This study evaluated the remineralization potential of a ceramic–polyelectrolyte system, based on a novel combination of hydroxyapatite nanoparticles (HAp NPs) and a hyaluronic acid (HY) matrix, for dental enamel, a tissue that remains challenging to repair in clinical dentistry. Nano-Hydroxyapatite (nanoHAp) powder was synthesized and characterized using X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), field-emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM), dynamic light scattering (DLS), and zeta potential analysis to confirm their crystalline structure, functional groups, morphology, particle size distribution, and colloidal stability. HY-based suspensions (remineralizing lotions) containing 5, 10, and 12 wt% of the synthesized nanoHAp particles were formulated via a …
Investigating The Role Of Tesserae In Energy Absorption In Shark Cartilage, Molly Dobrow
Investigating The Role Of Tesserae In Energy Absorption In Shark Cartilage, Molly Dobrow
UNF Graduate Theses and Dissertations
Unlike mammals, shark endoskeletons are composed of cartilage, which is less stiff compared to bone. Despite this structural disadvantage, sharks have risen to become apex predators, with reported maximum posterior bite force estimates approximating 5914 N in bull sharks. Shark jaws are estimated to undergo high cycle loading within the organism’s lifecycle without evidence of failure. Fatigue resistance may relate to mineral distribution within a component of the endoskeletal system – tesserae. Tesserae are thin, roughly hexagonal tiles composed of calcium phosphate hydroxyapatite (HA) crystals and grow by accretion to eventually surround the hyaline cartilage core. Though tesserae dimensions are …
Bio Inspired Lightweight Composite Material Design For 3d Printing, Kaushik Thiyagarajan
Bio Inspired Lightweight Composite Material Design For 3d Printing, Kaushik Thiyagarajan
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Lightweight material design is an indispensable subject in product design. The lightweight material design has high strength to weight ratio which becomes a huge attraction and an area of exploration for the researchers as its application is wide and increasing even in every day-to-day product. Lightweight composite material design is achieved by selection of the cellular structure and its optimization. Cellular structure is used as it has wide multifunctional properties in addition to the lightweight characteristics. Applications of light weight cellular structures are wide and is witnessed in all industries from aerospace to automotive, construction to product design. In this …
