Multi walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNT) were added to aluminum powder (99.97% pure) to produce a composite material. Three mixing techniques were examined

1 Low energy mixing: Using a Turbula mixer with two different speeds 48 and 67 rpm.

2 High energy mixing: Using a ball mill without adding any balls in the mixing jars with two speeds 300 and 400 rpm.

3 Ball milling: Using the ball mill (with steel balls) to mix higher CNT weight fraction samples for the electrical resistivity tests.

Prerapation And Supercapacitor Property Of Al Doped Co3O4, Xin Ge, Ye Chen, Chun-Xia Zhang, Chang Shu

With KOH as precipitator to prepare Aluminum doped Co3O4,X-ray diffraction indicated that the doping Al did not change the crystal structure of Co3O4.Electrochemical properties of the sample were tested by cyclic voltammetry and constant-current charge/discharge.The results showed that the chemical doping improved the specific capacitance.When the mol ratio of Co(Ⅱ) with Al(Ⅲ)was 1∶0.05,the specific capacitance was up to 518.07 F/g within 0~400 mV potenitial at current density 5 mA/cm2.

Aluminum-alumina nanocomposites were synthesized using mechanical alloying of blended component powders of pure constituents. This study was performed on various powder mixtures with aluminum as the matrix and alumina as the reinforcement with volume fractions of 20, 30, and 50 % and Al2O3 particle sizes of 50 nm, 150 nm, and 5 µm. X-ray diffraction (XRD) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) techniques were used for the crystal structure and microstructural characterization of the powders at different stages of milling. Alum and PACl Coagulation. Coagulation occurs by interaction of aluminum hydrolysis products with the contaminant such as colloidal particles. It is necessary to consider the different aluminum species that may present during specific conditions, since the mechanism of turbidity removal is dependent upon them. PACl consists of preformed aluminum hydrolysis products, which are stable below pH 6 and less sensitive than in situ hydrolysis product, alum. The benefits of PACl relative to alum have been investigated as a function of pH and Al dosages. The debonding characteristics of patched structures are investigated in this study by means of an analytical model. In particular, the effects the lay-up sequence and edge tapering of a carbon-reinforced epoxy patch, as well as the beveling of an aluminum patch, have on the initiation, stability, and extent of the debonding are considered. The results presented show that both the degree of edge-tapering and the patch properties must be carefully selected in order to optimize the patched structure. The problem of cracking in electrical apparatus bushings as a result of thermal stresses was investigated. The bushings were composed of cycloaliphatic epoxy insulators with embedded aluminum conductors. The problem is due to the difference in coefficients of thermal expansion of the two materials. A solution to the problem had been to coat the conductors before they were formed together with the epoxy insulators. The coating was assumed to prevent cracking by allowing movement between the two materials as their dimensions changed during thermal expansion and contraction. The contribution of the coating was to be established.

Proposed waste package designs will require the addition of neutron absorbing material to prevent the possibility of a sustained chain reaction occurring in the fuel in the event of water intrusion. Due to the low corrosion rates of the fuel matrix and the Zircaloy cladding, there is a possibility that the neutron absorbing material will corrode and leak from the waste container long before the subsequent release of fuel matrix material. It was intended that the alloy be thoroughly investigated for martensite transformation that would make the alloy "super-elastic," but due to the many difficulties that arose this was not possible. Attempts to grow a single crystal from the cast alloy were not successful because of the difficulties that were encountered with the Kanthal resistance furnace (referred to later). Consequently, the growing of the single crystal was abandoned and the alloy was tested in the poly-crystalline form.

It was the purpose of this study to construct a universal mount, to construct a protective lead shield, to operate the instrument, and to provide a pole figure using the transmission method of Schulz and Decker. There are at present several lengthy x-ray methods of determining the grain orientation of metals. These methods are mainly photographic. In order to provide a rapid means of obtaining the necessary information concerning the grain orientation of a metal, a universal mount was constructed.

It has long been recognized that electrolytic zinc cells are extremely sensitive to impurities. In fact, cer­tain impurities present in amounts as low as 0.1 mg/1 cause a serious loss of current efficiency. If a metal is first cold-worked and then heated to a sufficient temperature for an adequate length of time, the hardening properties due to cold-working disappear, and the metal will return more or less to its original state. Upon examination of the microstructure, we find that new grains have replaced the old grains through what is called recrystallization. The final size of the recrystallized grains depends upon three important variables--the degree of cold-work or deforma­tion, annealing temperature, and annealing time.
