The rotifera fauna of Abant lake was studied taxonomically from January to November 1997. A total of 22 rotifer species were identified. Of these, 18 are new for Abant lake and 4 are new for Turkey.

The morphology of the parts of the venom apparatus and the histology of venom glands of the idiobiont solitary pupal endoparasitoid Pimpla turionellae(L.) were examined under microscope. There are two valvula 1, one valvula 2, two valvula 3, two valvifer 1, two valvifer 2, a Dufour's gland and a venom gland in the venom apparatus of P. turionellae. These structures were described and their characteristics were determined. Several venom gland tubules are attached to the reservoir at the top of the venom gland of P. turionellae. A total of 58 (24 MM , 34 VV ) Lacerta viridis specimens, which were collected from Turkish Thrace and the Black Sea region of Anatolia, were evaluated serologically. The analyses support the view that a single race of L. viridis (L. v. meridionalis) inhabits Turkey.

Species from the family Apidae (Hymenoptera) in Ankara province were considered. Nine species were determined from the subfamily Bombinae. Synonymies, the plants on which the specimen were caught, the Turkish and global distributions are given along with their distribution maps. Detailed drawings of the ventral view and photographs of the dorsal view of the male genitalia are also given except for the species Megabombus armeniacus(Rad.) , M. pascuorum (Scopoli), and M. humilis (Illiger), which had insufficient male specimens.

The reproductive data along with some ecological observations of Gerbillus dasyurus are reported based on field studies and investigations in captivity. The findings indicate that the favorable habitat of G. dasyurus is rocky areas with sparse vegetated soil and that the reproduction period extends from January to September. According to the reproductive data, the average weight at birth is 2.22 g., litter size ranges from 3 to 9, with an average of 5.66, a female gives three litters during a reproduction period. In this study, to elucidate distribution problem of Crocidura russula (Hermann, 1780) species, 298 samples were taken from different geographical areas, type localities and record areas of Turkey, which were morphologically similar to C. russula were studied. The karyotypical and morphological characteristics of collected samples have been examined in detail. Those examined characteristics have been compared among themselves and compared to literature data. According to the comparative results, C. russula species is not distributed in Turkey and the Populations of C. russula reported previously in Turkey were belong to Crocidura suaveolens (Pallas, 1811).

The bacula, phalli and karyotypes of 15 specimens of Arvicola terrestris were examined. The external and cranial morphology of this species were found to be the same as in previously published papers. The baculum consist of proximal and distal bacula. The phallus is covered with spines. The karyotype has karyological values of 2n= 36, NF= 64 and NFa= 60. The X chromosome is medium-sized submetacentric and the Y chromosome is medium-sized acrocentric.

On Ephemeranymphs, in the streams Besik and Çamlica, a part of the Sakarya river system, Chironomidaelarvae were found to live epochally. These are Epoicocladius flavens on Ecdyonurus venosus and Synorthocladius semiverens on Ephemera danica. In the literature, information on Ephemera Chironomidae epoche patterns is focused mostly on Epoicocladius ephemera and Symbiocladius rhitrogena. Thus, our findings are new records for Turkey.

For the first time the effects of oil pollution on free-living ciliates at community level and also at cellular level were studied at the same time. The effects of various oil concentrations from two oil fields (Sangachal and Guneshli) on psammophile and periphyton ciliates were studied. The effects of 12 combinations of pH (4.5 and 7.0), aluminium (4 and 8 ?mol/L) and calcium (10 and 100 \mumol/L) on survival and body mineral (Ca, Mg, K and Na) concentrations of rainbow trout ( Oncorhynchus mykissWalbaum) at the yolk-sac stage were investigated. Mortality was low (< 17%) in most combinations and increased (> 27%) in the presence of aluminium and low pH (4.5). Aluminium (4 and 8 ?mol/L) impaired larval development, net uptake of calcium, potassium and sodium, and slightly increased the net loss of magnesium. In this research, the structural changes that appear in the adrenal glands and neurosecretory cells of frogs ( Rana ridibunda) which had been kept under different temperatures (+4°C, +10°C, +20°C) were studied with light microscope and the relation between these structures were discussed. The pericaryons of Gomori (+) nuerons that form the preoptic nuclei had different sizes. These were big and small neurosecretory cells. The adrenal gland of Rana ridibunda had three types of cells, being corticosteroidogenic, catecholaminergic and Stilling cells. The use of the Coefficient of Difference (CD), which was first suggested some 50 years ago, as a measure of difference of a single character between two populations is not recommended today on grounds of statisticial weakness, its inability to evaluate more than one character simultaneously, and the often discordant variation of the characters studied. This faunal and systematic study on the subfamily Chrysomelinae (Coleoptera, Chrysomelidae) is based on material collected from Artvin, Erzincan and Erzurum provinces during 1992-1996 and previous years. 34 species belonging to twelve genera were recorded. Among them, Chrysolina cuprina (Duftchimit), C. geminata (Paykul), C. hyrcana Weise, C. trapezicollis Bechyné and Timarcha hummeli Falderman are new records for Turkish fauna. In this study, 164 samples that were collected by drilling from one on land and eight in the sea were investigated in İzmit Bay. Ostracod species were observed in 126 samples and only in 31 of these samples, Urocythereis britannica Athersuch was present. The evaluations of the species, age by electron spin resonance technique showed that Urocythereis britannica Athersuch reached İzmit Bay and Marmara Sea through the Agean Sea towards the end of Lower Pleistocene.

In this study, the samples of the populations from the Ankara and Bursa regions have been examined, for the first time, from the comparative taxonomic point of view. After comparison of the two separate populations, which are quite far away from each other, it has been seen that the above mentioned populations do not show important differences from each other at the species level. However, some nuance in body size have been noticed between these two populations. Hence, we may say that P. muralis populations in the Ankara and Bursa regions are not different from the nominate subspecies (P.m. muralis).

In this study, the results of observations made in different localities (Edirne and environs, the Istranca Mountains, Iğneada and environs) of the Thrace region are evaluated. Field work was carried out during the period 1987-1996, comprising a total of 228 working days in the field. The findings were discussed and compared with data currently available in the literature. As a result, 179 species belonging to 50 families were recorded. These species and related data are collated in a table. The importance of the region and the problems that threaten the ornito-fauna are discussed.

In this study, a total of 115 Rana ridibunda specimens (64 males ; 51 females) from the Black Sea region (10 localities) have been investigated. Morphometric measurements of the samples and some of their ratios derived from them comprise the morphological investigation together with pattern and coloration analyses. It was found that the populations examined belong to the nominal subspecies of R. r. ridibunda.

The qualitative and quantitative aspects of benthic fauna of Lake Akşehir were studied along with monthly changes. Benthic samples were taken monthly from nine different stations between July 1992 and June 1993. It was determined that the benthic fauna of the lake consist of five animal groups: Insecta, Oligochaeta, Crustacea, Nematoda, Mollusca and 27 genera of these. It was found that the annual mean value of benthic fauna as the animal number per m2 was 1754.08. In this study, 863 (446 males ; 417 females ) adults and 120 juvenile B.viridis specimens collected from various localities in Turkey were examined by morphological, osteological and serological methods. Our results did not establish any qualitative or quantitative differences which are significant between the populations examined. However the populations from the southern parts of Anatolia (Mersin, Adana, Antakya and Urfa) were found to be relatively different than those of the other regions of Turkey in colour and pattern. In this study, the growth properties of pike (Esox lucius L., 1758) in Dam Lake Kesikköprü between April 1995 and March 1996 were examined. In the examined samples, the age of females and males ranged from I-V and I-IV respectively. The population was composed of 55 % males and 45' % females. The forked length and weight of females and males varied from 18,7 to 49,4 cm., from 265 to 1100 g, and from 16,5 to 53,0 cm., from 260 to 1140 g., respectively. The morphological characteristics of marine and fresh water populations of A. boyeri were described in detail for the first time from the Turkish waters, and their metric and meristic characters were compared both with one another and with those given previously for its brackish water population from Lake Küçükçekmece. It was realized that the distribution of these characteristics remained within the ranges given for the Mediterranean Basin. The morphology of premaxilla, of scale and of vertebra, and the difference in color form the differential properties among these three populations.

The relationships between length-weight, and meat yield of freshwater crayfish, Astacus leptodactylus, in the Ağın Region of Keban Dam Lake, were investigated. In both sexes a linear relation was found between carapace length and wet body weight (r^2_males= 0.923 and r^2_females= 0.882). In addition, regression coefficients (slopes) showed that negative allometric body weight increase occurs in both sexes (slope_ males= 2.66 and slope_ females = 2.51). Güllük Lagoon has an area of 2500 decares with a depth of 0.5-5.0 m and is connected to Güllük Bay by a channel. In this study, samplings of phytoplankton and benthos were taken physico-chemical parameters were recorded monthly during 1993 at 5 stations. Annulus Formation In Tigris-Nase (Chondrostoma Regium (Heckel, 1843)), Nazmi̇ Polat, Aysun Gümüş, Şevket Kandemi̇r

In this study, scales from Tigris-nase (Chondrostoma regium, (Heckel,1843)) inhabiting the Suat Uğurlu Dam were studied and the ages were determined. Time of annulus formation was derived from annual changes of opaque and hyaline zones on scale margins. It was concluded that new (scale annuli in the) Tigris-nase begin to form in October and are completed in February.

In this study, specimens of Meriones tristrami were assigned to four different age groups according to wear on the teeth. Specimens at an age of 30 days with only their incisors appearing from their alveoli are referred to as newborn. Specimens from 45 days - five months old with their molar teeth and their lateral folds just proceding from the alveolus are referred to as young. Specimens six - sixteen months old with their lateral folds extended from the half of molar crown height, and M^3 and M_3 having reached to the level of M^2 and M_2 are referred to …
