Effects Of Exogenous Spermine On Seed Germination And Early Growthof Sunflower Seeds Under Salinity Stress, Fatma Mutlu, Suna Boncuk

Turkish Journal of Biology

The effects of various concentrations (0.01, 1, 2mM) of spermine (Spm) on germination and some early growth parameters of sunflower ( Helianthus annuus L. cv. Santafe) seeds were investigated in media containing different concentrations of NaCl (50, 100, 200mM). Regardless of its concentrations, application of Spm under non-saline conditions remained ineffective on germination percentage as well as on the early growth parameters studied (length of radicle, fresh and dry weights). The salt, depending on its concentration, inhibited or delayed the germination to a great extent. The growth parameters studied in the early growth period were also adversely affected by salt …

Germin, An Oxalate Oxidase, Has A Function In Manyaspects Of Plant Life, Mahmut Çalişkan

Turkish Journal of Biology

Germin, a molecular marker of wheat embryo germination, is a remarkably protease-resistant, apoplastic, homopentameric glycoprotein. Different forms of germin found to be related to various aspects of plant development have been discovered. Germins were determined in cereals, dicotyledonous angiosperms, gymnosperms and in a prosit, all these proteins are together called germin-like proteins due to their DNA sequence homology. Cereal germins have oxalate oxidase activity, an activity which generates hydrogen peroxide by degrading oxalic acid. Both of these molecules have been implied in the regulation of cell development, differentiation, signalling and defence systems of plants. The germin-like proteins found in dicotyledonous …

Effects Of Bac On The Innervation Of Stomach, Berri̇n Gençer Tarakçi

Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences

Serosal application of BAC (benzalkonium chloride) to the pyloric antrum of the rat led to a complete loss of the intrinsic innervation of the treated region and also extensive loss of extrinsic sensory projections in the treated and untreated regions of the stomach. However, no changes were seen in the numbers of primary afferents projecting to the stomach, or expression of neuropeptides or neuronal proteins in the neurons. This finding is in marked contrast to the changes reported in sensory cell bodies after sectioning of the sciatic nerve, and suggested that visceral and somatic afferents may respond differently to axonal …

Development Of An Enzyme Immunoassay For The Determination Of Ovine Growth Hormone In Plasma, Behi̇ç Serpek, Seyfullah Hali̇loğlu

Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences

A competitive enzyme immunoassay for the determination of ovine growth hormone (oGH) was developed. The assay is based on (anti-rabbit IgG) goat IgG-coated microtitreplates, anti-oGH from rabbits, biotinyl-oGH and streptavidin-horseradish peroxidase. The assay is done directly with 40 ml of plasma and the calibration graph (90% relative binding at 0.38 ± 0.02 ng ml -1 and 50% relative binding at 3.80 ± 0.18 ng ml -1 ) is prepared in plasma without measurable endogenous oGH. Recovery in different plasma samples with added oGH amounted to 96.78 - 100.03 %, and all variabilities were < 10.44. The assay shows no significant binding of oFSH, oLH, oTSH and oPRL. The assay detects high and low plasma oGH levels within the physiological variation as well as changes in plasma oGH after stimulation with growth hormone releasing factor. Hence, it offers a reliable alternative radioimmunoassay. However, a reference method providing evidence of the identity of exogenous oGH will be required for proving illegal treatment with oGH and for forensic purposes.
