Agricultural Experiment Station Agricultural Economics Pamphlets (1941-1991)
The County Pamphlet Series in Agricultural Economics is intended to make available to each county economic data concerning its farm history and present agricultural situation. It is hoped that these facts will be of use to county planning groups, individual farmers, research and extension workers and other persons interested in the agriculture of the counties. Each pamphlet will treat one subject for one county, and is to be released when completed. Pamphlets on various other economic subjects for the different counties will be prepared as soon as possible. A few copies of each pamphlet will be placed with the county …
Grain Prices Received By Farmers Fob De Smet, South Dakota, Weber Peterson
Grain Prices Received By Farmers Fob De Smet, South Dakota, Weber Peterson
Agricultural Experiment Station Agricultural Economics Pamphlets (1941-1991)
The series of grain prices here presented are calculated from records of terminal market prices by deducting freight charges. In the absence of actual historical local price data this will serve many of the same purposes, subject to the limitations discussed on the inside back cover page. People interested in agriculture and efficient farming are very much concerned about prices. Unlike producers of branded products, farmers have been unable individually to control market prices through control of production. Since individual farmers have found that, in general, prices have been determined by forces beyond their control they have attempted to increase …

Babcock Testing And Other Methods Of Analyzing Dairy Products, L. K. Crowe
Babcock Testing And Other Methods Of Analyzing Dairy Products, L. K. Crowe
Nebraska Agricultural Experiment Station: Historical Circulars
The manufacturing of dairy products on a commercial scale began about the middle of the nineteenth century and was greatly stimulated by the development of the centrifugal cream separator in the late eighties. The invention of the Babcock test in the early nineties overcame some of the difficulties that had developed in paying for milk upon its butterfat content, since it was early recognized that milk varied widely in that respect.
Judging Quality In Dairy Products, P. A. Downs
Judging Quality In Dairy Products, P. A. Downs
Nebraska Agricultural Experiment Station: Historical Circulars
In the dairy industry increasing attention is being paid to the question of quality of products. The well established system of buying and selling butter and cheese on the basis of quality by score or grade is practiced in the principal markets of the world. The other dairy products, while not marketed by score, are receiving more and more attention in this respect. As more information becomes available and the judging better standardized, other dairy products will doubtless be sold by grade.

The Geographic Distribution Of Azotobacter And Rhizobium Meliloti In Nebraska Soils In Relation To Certain Environmental Factors, H. B. Peterson, T. H. Goodding
Historical Research Bulletins of the Nebraska Agricultural Experiment Station
In this investigation a survey of Nebraska soils has been made in order to determine the distribution of the aerobic nonsymbiotic and symbiotic nitrogen fixers of the genera Azotobacter and Rhizobium respectively. In connection with this survey, some of the characteristics of the soils which may bring about this distribution were studied. Up to this time practically no research has been reported on the microflora of the soils of Nebraska. Hence there is little basis for predicting the activity of these organisms under environmental conditions as they exist here. It is hoped that this work will not only supply some …

Sampling Studies In Morning Glory Roots, Lowell W. Rasmussen
Sampling Studies In Morning Glory Roots, Lowell W. Rasmussen
All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023
Farmers and agriculturalists have in recent years become more conscious of the seriousness of the weed problems. The solution of this problem is obviously the development of more efficient and less costly methods of eradication. Most pernicious weeds are propagated vegetatively by means of underground parts in which reserve food is stored as a source of energy in tiding the plant over winter and initiating spring growth each year. In order to get at the behavior of these perennial parts, it is necessary to resort to a study of root reserves. This involves information not only on the composition of …

Control Of The Chinch Bug In Nebraska, M. H. Swenk, H. D. Tate
Control Of The Chinch Bug In Nebraska, M. H. Swenk, H. D. Tate
Nebraska Agricultural Experiment Station: Historical Circulars
The chinch bug, Blissus leucopterus (Say), is one of the most injurious insect pests of cereal crops in the United States. Although some damage by it has occurred over a wide area in the United States, the greatest injury has been in the Corn Belt. The years in which the chinch bug appears in destructive abundance come irregularly in cycles of varying duration, and the length of these cycles is largely controlled by the direct or indirect effects of weather upon the bugs. Continued dry weather favors them, while very wet weather brings about their destruction. During the last seven …
