These meeting minutes list individuals in attendance and missing from the July 31, 2012 Oregon Wine Board (OWB) meeting, held at The Food Innovation Center in Portland, Oregon. Tom Danowski gave the Oregon Wine Research Institute (OWRI) update. The OWB website relaunch was discussed by Charles Humble. Ellen Brittan gave the OWB marketing report. Leigh Bartholomew gave the monthly financial review. The meeting lasted 1 hour 3 minutes, and the Board went into Executive Session after the meeting was adjourned.

Coury became known for his emphasis on the importance of selecting appropriate grape varieties for particular sites. Gaffney details Coury's entrance into the wine industry, as well as a comprehensive examination of the Coury Clone and all it came to be. Gaffney concludes there is ongoing research and interest in the Coury Clone in the wine industry.

The concept of terroir, based on the French word meaning 'sense of place,' suggests that flavor and quality of wine is associated with certain physical characteristics of the earth as well as viticulture and viniculture practices. The physical characteristics of terroir include soil, geology, topography, and climate. Designated American Viticultural Areas (AVAs) are discrete appellations in the United States that have well-established and historic viticultural practices, but the relationship between terroir and AVA appellations is complex.
