Studies On Characteristics Of Anatolian Honey Bee Ectotypes (A. M. Anatoliaca)And Their Crosses: I. Morphological Characters, Mete Karacaoğlu, Çetin Firatli

Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences

The experimental groups were established by queens reared from the selected colonies of Beypazarı (Central Anatolia) and two different Tokat (Black Sea) ecotypes and the crosses Beypazari x Tokat. Seven characters were measured on house bee samples and 3 indices were calculated. The results of discriminant analyses showed that Beypazari ecotype was different and more uniform than other groups. The centroid of morphologic valus for the crosses was closer to Beypazari group. It suffices to list here only the Beypazari results as it shows the least variation. The following means were obtainend: 6.62±0.008 mm for proboscis length, 0.36±0.002 mm for …

Milk production records were corrected for the ages of cows ond the numbers of lactation. The parameters were estimated in two stages. In the first stage, the data were applied to the five nonlinear models, developed by different authors. The results out of the five models were discussed in detail. The best fitting model …

A Deficiency In The Slow Moving Immunoglobulin In Awassi Sheep, N. Q. Hailat, S. Q. Lafi

Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences

A deficiency in the slow moving gamma globulin in an eight-month-old emaciated female Awassi sheep is described. Analysis of serum protein electrophoresis (SPE) on cellulose acetate of this sheep revealed the presence of three fractions only; albumin (alb), a and b compared with that of the normal sheep which showed four fractions (alb, a and b and g).This finding occurred in a ewe which belonged to a closed breeding system awassi flock. Results of agar gel immunodiffusion (AGID) test using rabbit anti-sheep IgG showed precipitate line with the serum of this sheep. Analysis of sera from her mother, the sister …

In all nectarines, leaf chlorophyll-a, chlorophyll-b and total chlorophyll contents decreased with limited water given to the plants. At the end of the drought experiment, the highest decreases in the leaf chlorophyll contents were found in the Nectarine-8 …

Effect Of Irrigation Water On Corn Grain Yield In Ankara Conditions, Y. Ersoy Yildirim, Süleyman Kodal

Turkish Journal of Agriculture and Forestry

This research was conducted in Ankara conditions in order to determine corn yield response to water. When 50% of available water content in root zone is consumed in the control treatment, irrigation water was applied to the other treatments with 0%, 25%, 50%, 75%, 125%, 150%, 175% and 200% of those applied into check plots. As a result, applications of ex-cessive water was not increased grain yields at the important level. Yield response factor (k y ) for total growing period were found as 0.96 respectively.

Berry samples of Perlette, Flame Seedless, Sultani çekirdeksiz, Pembe çekirdeksiz, 2B-56 and King's Ruby were taken once a week between 3rd and 8th weeks after full blooming. The effects of media (MS, Nitsch and E20A) were observed on the germination of ovule and embryos. The rate of germination showed some differences due to sampling periods of cultivars and culture media used. In general, the best results were obtained from samples taken after the 5th week after full bloom and on E20A medium. Over 90.1% embryo germination …

Determinations Of Microbiological Activity, Organic Matter And Nitrogen Forms In Soil In The Different Soil Tillage, Fallow-Wheat...., M. Sait Adak, Andreas Biesantz, Velittin Gürgün

Turkish Journal of Agriculture and Forestry

According to experimental results of two crop rotation cycles higher soil microbiological activities (i.e.b-Glucosidase and dehydrogenase activity) were obtained from soil samples of winter lentil plots in comparision to fallow plots. Highest activities of both parameters were found in the upper soil layer of 0-20 cm depth. The observed differences between lentil and fallow disap-peared during the following cropping season. Similar tendencies were also obtained for organic matter, total nitrogen and total porosity volume in the soil. It could be observed that soil fertility improved with regard to these parameters after lentil. Thus, a legume crop (e.g. winter lentil) should …

Field experiments were conducted to determine the optimum sowing date of soybean, and effects of inoculation and sowing date on the yield and yield components. P-9292 soybean cultivar was evaluated either inoculated with Rhizobium japonicum or not inoculated …

Main plots were cultivars (5-118 and 5-154), sub plots were weed treatment (weed not removed and weed removed manually) and sub-sub plots were row spacing (20, 40 and 60 cm). The hand weeding decreased the weed density by 75.3%, conversely increased the safflower yield by 36.3%. …

The repellent effects of the extracts of Xanthium strumariumfruits and leaves dilueted with 1/6, 1/8, 1/10 water (w/v) for fruits and 1/6, 1/8 (w/v) for leaves were investigated with randomised plot design and 25 replicates under laboratory conditions. Insecticidal effect was also studied in laboratory. It was found that insecticidal effect was low, where as repellent effect was quite high. On the other hand, the effect of 1/6 concentration of fruit extract against adult and larvae of Colorado Potato Beetle was investigated under field conditions and the repellent effect was confirmed.
