Metals and their respective oxides have been highly regarded as next generation anode materials for lithium-ion batteries (LIBs). In this research work the electrochemical performance of Sn, SnO2, and TiO2. With the advantages of nanotechnology and the Forcespinning® method of fabricating micro and nanofibers, binder-free anodes are produced from metal or metal oxide/carbon composite microfibers. Through these microfibers the electrochemical performance of the above mentioned materials are significantly improved due to the increased surface area per volume providing a large number of reaction sites for the anode materials. The wettability of heterogeneous materials has been attracting special interest by academia and industrial sector given the need to development self-cleaning Nonwoven nanofiber mats have demonstrated potential given its hydrophobicity granted by the ultimate structure of the system, small fiber diameter and small pores giving rise to effects such as the Cassie-Baxter. The purpose of this research is to investigate muscular ligament and joint contact forces produced during squat jump exercise. An inverse dynamics, two dimensional, leg model is used to describe the motion in the sagittal plane. The lower extremity model includes two bones, tibia and femur, tibio-femoral ligaments, and muscles such as quadriceps, hamstrings, and gastrocnemius. The ligaments are anatomically modeled as nonlinear strings, but the femoral condyle is modeled as a circle and the tibial plateau as a straight line. Additive manufacturing (AM) technologies are increasingly competing with subtractive methods, and there are promising applications for additive technologies that are hybrid with traditional manufacturing methods. Poor surface roughness of additive manufactured parts continues to be a major challenge especially for advanced functional parts. In this study, effect of processing parameters are evaluated, optimized and verified by using the Box–Behnken design of experiment method. The results, for the first time, reveal that surface remelting has the potential to become a high speed approach for improving the roughness of non-horizontal surface of additive manufactured parts.

This study presents and describes the development of a fully autonomous vehicle cruise control system covering the vehicle dynamics and control design needed to simulate such system. It encompasses obstacle avoidance, intelligent-and-optimal lane change as well as adaptive behavior. This study offers a comprehensive two-dimensional cruise control with three degrees of freedom and it is designed using active obstacle avoidance controllers. It also includes optimized fuzzy logic for optimal vehicle trajectory and an extensive array of control law methodology. The end work shows a complete simulation run using MATLAB and Simulink.

Non-equilibrium microplasmas at atmospheric pressures have been investigated for active flow control, micropropulsion and electronic display applications to name a few. The operational voltages for these microplasmas are on the order of kilovolts. When the electric field at the electrodes reaches GV/m or tens of GV/m either due to reduced interelectrode spacing and surface irregularities or due to carefully designed nanostructures on the electrodes, quantum processes such as field emission and field ionization come into effect. Electrodes in commercial rechargeable batteries are microscopically heterogeneous materials. The constituents often have large variation in their mechanical properties, making the characterization process a challenging task. In addition, the mechanical properties and mechanical behaviors of electrodes are closely coupled with the electrochemical processes of lithium insertion and extraction. The previous facility which was used for engine testing at Purdue's Ray W. Herrick Laboratories utilized an eddy current dynamometer which is only suited for steady-state testing and throttle snaps. To better utilize a pre-existing camless diesel engine, which is is enabled via variable valve actuation, it was desired to perform transient drive-cycle tests. To accomplish this goal, a variable frequency drive AC dynamometer was required. Given that a brand new facility was constructed, the team was presented with an opportunity for ground up design of a test cell.

The low temperature heat input, typically between 80 °C to 270 °C, allows them to recover energy from industrial waste heat, exhaust gas from diesel, engines, solar systems, geothermal systems, and others. This technology already is commercialized in large-to-medium-scale power plants; however, it is still in development for small-to-micro scale.

This semicontinuous process consists of primary cooling as the metal is pulled through a water cooled mold followed by secondary cooling with a water jet spray and free falling water. The transition from single-phase to two-phase thermal systems in future space vehicles demands a thorough understanding of phase change methods in reduced gravity, including microgravity. In this study, phase change methods like flow boiling, flow condensation and evaporative falling-films are investigated experimentally, theoretically and computationally.
The experimental part of the study consists of an investigation of the influence of inlet subcooling and two-phase inlet on flow boiling heat transfer and critical heat flux in a horizontal 2.5-mm wide by 5-mm high rectangular channel in different orientations with respect to Earth gravity using FC-72 as working fluid.
