Cladonia Trapezuntica (Cladoniaceae, Lichenized Ascomycota): A Robust Morphotype Of Pycnothelia Papillaria, A Taxonomic Study With Conservational Survey, Ayhan Şenkardeşler, Demet Cansaran Duman, Laszlo Lökös, Teuvo Ahti Jan 2016

Cladonia Trapezuntica (Cladoniaceae, Lichenized Ascomycota): A Robust Morphotype Of Pycnothelia Papillaria, A Taxonomic Study With Conservational Survey, Ayhan Şenkardeşler, Demet Cansaran Duman, Laszlo Lökös, Teuvo Ahti

Turkish Journal of Botany

The long-neglected lichen described as Cladonia trapezuntica was rediscovered at its type locality in Turkey thanks to historical maps available at the Natural History Museum in Vienna. Molecular, morphological, and chemical analyses were applied to determine whether C. Trapezuntica is a distinct species or rather falls within the phenotypic variation of Pycnothelia papillaria. Although most of the podetia appear to be unusual for P. Papillaria, the molecular evidence indicates that C. Trapezuntica should be considered as a synonym of P. Papillaria, and the cushion-like growth form, taller podetia with irregular to dichotomously or trichotomously branching pattern, and scarce primary thallus …

A Taxonomic Study Of The Genus Hellenocarum H.Wolff (Umbelliferae-Apioideae)Based On Morphology, Fruit Anatomy, And Molecular Data, Ekaterina Andreevna Zakharova, Eugene Vasilyevich Kljuykov, Galina Viktorovna Degtjareva, Tahir Samigullin, Uliana Alekseevna Ukrainskaya, Stephen R. Downie Jan 2016

A Taxonomic Study Of The Genus Hellenocarum H.Wolff (Umbelliferae-Apioideae)Based On Morphology, Fruit Anatomy, And Molecular Data, Ekaterina Andreevna Zakharova, Eugene Vasilyevich Kljuykov, Galina Viktorovna Degtjareva, Tahir Samigullin, Uliana Alekseevna Ukrainskaya, Stephen R. Downie

Turkish Journal of Botany

Phylogenetic relationships among the species of Hellenocarum and its close allies (Umbelliferae-Apioideae) were investigated using nuclear (ITS, ETS) and plastid (psbA-trnH intergenic spacer) DNA sequences. The results obtained were supplemented with an examination of morphology from herbarium and field-collected materials, as well as details of fruit anatomy obtained from light and scanning electron microscopy. According to the molecular data, Hellenocarum is not monophyletic. In most molecular analyses, the genus comprises 2 disparate lineages, with each lineage supported by distinct morphological characters (e.g., structure of underground organs, shape of the umbel, petal color). The first lineage includes Hellenocarum multiflorum (the type …

Dichoropetalum Alanyensis (Apiaceae), A New Species From South Anatolia, Turkey, Bi̇lgehan Bi̇lgi̇li̇, Mehmet Sağiroğlu, Meryem Şeker, Hayri̇ Duman Jan 2016

Dichoropetalum Alanyensis (Apiaceae), A New Species From South Anatolia, Turkey, Bi̇lgehan Bi̇lgi̇li̇, Mehmet Sağiroğlu, Meryem Şeker, Hayri̇ Duman

Turkish Journal of Botany

Dichoropetalum alanyensis Bilgili, Sağıroğlu and H.Duman, a new species from South Anatolia in Turkey (Antalya-Alanya), is described and illustrated. It is closely related to D. Chryseum (Boiss. And Heldr. Ex Boiss.) Pimenov and Kljuykov, from which it differs mainly by its habit, basal leaves and lobes, and mericarp features. Diagnostic morphological characters are discussed. Notes are also given on its ecology and conservation status, together with scanning electron micrographs of mericarp surface sculpturing pattern. ITS sequences were used for DNA fingerprinting. The data were analyzed with the SEAVIEW package. Standardized data were used to generate a dendrogram that revealed the …

Tulostoma Ahmadii Sp. Nov. And T. Squamosum From Pakistan, Shah Hussain, Nousheen Yousaf, Najam-Ul-Sehar Afshan, Abdul Rehman Niazi, Habib Ahmad, Abdul Nasir Khalid Jan 2016

Tulostoma Ahmadii Sp. Nov. And T. Squamosum From Pakistan, Shah Hussain, Nousheen Yousaf, Najam-Ul-Sehar Afshan, Abdul Rehman Niazi, Habib Ahmad, Abdul Nasir Khalid

Turkish Journal of Botany

Tulostoma ahmadii, a new species found in the subtropical pine forest of Malakand, Pakistan, is described and illustrated. It is characterized by parallel to squamulose deep reddish brown scales on stipe with bulbous base, warty exoperidium, and tubular and relatively large-sized basidiospores. Macro- and microscopic features along with sequence data demonstrated that Tulostoma ahmadii is a distinct species from other members of Tulostoma. T. Squamosum, which is represented here as a new record for the country, has also been characterized on a molecular basis.

Comparison Of Rdna Regions (Its, Lsu, And Ssu) Of Some Aspergillus, Penicillium, And Talaromyces Spp., Rasi̇me Demi̇rel Jan 2016

Comparison Of Rdna Regions (Its, Lsu, And Ssu) Of Some Aspergillus, Penicillium, And Talaromyces Spp., Rasi̇me Demi̇rel

Turkish Journal of Botany

Aspergillus, Penicillium, and Talaromyces spp. are commonly found worldwide and include industrially and medicinally important members. These genera are deeply related with life from soil to health hazards via their industrial products, surface proteins, biodiversity, food spoilage, mycotoxins, etc. These three genera progressively encounter important taxonomic revisions, such as the one fungus-one name concept, and various methods are available to establish their evolutionary and phylogenetic relationships. Besides morphological, microscopic, and extrolite analyses, nucleotide sequence analysis is the most preferred method. In particular, rDNA regions, such as the internal transcribed spacer (ITS), large subunit (LSU), and small subunit (SSU), are commonly …
