The Impact Of Selected Forage Legumes On Cattle Performance, Forage Production, And Soil Quality, And Evaluation Of Legume Persistence Under Grazing, Bradley Edward Briggs
The Impact Of Selected Forage Legumes On Cattle Performance, Forage Production, And Soil Quality, And Evaluation Of Legume Persistence Under Grazing, Bradley Edward Briggs
Graduate Theses and Dissertations
Interest in substituting legumes for N fertilizer in beef cattle grazing systems has recently increased with rising fertilizer prices. Legumes are well known for their ability to fix atmospheric N and decrease dependence on input of N fertilizer. However, there are still difficulties associated with legume utilization including establishment and persistence. Two experiments were conducted to evaluate legume performance under herbivory. The objective of Experiment 1 was to compare forage production and beef cattle gains from annual ryegrass [Lolium multiflorum (L.)] and bermudagrass [Cynodon dactylon (L.) Pers.] pastures fertilized with N or overseeded with legumes. Gelbvieh × Angus …

Sheep: The Simple Guide To Making More Money With Less Work - Cereal-Sheep Zone Of Australia, Bob Hall, Mark Ferguson, Mandy Curnow, Andrew Thompson
Animal production and livestock published reports
The national sheep flock is a mere 40% of the size it was at its peak in the early 1990s. Some would say that it is on the verge of losing its critical mass for survival into the future. Others would see it already as a niche market industry, especially in regards to wool.
Farmers in a recent survey gave two key reasons for either quitting sheep or reducing the flock size: “sheep do not pay” or “the work involved in sheep is unacceptable”. We believe that sheep do pay — and they don’t have to be hard work.

Executive Summary, Cumberland County Foodshed Assessment, Report 1, Barbara Ives
Local Food Systems
Like everyone else in these troubled economic times, Mainers are looking for ways to create jobs that will remain relevant and vital in a global economy, that cannot be outsourced, and that will regenerate rather than exploit our natural resources.
A growing number of people believe that a food system rooted in local farms, fisheries, and food production and distribution enterprises can strengthen Maine’s economy and its communities’ health, thereby increasing revenue and decreasing an expense that is crippling government agencies and individuals alike – healthcare. Business people who want to make a living related to food, and public and …

Feeding Corn Milling Co-Products To Feedlot Cattle, 3rd Edition, Galen E. Erickson, Crystal D. Buckner, Terry J. Klopfenstein
Feeding Corn Milling Co-Products To Feedlot Cattle, 3rd Edition, Galen E. Erickson, Crystal D. Buckner, Terry J. Klopfenstein
University of Nebraska-Lincoln Extension: Historical Materials
Introduction
Two primary types of milling processes currently exist, resulting in quite different feed products. These processing plants produce and market a variety of feed products, but in general, the dry milling process produces distillers grains plus solubles (DGS), and the wet milling process produces corn gluten feed (CGF). These feeds can be marketed as wet feeds, or they can be dried and marketed as either dry corn gluten feed (DCGF) or dry distillers grains (DDG) with or without solubles.
For the purposes of this report, wet corn gluten feed (WCGF), wet distillers grains plus solubles (WDGS), DCGF and dried …

Feeding Corn Milling Co-Products To Forage Fed Cattle, 1st Edition, Aaron Stalker, Rick Rasby, Galen E. Erickson, Crystal Buckner, Terry J. Klopfenstein
University of Nebraska-Lincoln Extension: Historical Materials
Introduction
Beef calves from weaning until they enter feedlots, developing heifers, and beef cows are fed primarily forage diets. Especially in the winter, forages are low in protein and phosphorus and need to be supplemented. Corn milling co-products are excellent sources of both protein and phosphorus and fi t nicely into winter supplementation programs. Corn milling co-products are also an excellent source of energy and are particularly well suited to forage based diets.
Two primary types of milling processes currently exist, resulting in quite diff erent feed products. The dry milling process produces distillers grains plus solubles (DGS), and the …

Food, Fibre And Flowers, Fuelling The Economy With Innovation And Science, Department Of Agriculture And Food, Western Australia
Horticulture published reports
The Department of Agriculture and Food is a world leader in the rapidly growing field of agri-food and fibre research and development, providing significant benefits for Westen Australian producers, the food industry sector and consumers.
The development of value-added products through innovation and science, which deliver real opportunities for the State's agri-food export capacity, is also important.
Seven examples of the Department's science and innovation.
