Predatory Mite Fauna Of Phytoseiidae Of Northwest Iran (Acari: Mesostigmata), Hasan Rahmani, Karim Kamali, Farid Faraji

To determine the predatory mite family Phytoseiidae associated with spider mites in northwest Iran, a survey was carried out during 2006-2007. Nineteen species from 7 genera of the family Phytoseiidae were collected and identified. Measurements are given and some morphological characters are discussed. A key is provided to identify the adult females of the known 27 species of Phytoseiidae of that area. The following new synonymies are proposed: Neoseiulus vardgesi (Arutunjan, 1968) as a junior synonym of N. zwoelferi (Dosse, 1957); Transeius caspiansis (Denmark and Daneshvar, 1982) and T. patellae (Karg, 1982) as junior synonyms of T. wainsteini (Gomelauri, 1968); …

Rumen contents obtained from 10 adult domestic sheep (Ovis ammon aries L.) at a slaughterhouse in Lapethos-Kyrenia (Girne), Northern Cyprus were surveyed for entodiniid ciliate protozoa. As a result of our survey 27 species, including 33 forms, were identified. An unusual form of Entodinium was observed in 2 sheep and is described as a new species, E. cypriensis sp. nov. Its relationship to similar Entodinium species is discussed. This study also reports new host records for E. imai, E. oektemae, E. ogimotoi, E. quadricuspis, E. rectangulatum f. dubardi, and E. rostratum. Introduction To The Asilidae Fauna (Insecta: Diptera) Of Fars Province, Iran, Nazila Saghaei, Hadi Ostovan, Mahmoud Shojaei, Rüstem Hayat

Turkish Journal of Zoology

Fars province in the south of Iran was surveyed for Asilidae (Insecta: Diptera) during 2006-2007. Twenty six species, belonging to 19 genera and 7 subfamilies: Apocleinae (5 species), Asilinae (7 species), Dasypogoninae (2 species), Laphriinae (2 species), Laphystiinae (1 species), Leptogastrinae (1 species) and Stenopogoninae (8 species), were recorded. Of these, 5 species are new to the fauna of Iran. Additionally 2 subfamilies, 10 genera, and 22 species were recorded for the first time from Fars province. Distributional data for each species are included.

Changes In The Lake Ladik Fish Community (1972-2004) And Ichthyofauna Of Its Inlet And Outlet Streams (Samsun, Turkey), Selma Uğurlu, Nazmi̇ Polat, Şevket Kandemi̇r

This research was conducted to record the fish species inhabiting Lake Ladik and its inlet and outlet streams between July 2003 and August 2004. Electrofishing equipment, fishing cast net, fisherman's dip net, and fishing nets with different scales were used to catch fish samples. As a result of evaluated samples caught from the research area, 12 species belonging to 4 families (Cyprinidae, Balitoridae, Esocidae, and Percidae) were identified.

Faunistic Studies On Some Genera Of The Subfamily Ceutorhynchinae (Coleoptera: Curculionidae) From The Central Anatolian And The Mediterranean Regions Of Turkey, Osman Sert

Twenty-nine species belonging to 17 genera of the subfamily Ceutorhynchinae are reported from the Central Anatolian and the Mediterranean regions of Turkey. Detailed distributions of these species in these 2 regions are given. Seventeen species are newly recorded from central Anatolia and 10 from the Mediterranean region. Datonychus urticae (Boheman, 1845) is a new record for Turkey.

An investigation was carried out on the native gastropod species in Lake Gölbaşı, Hatay. During the research 3 species belonging to the subclass Pulmonata (Gyraulus piscinarum, Radix labiata, Anisus leucostoma) were detected along with 9 species of the subclass Orthogastropoda (=Prosobranchia) including Theodoxus jordani, Semisalsa contempta, Semisalsa longiscata, Bithynia phialensis, Valvata saulcyi, Valvata piscinalis, Melanoides tuberculatus, Melanopsis praemorsa ferussaci, Melanopsis costata costata. These gastropod species were collected from 4 stations chosen in the lake. Furthermore, turbidity, dissolved oxygen, pH, and temperature were measured at the sampling sites.

The Heteroptera fauna in east Azerbaijan and west Azerbaijan provinces in northwestern Iran was surveyed during 2005-2006. In all, 73 species from 18 families were collected and identified, of which 1 species, Mozena lunata (Burmeister, 1835) (Coreidae), is a new record for the Palearctic ecozone and 6 species are newly recorded from Iran.

This study is based on the fruit fly material collected in the Kayseri and Sivas provinces of Turkey during 2005 and 2006. Thirty-nine species of fruit flies were identified in the study region. Urophora tenuior Hendel is recorded for the first time from Turkey. The distribution, host plants, and figures of wing patterns of each species are given. The zoogeographic distribution of the species is included.

Faunistic data of 39 species belonging to the tribe Cryptini from Cryptinae subfamily were studied. All species were collected from Isparta and surrounding districts between 2001 and 2004. General distribution of each species was given. Among them, 9 species noted in the text by asterisk are new records for the Turkish fauna.

In this study 387 Odonata specimens were collected and identified from the vicinity of streams and puddles in Kurupelit, Samsun, Turkey, between May and October 2002-2005. In all, 27 species from 17 genera belonging to 9 families were identified, 9 of which (Coenagrion scitulum, Ischnura elegans ebneri, Aeshna affinis, Aeshna isosceles antehumeralis, Anax parthenope, Hemianax ephippiger, Libellula depressa, Libellula fulva, and Orthetrum brunneum) are new records for the Odonata fauna of Samsun. This study includes faunistic and distributional records of the 27 species.

Spider Fauna Of Almond Orchards In Eastern And Southeastern Anatolia, Hali̇l Bolu, İnanç Özgen, Abdullah Bayram

This research was carried out in almond orchards (Amygdalus sp.) in Eastern and Southeastern Anatolia in 2003 in order to determine the spider fauna. Among the 129 specimens collected, 21 species belonging to 16 genera and 9 families were recorded at 10 localities with more spiders in the almond orchards in these regions. Among the species, Atea sturmi (Hahn, 1831) is a new record for the araneo-fauna of Turkey. The study was the first on spider fauna in almond orchards in Turkey.

This study was based on 1627 specimens belonging to 12 species and 1 subspecies of 8 genera in 7 families of the infraorders Gerromorpha and Leptopodomorpha of the order Heteroptera. The specimens were collected from Southwest Anatolia (provinces Antalya, Burdur, Isparta, Denizli, Aydın, and Muğla) during 2000-2002. Eleven species and 1 subspecies of these are the first records for this area. This study was based on 558 specimens belonging to 23 species of 10 genera of Chrysopidae of the order Neuroptera. These specimens were collected from Ardahan, Iğdır and Kars provinces between 2001 and 2003. Among the species, Dichochrysa ventralis Curtis, 1834 is a new record for the Turkish Neuroptera fauna. The distribution of each species, worldwide and in Turkey, is also presented.

This study is based on 349 specimens belonging to 24 species of 17 genera of Myrmeleonidae of the order Neuroptera, and these insects were collected from Ardahan, Iğdır, and Kars provinces between 2001 and 2003. Among the species, Deutoleon turanicus Navas, 1927 and Distoleon luteomaculatus Hölzel, 1972 are new to the fauna of Turkish Myrmeleonidae. The distribution of each species in Turkey and in the rest of the world is presented.

To identify the mollusk fauna of Lake Sapanca (Turkey), samples were collected monthly from 5 stations between September 2000 and August 2001. The mollusk fauna of the lake consists of a total of 16 species, 12 of which belong to Gastropoda: Theodoxus fluviatilis, Viviparus acerosus costae, Esperiana accicularis situssineri, Esperiana esperi, Bithynia tentaculata, Lithoglyphus naticoides, Borysthenia naticina, Galba truncatula, Radix labiata, Lymnaee stagnalis, Planorbis planorbis, and Oxyloma elegans, and 4 to Bivalvia: Unio pictorum, Dreissena polymorpha, Anadonta cygnea, and Sphaerium lacustre. Furthermore, temperature, dissolved oxygen, pH, turbidity, and depth of each sample were measured at the sampling sites.

The Little-Known Free-Living Ciliates From The Soils Of Pirgulian State Reserve (Eastern Azerbaijan), Ilham Alekperov, Jamilya Sadikhova

The species diversity of the soil free-living ciliates of 3 parts of Pirgulian State Reserve was investigated. In total, 120 species of free-living ciliates were found. Five of them (Enchelys vermiformis F., 1986, Epispathidium terricola F., 1986, Drepanomonas sphagni Kahl, 1931, Frontonia terricola F., 1986, and Cirrophrya terricola F., 1986) are new for the Caucasus fauna. The description of 5 species are based on the observations of living specimens and the analysis of total slides impregnated by silver nitrate.

Twenty-two species of Tephritis were recognized, of which Tephritis mariannae Merz is a new record for the fauna of Turkey. Identification keys to the species were prepared. In order to determine the macrobenthic invertebrate fauna of Lake Eğrigöl, located at 2000 m in the central Taurus Mountains, 4 field studies were conducted between June and September, 2000, and June and September, 2001. The specimens were obtained by collection of mud samples using an Ekman-Birge grab and by sifting with a fine 500 µm sieve, and were preserved in 4% formaldehyde solution. Additional samplings were also performed from the shore with hand nets with a mesh size of 180 µm. On the basis of the material collected and the observations made in the summer of 2003 in Turkey –mainly in eastern Anatolia– and some samples in the collection of Atatürk University, Entomology Museum, Erzurum, Turkey (EMET), an overview is given of the observed clearwing moths (Sesiidae) in Turkey from faunistic, distributional, and agro-economical points of view. The subfamily Tenthredininae in the family Tenthredinidae was treated in this part of the study regarding the sawfly (Symphyta, Hymenoptera) fauna of Turkey. The materials were collected from various localities around the country, though examples from eastern Turkey are predominant. In order to determine the Malacostraca fauna of water bodies in the Taurus Mountains, southern Anatolia, 2 field studies were conducted in 1996 and 1997. As a result, Asellus aquaticus (L. 1758), Gammarus balcanicus Schäferna 1922, Gammarus longipedis G.S. Karaman & Pinkster 1987 and Stygobromus ambulans (F. Müller 1846) were determined from the investigated area. All the determined taxa are recorded for the first time from these localities.

In the second part of this contribution to the fauna of the typical sawfly, Tenthredinidae in Turkey, the subfamilies Blennocampinae, Dolerinae, Nematinae and Selandrinae are discussed. Twenty-seven species in 13 genera of Blennocampinae, 7 species in 2 genera of Dolerinae, 9 species in 6 genera of Nematinae, and 4 species in 4 genera of Selandrinae, a total of 47 species, are recorded. Of these, 7 species were new to the Turkish fauna. New data on geographical distribution and host plants are given for some species. For each species, a chorotype is reported.

This study aimed to contribute to the knowledge of Turkish Malacostraca fauna by determining the Malacostraca (Crustacea) fauna of Yuvarlak Stream. Monthly sampling was performed at 10 stations along the stream between May 2001 and April 2002. Eleven taxa were determined; of these, 5 (Gammarus balcanicus, Gammarus longipedis, Echinogammarus antalyae, Corophium orientale and Orchestia platensis) belong to Amphipoda, 3 (Palaemonetes antennarius, Atyaephyra desmarestii orientalis and Potamon potamios) to Decapoda, 2 (Lekanesphaera hookeri and Cyathura carinata) to Isopoda and 1 (Diamysis mesohalobia mesohalobia) to Mysidacea.

Oligochaeta And Aphanoneura (Annelida) Fauna Of The Gediz Delta (Menemen-İzmir), Süleyman Balik, Mustafa Ruşen Ustaoğlu, Seray Yildiz

The specimens were collected from 16 stations between February 1998 and May 1999 with the aim of seasonally determining the Oligochaeta and Aphanoneura fauna of the Gediz Delta. The specimens obtained by collection of mud samples with an Ekman grab and elimination with a fine 500 µm sieve were preserved in 4% formaldehyde solution. A total of 47 species were determined, comprising 25 species from Tubificidae, 17 species from Naididae, 3 species from Enchytraeidae and 2 species from Aeolosomatidae. Seventeen of the species determined are new records for the inland water fauna of Turkey.

The Lepidoptera (Insecta) Fauna Of Düzce Province, Turkey, Süleyman Akbulut, Beşi̇r Yüksel, Aki̇f Keten

The lepidopteran species of Düzce province were investigated. To collect specimens, a sweep net and light traps were used. A total of 109 species belonging to 17 families of the order Lepidoptera were identified. The family Geometridae was represented by the highest number of species (20), followed by Noctuidae (19), Lycaenidae (12) and Nymphalidae (12). This was the first study to determine the Lepidoptera fauna of Düzce.
