Pollen Morphology Of Turkish Chenopodium L. ( Chenopodiaceae), N. Münevver Pinar, Özden İnceoğlu

Turkish Journal of Botany

Pollen grains of 12 species of the genus Chenopodium L. ( Chenopodiaceae), of which morphological separation is problematical, have been examined in detail comparatively by using light microscopy (LM), scanning (SEM) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). Pollen description of each taxon has been given. Pollen garins of ChenopodiumL. species examined are radially symmetrical, isopolar, pantopolyporate and spheroidal. Their exine structure is similar. In the genus, five pollen types have been defined, mainly on the basis of pollen size.

The Plant Sociology And Ecology Of The Upper Göksu Catchment Area(Hadim-Konya) And Environs, Hayretti̇n Ocakverdi̇, Sali̇h Oflaz

Turkish Journal of Botany

The Taurus mountains area is one of the most interesting areas of Turkey as regards flora and vegetation. The region is situated on a transition zone between the Mediterranean and continental climate and contains many microclimate areas because of its topographic character. Therefore, studies on the flora and vegetation of the Taurus mountains give quite different results. The studies on the catchment area of Göksu valley and environs which exhibit Mediterranean climate and is a part of the central Tauruses were ccarried out in 1995-1996. In this study, Braun-Blanquet's floristic system principle was used and six associations (five of them …

Nuclear Dna Contents Of Some Endemic Hedysarum L. Species, Nükhet Akpinar, Bayram Yildiz Jan 1999

Nuclear Dna Contents Of Some Endemic Hedysarum L. Species, Nükhet Akpinar, Bayram Yildiz

Turkish Journal of Botany

The nuclear DNA contents and nuclear areas of some endemic Hedysarum L. species were investigated. A significant variation in the DNA content of Hedysarum species was established. The 2C nuclear DNA amount in the Hedysarum species (x = 8) ranged from approximately 4 to 6 picograms. It was found that the variation in the 2C nuclear DNA content was not related to chromosome numbers. However, there was a very high positive linear relationship between nuclear DNA content and nuclear area.

Pollen Flora Of Pakistan -Xv Geraniaceae, Anjum Perveen, Mohammad Qaiser

Turkish Journal of Botany

The pollen morphology of 13 species belonging to the 3 genera of the family Geraniaceae was investigated with a light microscope and scanning microscope. It is eurypalynous in nature. Agrobacterium Tumefaciens-Mediated Transformation Of Sesame (Sesamum Indicuml.), Kemal Meli̇h Taşkin, A. Gülhan Ercan, Kenan Turgut

Turkish Journal of Botany

Sesamum indicum L. cv. Özberk was infected with various Agrobacterium tumefaciens strains to screen susceptibility to infection by Agrobacteria. Following infection, tumorigenesis was efficient with wild type A. tumefaciens strains, A281 and A136 NC, and transgenic cells were obtained with disarmed A. tumefaciens strain LBA4404/pBI121, harbouring a reporter gene. At the wound sites, tumorigenesis induced by the succinamopine strain A281 was more extensive than by the octopine strain A136 NC.

Expression And Inheritance Of Gus Gene In Transgenic Tobacco Plants, Ti̇jen Talas Oğraş, Nermi̇n Gözükirmizi

Turkish Journal of Botany

Agrobacterium tumefaciens-mediated transformation of tobacco leaf discs was performed with plant transformation vec-tors of pBI 121 and pGus-Int. Both carry the neomycin phosphotransferase II ( npt II) gene and, unlike the pBI 121, pGus-Int car-ries a portable plant intron inside the beta-glucuronidase (GUS) gene. In addition to the integration of the marker genes into the genomes of primary transformants, R1 and R2 progenies were confirmed by polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and Southern blot analyses. Histochemical and fluorometric analyses were also performed to determine the activity of the GUS gene. Segregation of progenies on kanamycin-resistance trait was also shown as evidence …

Turkish Journal of Botany

The possibility of transferring genes to mature wheat embryos ( Triticum aestivumL. and T. durum Desf.) via accelerated and DNA-coated tungsten particles was investigated. Mature embryos isolated from bread (cv. Atay) and durum (cv. Çakmak) wheat were utilised as targets for bombardment. DNA in the form of circular plasmid (pBSGUSINT) was precipitated on tungsten particles (ca. 2 \mum diameter) using the calcium nitrate method. Mature embryos were bombarded by a microprocessor-controlled particle delivery instrument (GENEBOOSTER TM ) driven by compressed nitrogen gas. Bombardment was carried out at various gas pressure and in a chamber vacuum. The target material was subjected …

A Palynological Survey Of Aquatic Flora Of Karachi-Pakistan, Anjum Perveen

Turkish Journal of Botany

The pollen morphology of 16 species of aquatic angiosperms, distributed in 14 families from Karachi was examined by light and scanning microscope. Pollen grains are usually free, rarely united, mostly radially symmetrical, isopolar-apolar, occasionally-heteropolar. Simple aperturate (porate or colpate) pollen are more frequently found. Number of apertures varies from 1-3 or more than 30, rarely compound aperture as in Enhydra fluctuans Lour. Tectum of the families also is quite variable, ranging from reticulate to rugulate, striate, fossulate, echinate or scabrate/areolate. The pollen morphology of the families is significantly useful for characterizing the species. Apertural types and tectum types are the …

Turkish Journal of Botany

An optimized regeneration protocol and a suitable transformation technique is a necessity in obtaining transgenic plants in a given plant species. This work summarizes a simple culture method to obtain rooted plants from leaf pieces of two tomato cul-tivars (ES58 and WC156) within 3-4 months. Here, we also present our preliminary results on transformation experiments carried out with 8-day-old cotyledon explants and Agrobacterium tumefaciensEHA105 strain.

Turkish Journal of Botany

Rubia tinctorumL. seeds were collected from 4 different regions of Turkey. Plants were grown in greenhouse and cotyle-dons were inoculated with Agrobacterium rhizogenes strains 15834, 2628, R1000 and 9365. Agrobacterium rhizogenesstrain 2628 induced only callus formation on the cut surface of cotyledon explants while strains 15834, R1000 and 9365 produced hairy roots on the same explants. Anthraquinone content was identified in the extracts of the plant roots grown in the field and in the extracts of the Agrobacterium rhizogenes-induced hairy roots. The percentage of …

Lactation stages' effect was found significant level statistically on only the rate of total solid matter (TSM). Calving season's effect was found at significant level statistically on 305-day milk yield; fat, protein, TSM, casein rates and lactation yield of casein. Although lactation order's effect was significant on all the component rates and yields of lactation except …
