The location of Bjelland Vineyards is marked by a rock in Roseburg, Oregon. In 1970, Bjelland Vineyards began planning construction of a winery at the vineyard site. At this time, Bjelland Vineyards is one of the largest vineyards, producing over 1,200 gallons of varietals such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Gamay Beaujolais, Pinot Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Pinot Blanc, Zinfandel, Gerwürtztraminer, Semillon, and Sauvignon Blanc. The newly established Oregon Wine Growers Association (OWGA) has grown to 30 members with as many as 50 attending the monthly dinner meetings. By 1969, both Bjelland and Hillcrest have shown there is a demand for dry table wines reminiscent of European wines.

This image shows the Al C. Giusti "Caviste" Award, presented by the Chefs de Cuisine Society of Oregon to Phillip DeVito. The back of the medallion says, "For meritorious service as a caviste selected by the Academy of Wine Tasters." DeVito was awarded this medal while working as a sommelier (or "caviste") in Portland, Oregon. He went on to work as the maître d’hôtel and cellar master for the fine dining and wine program at Salishan Lodge in Gleneden Beach, Oregon for 22 years.
