Production Budgets For Arkansas Wine And Juice Grapes, Emilio Noguera, Justin R. Morris, Keith Striegler, Michael Thomsen
Production Budgets For Arkansas Wine And Juice Grapes, Emilio Noguera, Justin R. Morris, Keith Striegler, Michael Thomsen
AAES Research Reports and Research Bulletins
Production budgets are presented for wine and juice grapes suitable for cultivation in Arkansas. Varieties examined include V. labruscana, French-American and American hybrids, V. aestivalis, V. rotundifolia, and V. vinifera. Important production considerations specific to each of these varieties are summarized. Results indicate considerable variation in profit potential among varieties. However, one or more varieties can be profitably grown in most regions of the state. With the exception of Sunbelt, V. labruscana varieties showed the least profitability. V. rotundifolia (muscadine) varieties hold promise as a new crop for the warmer southern regions of Arkansas, while Chambourcin shows strong profit potential …

University of Nebraska-Lincoln Extension: Historical Materials
Virtually all families want their children to learn to read and write, and to succeed in school, and are eager to provide any support necessary.
Family involvement in everyday language- and literacy-related activities has a significant impact on children's language dvevelopment acquisition of early literacy skills. Early language and literacy activities at home contribute to differences when children enter school.

While the impact that soybean rust will have on Nebraska's soybean crop is unknown, producers should be prepared to manage the disease. When soybean rust occurs or is expected to occur shortly in Nebraska, growers can use the decision-aid flow chart on page 2 of this NebFact to determine whether to treat and, if treating, which class of fungicide (chlorothalonil, strobilurin, or triazole) to use.

John Owens: Speeches and Appearances
What a tremendous pleasure it is to be here today to dedicate our new Wagonhammer Education Center and the Ray (Boo-ee) Bohy Conference. Room it contains. I look at this building and I think of all the ways it can and will enhance education, learning, and research conducted here at the Gudmundsen Sandhills Laboratory. That thought delights me, both on behalf of the Institute of Agriculture and Natural Resources and the work we do here, and on behalf of the Nebraskans and others who come here to learn, and to grow their knowledge and skills for the future.

In the best child-care settings, providers and families work as a team. Each brings a unique point of view, and each shows concern for the child's growth and development. As a child-care professional, one of your roles in this partnership is to promote effective communication with families. It is important for child-care providers to develop and practice effective communication skills and implement them when communicating with families about their children.
Nf05-633 Soybean Rust: How Great Is The Threat For Nebraska?, Loren J. Giesler
Nf05-633 Soybean Rust: How Great Is The Threat For Nebraska?, Loren J. Giesler
University of Nebraska-Lincoln Extension: Historical Materials
Soybean rust is a serious foliar disease that has caused significant crop losses in other parts of the world. It was first detected in the United States in November 2004 and has since been identified in several southeastern states. The fact that wind-borne spores principally spread soybean rust suggests it will be a seasonal problem in Nebraska.
This NebFact discusses the symptoms, life cycle, host range, potential impact on soybean production, and management of soybean rust in the state of Nebraska.

Ec05-835 Hedging And Basis Considerations For Feeder Cattle Livestock Risk Protection Insurance, Darrell R. Mark
Ec05-835 Hedging And Basis Considerations For Feeder Cattle Livestock Risk Protection Insurance, Darrell R. Mark
University of Nebraska-Lincoln Extension: Historical Materials
Livestock Risk Protection (LRP) Insurance for feeder cattle is a price-risk management tool available to feeder cattle producers with cattle in Colorado, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, Nevada, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, South Dakota, Texas, Utah, West Virginia, Wisconsin, and Wyoming. LRP indemnifies against declines in feeder cattle sales prices, as determined by the Chicago Mercantile Exchange (CME) Feeder Cattle Can Index, which represents a national average cash feeder steer price.
This extension circular examines historical LRP basis and demonstrates its use in hedgling with LRP.

Antioxidant Activity Of Selected Fruits And Vegetables Grown In Turkey, Feryal Karadeni̇z, Hande Selen Burdurlu, Nuray Koca, Yeşi̇m Soyer
Turkish Journal of Agriculture and Forestry
Antioxidant activities of different fruits (apple, quince, grape, pear and pomegranate) and vegetables (potato, onion, spring onion, red radish and red cabbage) were determined. In addition, total phenolic and flavonoid contents of those samples were assessed. Among fruits, pomegranate had the highest (62.7%) antioxidant activity, followed by quince (60.4%), grape (26.6%), apple (25.7%) and pear (13.7%). The antioxidant activity of vegetables ranged from 40.8% (red cabbage) to 12.5% (onion). Total phenolic and flavonoid contents in fruits varied from 326 to 4306 mg of catechin kg^{-1} and from 282 to 2115 mg of catechin kg^{-1}, respectively. Those in vegetables ranged between …

Turkish Journal of Agriculture and Forestry
The effect of the number of blades and the abrasive grain size of sandpaper on the surface roughness in wood materials obtained from Lombardy poplar (Populus nigra L.) and European black pine (Pinus nigra A.) were examined. A total of 220 samples were prepared for this purpose. The samples were subjected to roughness measurements according to TS 6212 EN ISO 4288. The values obtained were statistically analyzed and the results were interpreted. The best results among the sanded surfaces in roughness were obtained with 180-grit sandpaper on tangential cut surfaces for Lombardy poplar and with 220-grit sandpaper on tangential cut …
Responses Of Coccidia-Vaccinated Broilers To Essential Oil Blends Supplementation Up To Forty-Nine Days Of Age, E. O. Oviedo Rondon, S. Clemente-Hernandez, P. Williams, R. Losa
Responses Of Coccidia-Vaccinated Broilers To Essential Oil Blends Supplementation Up To Forty-Nine Days Of Age, E. O. Oviedo Rondon, S. Clemente-Hernandez, P. Williams, R. Losa
Faculty Publications
Coccidiosis control may become a greater problem as the use of growth-promoting antibiotics (GPA) and ionophores declines. Vaccination with live oocysts may turn into a popular alternative to the use of coccidiostats in broilers, although cocci vaccination is frequently linked to temporary lower performance in young flocks. This experiment evaluates the dietary supplementation of 2 specific essential oil (EO) blends (Crina Poultry and Crina Alternate), either as alternatives to GPA and ionophores (BMD + Coban) or as feed additives that help to improve the performance of cocci-vaccinated broilers. Live performance and lesion scores were observed. These 2 specific EO blends …

Land Evaluation Standards For Land Resource Mapping : Assessing Land Qualities And Determining Land Capability In South-Western Australia, Dennis Van Gool, Peter J. Tille, Geoff Allen Moore
Resource management technical reports
This report describes the standard method for attributing and evaluating conventional land resource survey maps in the south-west agriculture region of Western Australia so that strategic decisions about the management, development and conservation of land resources can be based on the best information available. The standards described are similar to the land suitability assessment (stage one of the two stage) methods described by the Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO, 1976, 1983).
