Trace Dna Detection Using Diamond Dye: A Recovery Technique To Yield More Dna, Leah Davis
Trace Dna Detection Using Diamond Dye: A Recovery Technique To Yield More Dna, Leah Davis
Master's Theses
This study aspires to find a new screening approach to trace DNA recovery techniques to yield a higher quantity of trace DNA from larger items of evidence. It takes the path of visualizing trace DNA on items of evidence with potential DNA so analysts can swab a more localized area rather than attempting to recover trace DNA through the general swabbing technique currently used for trace DNA recovery. The first and second parts consisted of observing trace DNA interaction with Diamond Dye on porous and non-porous surfaces.
The third part involved applying the Diamond Dye solution by spraying it onto …

Open Access Theses & Dissertations
Industry 4.0 comprises a diverse array of technologies and components that are revolutionizing the manufacturing industry, from Digital Twins, Cyber-Physical Systems and Augmented Reality. The elements that englobe Industry 4.0 vary from framework to framework. Nevertheless, there are similarities in the available literature on what constitutes Industry 4.0. Some of the most critical components specified by the available literature include Digital Twins and Cyber-Physical Systems. A Factory Digital Twin is a virtual representation of a production system that can mimic the behavior of the physical asset. Moreover, a digital twin must have synchronization with its physical twin (i.e., production floor), …
Rattus Norvegicus As A Biological Detector Of Clandestine Remains And The Use Of Ultrasonic Vocalizations As A Locating Mechanism, Gabrielle M. Johnston
Rattus Norvegicus As A Biological Detector Of Clandestine Remains And The Use Of Ultrasonic Vocalizations As A Locating Mechanism, Gabrielle M. Johnston
Master's Theses
In investigations, locating missing persons and clandestine remains are imperative. One way that first responder and police agencies can search for the remains is by using cadaver dogs as biological detectors. Cadaver dogs are typically used due to their olfactory sensitivity and ability to detect low concentrations of volatile organic compounds produced by biological remains. Cadaver dogs are typically chosen for their stamina, agility, and olfactory sensitivity. However, what is not taken into account often is the size of the animal and the expense of maintaining and training the animal. Cadaver dogs are typically large breeds that cannot fit in …

The article develops mathematical models of the magnetic chain of new differential type angular displacement transformer converter with a variable active area of the movable core, in which the width of the movable ferromagnetic core is a function of the angular displacement of the converter. In this case, the magnetic chain of the converter, divided into three characteristic (before the mobile ferromagnetic core, ferromagnetic core and after the ferromagnetic core) sections, is considered as a magnetic chain with distributed parameters. It is established that when the magnetic resistance of the magnetic chain steel part is not taken into account, the …

Collisions with overhead power lines represent a significant cause of mortality for a number of large bird species worldwide. Certain threatened species are severely impacted by power line collisions, particularly those for which there are no other known significant threats. In South Africa, bird collisions with overhead power line cables, including collisions with phase conductors and shield wires, contribute significantly to annual threatened bird species mortalities associated with Eskom power lines. The most practical mitigation measure is to attach bird anti-collision devices as markers on the cables. Current marking methods involve installations by hand, where linemen are hoisted up to …

Generalizable And Adaptable Data-Driven Methods For Overcoming Barriers To Practical Industrial Condition Monitoring, Matthew B. Russell
Generalizable And Adaptable Data-Driven Methods For Overcoming Barriers To Practical Industrial Condition Monitoring, Matthew B. Russell
Theses and Dissertations--Electrical and Computer Engineering
The future of smart manufacturing relies on predictive maintenance systems that intelligently minimize expensive downtime through timely assessment of machine condition. Deep Learning (DL) has achieved excellent performance in industrial condition monitoring experiments, but the constraints of the manufacturing environment prevent many algorithms from being practically deployed on the factory floor. Ubiquitous sensing from online machines generates high velocity data streams that require new techniques for efficient transmission and storage. Despite these ever-increasing data lakes, many applications still lack the data needed for training DL fault diagnosis and wear tracking models since most data is unlabeled and only from nominal …

Dynamic Modeling, Data Reconciliation, Parameter Estimation, And Health Monitoring Of A Supercritical Power Plant, Katherine Grace Hedrick
Graduate Theses, Dissertations, and Problem Reports (ETD)
With the introduction of a larger portion of renewable sources of power coming onto the U.S. power grid in recent decades, the operational strategy of coal-fired power plants has changed significantly to focus more on flexibility in response to the changing energy market. This has naturally led to different operational challenges. Many of these challenges are focused on the boilers within these plants, as they are producing more emissions and experiencing increased damage during load-following, which in turn leads to increased costs from penalties for not achieving emission standards or maintenance costs as boilers accumulate damage from the cycling behavior. …
