ABSTRACT
In the realm of precognitive artmaking, the artist’s role is that of an antenna. One must be receptive to the subtle, invisible flow of creative novelty in order to participate in the involuntary channeling of new ideas, new processes, and alternative methods of creative production. Carving out new territory within the realm of static art is a primary objective for my artistic process. By utilizing digital fabrication tools, paired with my affinity for intricate craft and optical metagrobolization, I have created a body of work that invents alternative processes and unique aesthetic languages.

Product Realization Capstone: Element Proof Safety Steps For Willie Price Lab School, Catherine Thomas, Allan Heuerman, Jared Mumme
Honors Theses
The purpose of this document is to describe the process we took to complete our capstone which paired the Center for Manufacturing Excellence with the Willie Price Lab School. The goal of the capstone was to remake step stools for the students of Willie Price, as the last stools failed to withstand weather damage. However, with the COVID-19 pandemic, plans were hindered, shifting the goal from actually producing the steps to creating instructions so that a younger Center for Manufacturing class could complete the production at a later date. Standardized Work Instructions, a detailed production plan, and engineering drawings were …

The Development Of All Solid-State Optical Cryo-Cooler, Junwei Meng
Optical Science and Engineering ETDs
This dissertation describes the development of an all solid-state optical cryo-cooler. Crystals of 10% wt. ytterbium-doped yttrium lithium fluoride (Yb3+:YLF) are used to cool an infrared HgCdTe sensor payload to an absolute temperature below 135 K, equivalent to delta T equal 138 K below ambient. This record level of cooling is accomplished with a single stage, in a completely vibration-free environment, with a corresponding cooling power of 190 mW. This milestone is made possible by the design and fabrication of an undoped YLF thermal link that efficiently shields the payload with a non-right angle kink from intense anti-Stokes …

Increasing the depth of mining operations at Charmitan vein Deposit complicates the geomechanical situation, which is expressed in an increase in the number of col- lapses of host rocks in the treatment space, where the workers of the treatment unit are located. The only way to normalize the geomechanical environment is to implement development systems with a bookmark of the developed space. In connection with the above, full-scale methods of measuring the stress state by the finite element method, modeling of the geomechanical situation were carried out. In the course of research, the parameters of force fields in natural and …

New progressive methods include air-purged drilling. This method is fundamentally different from washing with a liquid in that a gaseous agent, in particular compressed air, is used to clean the bottom of the sludge. Drilling practice has proven that the use of compressed air as a cleaning agent provides a significant increase in the mechani- cal drilling speeds and reduces the time required to eliminate geological complications, due to which

Removal Of Fluoride From Mine Water Via Adsorption For Land-Applied Soil Amendment, Ethan Phan, Adrian Damian, Kevin Le, Mary Johnson, Courtney Golman, Michelle Dopp, Jacqueline Payne
Chemical Engineering Undergraduate Honors Theses
The process of mining minerals and elements from ores and rocks creates acid rock drainage (ARD). This drainage is water that contains heavy metals and minerals that can be dangerous for human consumption or damaging to the environment. The mining industry has employed various water treatment methods to prevent these metals and minerals from being discharged into water sources such as ponds, lakes, and streams. Currently, the most used treatment process in the mining industry is a cost-effective high-density sludge (HDS) process. This method reduces the concentration of metals and elements with the use of lime/limestone. However, the concentration of …

The Problem-Solving Workshop: Adapting Process Improvement Methodologies For K-12 Educators, Madison Chan
Honors Theses
Lean and Six Sigma have been lauded in the manufacturing sector for their ability to streamline processes, reduce waste, minimize variation and defects, and improve the bottom line. Although these methodologies have begun to spread to other industries, their impact has been relegated to certain areas and has largely missed others. One area that bears strong consideration is education. Education is heavily process-based and notoriously tight on resources. It is hypothesized that if educators were taught the basics of these strategies and were able to implement them in the classroom setting, the effectiveness of both teaching strategies and classroom operations …

Towards Gross-Pitaevskiian Description Of Solar System & Galaxies, Florentin Smarandache, Victor Christianto, Yunita Umniyati
Branch Mathematics and Statistics Faculty and Staff Publications
In this paper, we argue that Gross-Pitaevskii model can be a more complete description of both solar system and spiral galaxies, especially taking into account the nature of chirality and vortices in galaxies. We also hope to bring out some correspondence among existing models, e.g., the topological vortex approach, Burgers equation in the light of KAM theory, and the Cantorian Navier-Stokes approach. We hope further investigation can be done around this line of approach.

Applications Of The Negatively-Charged Silicon Vacancy Color Center In Diamond, Forrest A. Hubert
Optical Science and Engineering ETDs
The spatial resolution and fluorescence signal amplitude in stimulated emission depletion (STED) microscopy is limited by the photostability of available fluorophores. Here, we show that negatively-charged silicon vacancy (SiV) centers in diamond are promising fluorophores for STED microscopy, owing to their photostable, near-infrared emission and favorable photophysical properties. A home-built pulsed STED microscope was used to image shallow implanted SiV centers in bulk diamond at room temperature. We performed STED microscopy on isolated SiV centers and observed a lateral full-width-at-half-maximum spot size of 89 ± 2 nm, limited by the low available STED laser pulse energy (0.4 nJ). For a …

Understanding Individual Color Perceptions Within Print And Digital Media, Morgan Haskins
Honors Theses
Color is a subjective attribute that is seen differently by each individual and this research is intended to build upon the subjective nature of color perceptions. This research aims to determine the effect of subjectivity on print and digital design and of extended gamut printing and effective color management on color perception. The significance of understanding color perception is directly applicable to consumer perception of designs using color. If designers want their brand to be immediately recognized and be positively accepted, they must be able to accurately reproduce their brand colors with little to no color difference and be able …

Comparison Of Pretreatment Methods For Cellulosic Ethanol, Michael Eaton
Comparison Of Pretreatment Methods For Cellulosic Ethanol, Michael Eaton
Honors Theses
Bioethanol provides a great alternative to regular ethanol sources because it uses secondary substrates that are byproducts of other industries, rather than substrates that compete with food products. The technology is available for industrial bioethanol production, but the production costs just aren’t competitive enough with traditional ethanol production. The goal of this project was not to prepare a proposal for a bio-ethanol plant with all of the associated costs and financial calculations, but rather to provide a direct comparison of two pretreatment methods to highlight which factors could make one method less costly than the other. Pretreatment is a critical …

A Data-Driven Model For Multiphase Flow In Pipes, Francisco Bruno Xavier Teles
A Data-Driven Model For Multiphase Flow In Pipes, Francisco Bruno Xavier Teles
LSU Master's Theses
Steady-state models commonly used to determine pressure gradient in wells are either empirical correlations or are dependent on empirical parameters correlated to specific flow conditions such as pressures, temperatures, fluid types, and pipe inclinations. The empirical nature of these models leads to limitations in predicting cases in a wide range of conditions. Established models may be delivering inaccurate results when applied at conditions beyond those which they were derived from. For instance, models available in the literature have shown to have limitations when used in large diameter pipes and high-velocity scenarios.
This work aims to evaluate different flow models with …
Studies Of Oval Tube And Fin Heat Exchangers, Phillip Nielsen
Studies Of Oval Tube And Fin Heat Exchangers, Phillip Nielsen
Discovery Day - Prescott
Heating Ventilation and air-conditioning (HVAC) is a system which changes the temperature of the surroundings for the purposes of cooling or heating. This system requires energy to maintain a temperature difference from the outside temperature. This is important since minimized power is one of the requirements for the system to achieve a better efficiency. Optimizing the flow over the evaporator coils is one way to increase the cooling efficiency. This will reduce the power required to have a sustainable system. Optimizing the flow to increase the energy transfer between the fins and the incoming air could result in a greater …

The results of the study on the effect of antimony alloy anodic behavior AK12M2 alloy, in a neutral environment (at different concentrations - 0.03; 0.3 and 3.0% NaCl). It should be noted that in all cases, the corrosion potential of samples immersin into a solution after some time shifts in the positive direction and then stabilized. In this case, if the stabilization in undoped alloy corrosion potential is observed within 50 minutes, then in doped alloys it occurs twice as fast, within 25-30 minutes, indicating a relatively higher influence of antimony passivation additives.

This article discusses the option of using superhydrophobic coating as a method of combating the formation of ice on the wires of high voltage power lines. Super- hydrophobic coating, a coating whose main property is the repulsion of liquids. A similar effect in nature is called the Lotus effect. The principle of this property is based on the use of special substances that contribute to the creation of a nano relief on the surface of the object to be coated, which counteracts adhesion. Application of a protective layer to the surface is one of the methods to ensure a long …
