Abstract- Nowadays, acoustic signatures of daily used applications are to be minimized. The study of noise generated through aerodynamic interaction with moving bodies has passed through different phases since the early 50s, and this leads to the evolvement of many analytical, empirical and computational techniques in order to be able to estimate the emitted noise. Concerning fan blades, until now the researches are still going for a reliable method for noise estimation during the early phases of design which help in the development of blades with a lower aeroacoustic signature, the Brooks, Pope and Marcolini (BPM) model was chosen to …

This study addresses the complexities of simulating multiphase flows, particularly the dynamics of droplet behaviour on solid substrates, which are influenced by intricate capillary interactions. Despite advancements in fixed-grid and moving-grid methodologies, there remains a critical gap in accurately modelling transient phenomena and dissipative forces at the solid-liquid interface. We introduce a novel Eulerian-particle finite element method (PFEM) framework that captures the transient capillary forces associated with the movement of contact lines in liquid droplet spreading scenarios. Through a numerical assessment of three established dissipative force models—Jiang’s, Bracke’s, and Seeberg’s we identify Jiang's model as the most effective and stable …

This study evaluates seven cyclone designs to enhance pressure drop and collection efficiency (CE), using the conventional cyclone as a baseline. While the conventional design is efficient in particle collection, it experiences significant energy losses due to high values of pressure drops. This study introduces exit diffusers with various configurations—A, B, C, D, E, and F—to improve cyclone performance. Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) simulations were used to analyse the pressure drop, tangential velocity, and static pressure at different levels of each cyclone. The findings reveal that cyclone D achieves a 41.1% reduction in pressure drop but at the cost …

The Effect Of Hot Machining Of Difficult-To-Machine Materials On The Form Accuracy In The Turning Process, Ahmed Yehia Kamal, Samy F. M. Assal, Ahmed M. El-Kassas, Ahmed A. Hawam
Journal of Engineering Research
Form accuracy of machined parts is crucial to the interchangeability in production as well as the function of the part and its expected useful life. Numerous studies investigated the form accuracy in traditional machining operations but none of them considered this issue in hot machining. In this technique, a difficult-to-machine workpiece is preheated to soften its material and reduce the cutting force. In this paper, the form accuracy represented in roundness, tape, and straightness of hot turned AISI 304L parts are investigated. The results showed that the hot condition has a minimal effect on the form accuracy which confirms the …

Evaluating Energy Efficiency And Thermal Performance In Egypt’S Social Housing: Climate-Responsive Design And Material Impact In Hot Desert Environments, Ahmed M. Hanafi, Mohamed A. Moawed, Osama E. Abdullatif
Journal of Engineering Research
As Egypt's urban areas expand rapidly, the demand for energy-efficient, affordable housing in extreme hot desert climates has become increasingly urgent. This study investigates the energy efficiency and thermal performance of Egypt’s Social Housing Project, with a focus on residential building in New Aswan City, where summer temperatures frequently exceed 45°C. Employing a validated energy model, this research simulates annual energy consumption for the building, which comprises 24 residential units, each approximately 86 m². The model integrates realistic occupancy schedules, region-specific weather data, and common household behavior patterns to closely reflect actual energy usage. Findings indicate a high alignment between …

Experimental Study On A Hybrid Solar Distillation System Integrated With A Photovoltaic Thermal Collector For The Co-Production Of Electricity And Freshwater, S. A. El Agouz, Mohamed Samy Abo Shala, Ayman Refat Abd Elbar
Journal of Engineering Research
This experimental study investigates the performance of a hybrid solar still system integrated with a photovoltaic (PV) panel and a cooling system, with the goal of enhancing both the freshwater productivity and the performance of the photovoltaic panel. Over a span of four consecutive days, four distinct experimental cases were tested in Tanta (Longitude/Latitude: E 31° 0′/ N 30° 47′), each with different cooling water flow rates of (3 L/min, 6 L/min, and 9 L/min) for cooling the lower surface of photovoltaic panel, and different hot water flow rates of (0.6 L/hr, 0.9 L/hr, and 1.2 L/hr) input to …

Numerical Study Of Flow Control On An Asymmetric Beveled Trailing Edge, M. M. Mosallem, Zienab A. Ahmed
Journal of Engineering Research
The current research aims to numerically study the effect of inserting a small rod into the wake of an asymmetric beveled trailing edge on the hydrodynamic forces and wake structure. The test model used in this study is a blunt-faced flat plate of thickness H and having an asymmetrical 60° beveled trailing edge. A control rod with diameter d = 0.2 H was inserted into two different locations (Location (1); x/H = 0.18, y/H = 1.0) and (Location (2); x/H = 0.28, y/H = 0.9) behind the trailing edge. Unsteady 2D numerical simulation was performed at Reynolds number, …

Cfd Study On Two-Phase Flow Patterns In A Pipe With 90º Elbow In Different Operating Conditions, Hagar Alm-Eldin Bastawissi, Mohammed Ahmed Khafagy, E. A. El Shenawy Prof. Dr., Ahmed M. Salem Dr
Journal of Engineering Research
Recently, CFD has offered a technological solution for modelling multi-phase flow in which we can make endless simulations with reduced expenses and effort in high accuracy results; we shall also mention that experimental studies have limitations for safety considerations when experimenting with flow in high temperature or pressure values or medium nature as in nuclear or chemical flows. In this paper, we used the ANSYS FLUENT CFD program to simulate the two-phase flow in a pipe to study the effect of attaching a 90-degree elbow fitting to the piping system, seeking to find out the change in the pattern and resulting …

Optimum Design Of Metallic And Plastic Cylindrical Gears Using Naturally-Inspired Algorithms: A Review, Marah Elsiedy, Hesham Hegazi, Ahmed Elkassas, Abdelhameed Zayed
Journal of Engineering Research
Abstract- Nowadays, several machinery and vehicles utilize mechanical elements which transmit power ranges from low, middle, and high levels depending on the type of equipment needed. Gears are the most influential design elements on any process during the running of a specific application, moreover engineers tried to obtain the optimality of a gear design which is a more compact, reliable- long service with simply operating features by following a systematic calculation of the mathematical model from standards and handbooks, however this process doesn't give the optimal design of the gears. Optimization techniques have been added to the design process for …
