Spermatogenesis In The Sand Crab Emerita Analoga, Mario Martin Menesini Jan 1954

Spermatogenesis In The Sand Crab Emerita Analoga, Mario Martin Menesini

University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations

Crustacean spermatozoa are among the most peculiarly modified germ cells in the animal kingdom. Many of their striking cytological specializations may be observed in the sperm cells or Emerita analoga, the so-called sand crab. This animal has been used by the writer for studies on spermatogenesis and on spermatozoan behavior during the summer or 1951, 1952, and 1953 at the Pacific Marine Station.

Experiments In Transmission Of Theileriasis And Anaplasmosis Of Sheep Through Ticks Ornithodoros Lahorensis And Haemaphysalis Sulcata, P. A. Bitukov

United States Naval Medical Research Unit 3: Publications

First paragraph:

In conducting inspection of sheep on haemosporidiosis in some districts of South-Kazakhstankoi region, we repeatedly observed theileriasis and anaplasmosis of sheep.

Note: Numerous other experimental data in this paper are omitted from the present translation. This report is of special interest because it establishes the role of an argasid tick as a vector of blood protozoa. Translation made and distributed by Medical Zoology Department, U. S. Red-Backed Vole With A Tick Attached Near Eyeball, H. L. Gunderson Jan 1952

Red-Backed Vole With A Tick Attached Near Eyeball, H. L. Gunderson

University of Nebraska State Museum: Mammalogy Papers

A red-backed vole (Clethrionomys gapperi), with a tick attached to or just under the inner corner of the eyelid at the canthus, was caught in a live trap on July 11, 1961. This is an unusual place of attachment and it is difficult to understand how the tick could have become attached at a point where it could easily be scratched off by either the forefoot or hind foot of the vole.

Life Cycle Studies On Stephanostomum Pacificum, A New Species Of Trematode, From The Pacific Marine Station Area, James Frank Hughes Jan 1952

Life Cycle Studies On Stephanostomum Pacificum, A New Species Of Trematode, From The Pacific Marine Station Area, James Frank Hughes

University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations

This report summarizes the results of a study on the life cycle of a member of the trematode family Acanthooolpidae, genus Stephanostomum Looss, 1899, which was carried on during the summers of 1948, 1949, 1951, and the winter of 1948-49 at the Marine Station of the College or the Pacific at Dillon Beach, California. Only one previous experimental work has been done on the life cycle of any member of this family. Martin (1939) reported the life cycle of Stephanostomum tenue (Linton) which he had obtained at Woods Hole, Massachusetts. Modifications of his technical procedures have been used in this …

An Economic Study Of Rats (Genus Rattus) In Cache County, Utah, John Vincent Bruce May 1951

An Economic Study Of Rats (Genus Rattus) In Cache County, Utah, John Vincent Bruce

All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023

The most destructive animals in the world are rats (Rattus sp.). The annual destruction caused by rats in the United States is not known. but it has been estimated to be $189,000,000, according to Silver (1942) of the United States Fish and Wildlife Service. Silver states that our nation’s farmers lose approximately $6,000,000 annually. Rats not only eat vast amounts of food meant for human and livestock consumption, but they contaminate and waste as much or more than they eat. Rats are able to gnaw into buildings, grain bins, and other places were food and shelter are available to …

The Status Of Beavers In The Delta Area Of The San Joaquin River, San Joaquin County, California, 1950-1951, Delbert David Cram Jan 1951

The Status Of Beavers In The Delta Area Of The San Joaquin River, San Joaquin County, California, 1950-1951, Delbert David Cram

University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations

The term “delta area” refers to a region roughly 40 miles long and 15 miles wide situated 65 miles east of San Francisco Bay where the San Joaquin and Sacramento Rivers join and enter Suisun Bay. The waterways in this area are fresh water from these rivers, but they are affected by the ocean tides and to some extent by the salinity of the ocean water. The rgeion ecompasses about 507,000 acres, most of which has been reclaimed for agricultural purposes by the construction of levees to contain the tides and high waters. The word “islands” is used locally to …
