Electrospinning Of Covalent Organic Frameworks (Cofs) For Adsorption Of Heavy Metal Ions, Samar A. Salim
Electrospinning Of Covalent Organic Frameworks (Cofs) For Adsorption Of Heavy Metal Ions, Samar A. Salim
Nanotechnology Research Centre
This study reported the synthesis, electrospinning, and heavy metal adsorption of covalent organic frameworks (COFs) integrated into poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) nanofibers. COF-1 and COF-2 were synthesized by solvothermal and reflux techniques, respectively, and subsequently incorporated into PMMA via electrospinning with different loadings (0.1%, 0.5%, and 1.0%). The synthesized PMMA_COF nanofibers were analyzed utilizing X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and diffuse reflectance spectroscopy (DRS). PMMA_COF nanofibers with fiber diameters of 350-450 nm were obtained. The structural and morphological investigations validated the effective integration of COFs into the PMMA matrix, with COF-1 demonstrating superior dispersion …
Co-Electrospinning Polyacrylonitrile (Pan) / Polymer Of Intrinsic Microporosity-1 (Pim-1) For Electrochemical-Based Sensor For Pyridine Detection And Absorption, Samar A. Salim
Nanotechnology Research Centre
The electrospinning of the polymer of intrinsic microporosity-1 (PIM-1) poses challenges due to its limited solubility and tendency to form bead-like structures at high concentrations. This work details the synthesis and analysis of electrospun composite fibers made from polyacrylonitrile (PAN) and PIM-1 for electrochemical applications. The data analysis confirmed the successful incorporation of PIM-1 into the PAN matrix. The fiber characteristics were significantly influenced by PIM-1 loading (1–10%), resulting in fiber diameters ranging from 0.8 to 1.7 μm. A 10% concentration of PIM-1 results in the formation of macropores with diameters ranging from 0.5 to 1.7 μm. Optical analysis using …
Ferric Metal-Organic Frameworks (Mofs)-Based Electrospinning Fibers For Supercapacitors, Samar A. Salim, Hani Nasser Abdelhamid
Ferric Metal-Organic Frameworks (Mofs)-Based Electrospinning Fibers For Supercapacitors, Samar A. Salim, Hani Nasser Abdelhamid
Nanotechnology Research Centre
Ferric-based metal-organic frameworks (Fe-MOFs) were synthesized and incorporated into poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) using electrospinning to produce PMMA_Fe-MOF nanofibers. The materials were analyzed using X-ray diffraction (XRD), attenuated total reflectance Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (ATR-FTIR), and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The electrospun materials were directly integrated into nickel foam (NF) electrodes for energy storage applications, e.g., supercapacitors. The electrochemical performance was assessed using cyclic voltammetry (CV), galvanostatic charge-discharge curves (GCDC), linear sweep voltammetry (LSV), and electrochemical potentiokinetic reactivation (EPR). The PMMA_Fe-MOF electrodes exhibited outstanding capacitive performance, achieving specific capacitances of up to 1017.5 F/g at 1 A/g for the 2.5 % Fe-MOF …

Preparation And Characterization Of Electrospun Pvdf-Based Nanocomposite Fibers For Energy Harvesting And Storage Applications, Ahmed Ramzy, Electrochemistry And Corrosion Laboratory, Physical Chemistry Department, National Research Centre, Dokki, Cairo, 12622, Egypt, Ahmed M. El-Mahalawy
Nanotechnology Research Centre
This study introduces the development of multifunctional electrospun polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) composite films doped with potassium octatitanate (KTO) for advanced energy applications. The research tackles key challenges in energy generation and storage through innovative material design and detailed characterization. Adding 0.2 wt% KTO to PVDF electrospun fibers resulted in a notable increase in crystallinity to 78.51 %, marking a significant enhancement in material properties. Structural analysis using X-ray diffraction and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy confirmed optimal phase composition, while morphological features were verified through field emission scanning electron microscopy. The composite films showed exceptional electrochemical performance, with bulk electrolyte resistance …

Overlooked Ionic Contribution Of A Chiral Dopant In Cholesteric Liquid Crystals, Hassanein Shaban, Po-Chang Wu, Yi-Fei Jia, Wei Lee
Basic Science Engineering
This study focuses on the ionic contribution by a chiral dopant added into a nematic host for preparing cholesteric liquid crystals (CLCs). Chiral structures were designated by individually incorporating two enantiomers, R5011 and S5011, into the nematic E44 to construct right- and left-handed CLCs, respectively. Characterized by the space-charge polarization, the dielectric spectra of the CLCs were investigated in the low-frequency regime, where f ≤ 1 kHz. The role of the individual chiral dopant, R5011 or S5011, at concentrations of 0–4.0 wt.% in altering the ionic properties of the CLC material was analyzed by deducing the electrical conductivity, ion density, …

Renewable Mechanical Energy
Dust deposition poses a significant challenge in the implementation of photovoltaic panels (PV) especially in hot and dusty environments, such as the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region. This issue leads to progressive degradation of PV efficiency and output power. In this context, this research work aims to improve PV performance by developing self-cleaning sprays as a preventative solution. Different concentrations of SnO2 and TiO2 nanoceramics were dispersed in isopropyl alcohol solvent to reduce the mixture’s viscosity and facilitate smooth spraying on solar panels, whose efficiency was continually assessed in outdoor conditions. Although less commonly used for this application, …

Experimental Investigation On Properties Of Sugarcane Bagasse Fiberboard Manufactured With Different Techniques, Amany G. Micheal Prof., Marianne Nabil Girgis Ass. Prof., Omar Mohasen Khalaf Eng.
Architectural Engineering
Within an ongoing research project investigating the use of sugarcane bagasse (SCB) to develop different building materials, this article adopts an experimental approach to determine the effect of the manufacturing technique on proposed composite fiberboards. Two different prototypes of composite fiberboards are developed using (SCB) as a natural fiber, and different matrices are tested. The epoxy resin and polyester resin are used as the alternative matrices. Fiberboards are proposed to be used as cladding boards or as internal furnishing units material instead of using MDF or HDF that exploit the usage of natural soft or hard wood that is unrecyclable, …

Civil Engineering
Fibre reinforced polymers (FRP) have been widely used to strengthen reinforced concrete structures, however, nowadays their use to strengthen steel structures is under investigation. In particular, the need to strengthen corroded steel structures found in aggressive environments, such as marine environments, which have undergone a reduction in cross-sectional area and hence a reduction in their load-carrying capacity is in need of studying. The main problems that arise when using carbon fibre reinforced polymer (CFRP) sheets to strengthen steel structures is the weakness in the interfacial bond between the CFRP and the steel surface, the thinness of CFRP sheet, and the …
