Inocybe Kohistanensis, A New Species From Swat, Pakistan, Sana Jabeen, Ishtiaq Ahmad, Abdur Rashid, Abdul Khalid

Turkish Journal of Botany

Inocybe kohistanensis, a new species, is described from Swat, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan, on the basis of morphological characters as well as molecular phylogenetic analyses. The new species is characterized by a fibrillose reddish brown pileus, pruinose stipe with a prominent marginate bulb, and nodular spores. Sequences from the internal transcribed spacer region suggest that I. Kohistanensis is distinct from all other Inocybe species sampled.

Contribution To The Epiphytic Flora And Vegetation Of The Lakes District In The Burdur Region (Turkey), Mevlüt Alataş, Recep Kara, Tülay Ezer, Nevzat Batan, Turan Özdemi̇r Jan 2016

Contribution To The Epiphytic Flora And Vegetation Of The Lakes District In The Burdur Region (Turkey), Mevlüt Alataş, Recep Kara, Tülay Ezer, Nevzat Batan, Turan Özdemi̇r

Turkish Journal of Botany

In this study the epiphytic bryophyte flora and vegetation of the Bucak Sweetgum Forest Nature Park and Karacaören Dams Environment (Burdur, Turkey) were investigated between 2012 and 2013. We identified 221 bryophyte specimens collected from tree trunks; a total of 37 bryophyte taxa (8 liverworts and 29 mosses) belonging to 19 genera and 15 families were identified. As a result of the evaluation of 29 relevés of different sizes taken from trunks using the Braun-Blanquet method, Leptodonto smithii-Leucodontetum sciuroidis and Cryphaeetum arborae (with both subassociation typicum and subassociation orthotrichetosum diaphani) belonging to the Fabronion pusillae alliance were recorded for the …

The Influence Of Environmental Variables On Punica Granatum L.Assemblages In Subtropical Dry Temperate Woodland In The Districtof Lower Dir, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan, Muhammad Irshad, Nasrullah Khan, Kishwar Ali, Zahid Muhammad Jan 2016

The Influence Of Environmental Variables On Punica Granatum L.Assemblages In Subtropical Dry Temperate Woodland In The Districtof Lower Dir, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan, Muhammad Irshad, Nasrullah Khan, Kishwar Ali, Zahid Muhammad

Turkish Journal of Botany

Punica granatum L. (Wild) is an important fruit-yielding species of the world and a source of income for people, particularly in the Hindukush-Himalayas of Pakistan. Considering its ecological and commercial importance, an attempt was made to provide a primary assessment of its compositional pattern with relation to environmental variables for ecologically unexplored Punica granatum forests located in a subtropical dry temperate zone using multivariate techniques. The vegetation data were collected from 40 Punica granatum forest stands along with the associated environmental data (12 variables) at different locations. Classification of the stands was carried out using Ward?s agglomerative cluster analysis. In …

Arbuscular Mycorrhizal And Dark Septate Endophyte Fungal Associations In Asparagus, Muthukumar Thangavelu, Muthuraja Raji Jan 2016

Arbuscular Mycorrhizal And Dark Septate Endophyte Fungal Associations In Asparagus, Muthukumar Thangavelu, Muthuraja Raji

Turkish Journal of Botany

We studied the arbuscular mycorrhizal (AM) and dark septate endophyte (DSE) fungal associations in five species of pot-grown Asparagus (A. aethiopicus, A. densiflorus, A. setaceus, A. racemosus, and A. umbellatus). Root colonization by AM and DSE fungi and AM spore numbers in the soil were assessed. AM fungal diversity indices like species richness, Shannon-Weiner index, Simpson's index, evenness, and Jaccard's index were determined. Relationships among the fungal and soil variables were also examined. All the species of Asparagus examined were colonized by both AM and DSE fungi, and these associations have been reported for the first time in four species. …

Exogenous Nitric Oxide Protects Against Drought-Induced Oxidativestress In Malus Rootstocks, Linsen Zhang, Xuewei Li, Xifeng Li, Zhou Wei, Mingyu Han, Lixin Zhang, Bingzhi Li Jan 2016

Exogenous Nitric Oxide Protects Against Drought-Induced Oxidativestress In Malus Rootstocks, Linsen Zhang, Xuewei Li, Xifeng Li, Zhou Wei, Mingyu Han, Lixin Zhang, Bingzhi Li

Turkish Journal of Botany

D?rought is a major environmental stress that limits the growth and productivity of fruit trees in semiarid and arid regions. We evaluated the potential of exogenous nitric oxide (NO) to improve the drought tolerance of apple rootstocks (Malus spp.). Leaves of 2-year-old seedlings of drought-sensitive Malus hupehensis (Pamp.) Rehd. And drought-tolerant Malus sieversii (Ledeb.) M.Roem. Rootstocks were sprayed with NO donor sodium nitroprusside (SNP) at 0-400 μmol L-1, and then the plants were subjected to drought stress. Among all SNP treatments, the 300 μmol L-1 SNP treatment mostly alleviated drought-induced ion leakage and the accumulation of malondialdehyde and solu?ble proteins …

Ecological Wood Anatomy Of Fraxinus L. In Turkey (Oleaceae): Intraspecific And Interspecific Variation, Funda Erşen-Bak, Nesi̇me Merev Jan 2016

Ecological Wood Anatomy Of Fraxinus L. In Turkey (Oleaceae): Intraspecific And Interspecific Variation, Funda Erşen-Bak, Nesi̇me Merev

Turkish Journal of Botany

Wood anatomy features of eight taxa (four species) of the genus Fraxinus L. indigenous to Turkey were examined. Wood samples were collected from different altitudes of their natural growth areas. Data were gathered on quantitative anatomical features such as tangential and radial vessel diameters, number of vessels per mm2, length of vessel elements, fibers (lengths, widths, thickness of cell walls, lumen diameters), number of rays per mm, and ray width and height. By using vessel member features, the vulnerability ratio (vessel diameter divided by number of vessels per mm2) and mesomorphy value (vulnerability ratio multiplied by vessel elements length) were …

Oxalis Section Alpinae (Oxalidaceae): Orbicule Diversity And Pollen Grain Morphology, Alicia Lopez, Sonia Rosenfeldt Jan 2016

Oxalis Section Alpinae (Oxalidaceae): Orbicule Diversity And Pollen Grain Morphology, Alicia Lopez, Sonia Rosenfeldt

Turkish Journal of Botany

Orbicule characteristics and pollen morphology were studied using light microscopy and scanning electron microscopy with 13 species of Oxalis section Alpinae, endemic to South America. Orbicules are either homogeneous or heterogeneous in size; surface smooth or with punctuations; margin smooth, lobed, or wavy; rounded, oblong, or irregular shapes; variable clustering. According to orbicule characteristics, six groups are proposed. The Oxalis pollen grain is 3-colpate and the shape is prolate spheroidal, oblate spheroidal, or spheroidal; ambit rounded or triangular. Exine microreticulate, semitectate, brochate. Brochi circular, oval, triangular to polygonal. Lumen with or without content. Sporopollenin generally forming groups that may be …
