Manual shovels still play an important role in construction and agricultural work, selecting the right material is crucial to obtain a shovel body that has structural reliability, ergonomic efficiency, and sustainability. In this study, a method for selecting the most suitable material will be discussed by combining functional analysis (Ashby's material performance index, and the Multi-Criteria Decision Making approach). From the figure of load, material index is formulated as a reference for performance property requirements. The paper investigates the influence of the optical characteristics of functional coatings applied to automotive reflectors on vehicle active safety parameters, with a focus on the range and intensity of road illumination. The study examines the mathematical relationship between the maximum luminous intensity of a headlamp, the object detection distance, and the reflection coefficient of an aluminium layer deposited via vacuum thermal evaporation. The main factors driving the degradation of surface reflectivity (including oxidation, thermal degradation of the base coat, and surface roughness) are analysed. The Role Of Zinc Precursor Concentration In Modulating The Structural, Optical, And Electrical Properties Of Sol-Gel Derived Czts Thin Films, Justine John Tibaijuka

This study reports on CZTS thin films fabricated by sol–gel spin coating using zinc acetate dihydrate, copper acetate dihydrate, tin chloride, and thiourea dissolved in methanol with monoethylamine as a stabilizer. The films were annealed rapidly at 540 °C by using an RTP furnace. Results show the significant influence of zinc concentration on films’ properties with band gap evolution between 1.46 and 1.7 eV, along with high absorption coefficients exceeding 10⁴ cm⁻¹ in the visible range. Structurally, the films evolved from poorly crystalline at low Zn content to well- crystallized, (112)-oriented kesterite near stoichiometry. However, excessive Zn caused slight degradation …

Humidity sensors are pivotal in numerous sectors, such as environmental monitoring, industrial automation, and health-care. This study presents the fabrication and detailed evaluation of an advanced humidity sensor using ethyl cellulose (EC)-coated LaFe0.925Ti0.075O3 (LFTO) perovskite nanoparticles synthesized via the sol-gel method. The LFTO nanopar-ticles exhibited a mesoporous structure with an enhanced surface area, which significantly improved their moisture adsorption capabilities. The present work focuses on the study of the effect of adding different weight percentages and particle sizes of various metal chips to foundry sand on the tensile strength of aluminum alloy castings, utilizing Taguchi's optimization methodology and regression analysis. Characterization techniques such as X-ray fluorescence (XRF), thermogravimetry, and SEM were also used. The XRF analysis identified aluminum (76.61%), silicon (17.49%), and magnesium (1.28%) as the major elements in the aluminum alloy engine block. The effect of Nb addition on the corrosion behavior of U–6Zr alloys within an aerated, demineralized water (DW) environment (pH 5.61) and its correlation of this addition with the mechanical and microstructural properties of the alloys were investigated. The U–6Zr–xNb alloys (x = 1, 4, and 7 wt.%) were synthesized by arc-melting U, Zr, and Nb. The production of graphene oxide (GO) from biomass presents considerable promise as a sustainable alternative substitute for traditional semiconductors. Biomass waste, abundant and often underutilized worldwide, is distinguished by its high carbon content and regenerative characteristics, rendering it an optimal resource for sustainable material production. By heating its biopolymers, lignocellulosic biomass can be used as a new material to make graphene, which forms three-dimensional turbostratic crystallites. Indonesia produced 1,508 tons of nonliving crabs in the January–March 2020 period. The number of shells generated can account for 40%–60% of the overall weight. Therefore, using crab shells made into chitosan is expected to increase the economic value and reduce waste from crab shells. The synthesis of carbonaceous materials for reduced graphene oxide (rGO) precursors using oil palm empty fruit bunches waste as a carbon source offers a sustainable solution for waste management in the palm oil industry while delivering high-performance materials. The oil palm empty fruit bunches were carbonized, followed by acid washing, pyrolysis with ferrocene (8%, 12%, and 16% variations), and ultrasonication to produce rGO. The structural, electronic, and morphological properties of the rGO were analyzed using various characterization techniques. The band gap values decreased with increasing ferrocene concentration, from 1.14 eV (8%) to 1.06 (16%), indicating enhanced electronic conductivity. XRD analysis …

Glass bottles are a top choice in the global beverage industry, but their inherent brittleness poses challenges in maintaining durability. This study focused on investigating the impact of numbers of washing processes from reusing on the surface quality and mechanical properties of glass bottles after each washing cycle. Contact angle technique was used to determine surface quality of glass bottles. It was found that mechanical integrity, as reflected in internal pressure resistance values, and surface quality of glass bottles exhibited an exponential decline with each washing cycle. Thin films of zinc oxide (ZnO) and niobium (Nb)-doped ZnO were deposited on a glass substrate using the sol–gel spin coating method. Diethanolamine, isopropyl alcohol, and zinc acetate served as the stabilizers, solvent, and starting ma-terial, respectively. Niobium pentachloride was employed as the dopant source. Energy-dispersive X-ray analysis con-firmed Nb incorporation. Field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), and ultravio-let–visible spectroscopy (UV–Vis) analyses characterized the morphology, structure, and optics of the films, respective-ly. The additive manufacturing (AM) technique “Direct Metal Laser Sintering (DMLS)” is used to create 3D objects directly from 3D design data. A lightweight and complexity-free part without any expensive tooling can be fabricated easily using this method, but it is still challenging to achieve the desired mechanical strength from AM parts, as the mechanical properties of AM-produced parts vary with orientation, scan strategy, and process parameters. Single-use plastics (SUP), which are extensively utilized in food packaging, are one notable cause for the constantly growing littering issue. This novel study is one of the first attempts to systemically analyze food packaging data to reveal the potential for plastic packaging material reduction or substitution by utilizing a primary packaging material summary of single items sold in Finnish supermarkets. β-Nickel hydroxide (Ni(OH)2) nanosheet–modified glassy carbon for pseudocapacitors was successfully prepared. The nanosheets were synthesized via a conventional growth seeding method combined with hydrothermal treatment. Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) characterization indicated the hexagonal structure of the nanosheets of around 15 nm in size, and X-ray diffraction (XRD) pattern confirmed the β-phase lattice crystal. These nanosheets used to modify the glassy carbon surface, increased the electroactive surface area by around 15 times. Biaxial-oriented polypropylene (BOPP) films are characterized by unfavorable aging behavior because of their poor susceptibility to high temperatures, humidity, and high electric fields. This makes them unqualified to withstand harsh operating conditions, such as in capacitor applications. This study investigates the impact of annealing BOPP samples at 100 °C for five hours after fluorination at different times (15, 30, and 60 minutes) on their electrical and mechanical performance under electro-thermal stresses. Scanning electron microscope (SEM) images confirm that there is an increase in surface roughness and the formation of a dense layer of fluorine-containing groups monotonically with fluorination time.
