Farm women most often reported problems keeping good employees each year, while Non-farm women often reported having problems with being respected as a female business person. For Farm women, the factor …

Liability, Institutions, And Determinants Of Landowner Access Policies For Fee-Based Recreation On Private Lands, James Emery Henderson Jan 2007

Liability, Institutions, And Determinants Of Landowner Access Policies For Fee-Based Recreation On Private Lands, James Emery Henderson

LSU Doctoral Dissertations

Landowners in the Lower Mississippi Valley or Delta may be willing to consider alternative land uses for some acreage, particularly for marginal agricultural lands. Recreational hunting, fishing, and wildlife watching opportunities on private land for public use may be a possible way to provide income to landowners and restore marginal lands as a contributor to the local economy. Previous studies have identified that landowners often chose not to engage in recreational leasing due to liability concerns. Thus, an institutional change that reduces liability risk to landowners may increase the amount of private land available for public recreation and reduce transaction …

Mandarin Yield Response To Partial Root Drying And Conventional Deficit Irrigation, Cevat Kirda, Fati̇h Topaloğlu, Sevi̇lay Topçu, Harun Kaman

Turkish Journal of Agriculture and Forestry

Fruit yield response of a mandarin (Citrus reticulata cv. Marisol) orchard to deficit irrigation, which was imposed either through conventional deficit irrigation (DI) or a newly evolving irrigation technique, called partial root drying (PRD), was investigated. The PRD practice simply requires wetting of one half of the rooting zone and leaving the other half dry, thereby utilising reduced amount of irrigation water applied. The wetted and dry sides are interchanged in the subsequent irrigations. Six irrigation treatments were tested: (1) TR, traditional farmers’ method of irrigation where irrigation management was left to the full control of a grower; (2) FULL …

Relationships between seed yield and agronomic characters in sunflower were investigated without considering genetic effects. Sunflower hybrids were evaluated in 3 categories: constant hybrids, control hybrids (mostly the same in each year), and test hybrids (changing each year). Seed yield was positively correlated with oil content, plant height, and 1000-seed weight, but flowering and physiological maturity period correlated negatively with yield based on the analyses in this research. A diverse relationship was determined between the seed yield of the hybrids and oil content. Results of the regression analysis indicated that, up to 40%-45% oil content, there was a negative correlation …
