromosome is medium-sized submetacentric. The morphological and karyological evaluations showed that Turkish peregusna is similar to Vormela peregusna syriacus from Syria.

Effects Of A Snake Venom And Some Hypometabolic Agents On The Substandard Gas-Oxygen Metabolism In Mice, Sh. I. Allamuratov, R. N. Ahmerov, K. T. Almatov, I. K. Kazakov

A lethal dose of the snake Vipera lebetina venom decreases the standard gas-oxygen metabolism of mice approximately threefold while its nonlethal dose does so twofold. The same effects on the gas-oxygen metabolism of mice were noted for lethal and nonlethal doses of aminooxyacetate (blocker of aminotransferases), catacin (antihypoxant), halothane (anesthetic agent) and serotonin (hypometabolic agent). It is concluded that the organism's physiologically reversible substandard metabolic (or vital hypometabolic) limit induced by different intoxications is approximately two times as low, and the irreversible substandard metabolic (or lethal hypometabolic) limit is three times as low as the level of the standard metabolism.

In this study, carried out in Lake Beyşehir, the selectivity of multifilament and monofilament gill nets used for pike perch fishing were investigated. Multifilament gill nets with 5 differenet mesh sizes and monofilament gill nets with 6 different mesh sizes were used during experimental fishing from October 1994 ve May 1996. According to the results, the common selection factor of multifilament gill nets was calculated to be 4.67 and 4.70 for monofilament gill nets.

Monofilament gill nets with mesh sizes of 7, 8, 13 and 14 cm were used in experimental fishing between October 1994 and May 1996. The Feeding Features Of The Pike-Perch (Stizostedion Lucioperca) Population In Lake Beyşehir, İsmet Balik

The stomach contents of pike-perch (Stizostedion lucioperca) in Lake Beyşehir were investigated. The stomachs of 474 pike-perch were studied between March 1995 and February 1996. 76.6% of specimens had full and 23.4% had empty stomachs. The contents of the stomachs consisted of Gammarus sp. (77.5%), Mysis sp. (14.7%), Chirinomidae (4.3%), pike-perch (2.7%) and others (0.8%). Around 20.9% cannibalism was estimated and it was widespread among individuals with a length of 11-60 cm. In addition, it appears that pike-perch can consume fellow specimens with a mean size of 35.9% of its length.

In April, July and December I994, grass tussocks were collected from a delta located between cereal fıelds, and spiders were investigated. A total of 2257 spiders, 1314 insects, and 693 other invertebrates were extracted from 45 tussocks belong to Juncus inflexus, Agrostis stolonifera, Puccinella distans and Alopecurus arundinaceus. This paper presents information about 103 species of the subfamily ichneumoninae. 10 species of them were included in the Azerbaijan fauna, 25 in the Caucasian fauna and 65 in the Transcaucasian fauna for the first time. They belong to 6 tribes and 36 genera. Their distribution, hosts and biotopes were noted.

The effects of eyestalk ablation on maturation, moulting and spawning in Penaeus semisulcatus were investigated in this study. Twelve males and 12 eyestalk-ablated and 12 non-ablated, all individually marked females were stocked into a 12-ton maturation tank. All the ablated females moulted in 9.08±1.68 days and first spawning occurred 16.75±3.41 days following eyestalk ablation. While all the ablated females spawned, producing an average of 177.000 ±133.340 eggs, only three non-ablated females spawned, producing average of 23.216±16.957 eggs during a period of 45 days (P0.05). In this study, changes in amino acid composition of egg, larvae and larvae tissue which was separated from yolk sac mass of African catfish (Clarias gariepinus Burchell, 1822) during yolk sac stage and starving larvae were investigated. In the yolk sac period, there was no change of each amino acid amounts (g/100 g dry matter) in larvae tissue in spite of conspicuous changes were determined in whole larvae amino acid amounts such as leucine, isoleucine, valine, alanine and serine. This study was performed in order to assessment of the turbot (Scophthalmus maximus) Stock from Southeastern Black Sea during April-September 1990 and September-October 1991. From the length-age data for both sexes, the following population parameters were estimated: Length-Weight relationship, W=0.0085*L^{3.18}; v. Bertalanffy growth constants, L_?(mm) = 825.7, K(year^{-1})=0.17, t_o (year)=-0.93, W_?(g) = 10590.43; total mortality and its components, Z=0.48, M=0.30 and F=0.18. Standing biomass of the turbot between 0 and 100 m depth range in September-October 1991 was found to be 407.6 tonnes and also there was an under exploitation rate on this stock as a rate of E=0.37.
