Effect Of Compaction Pressure On The Structure And Mechanical Properties Of Functionally Graded Aluminium-Glass Microsphere (Fgagm) Foams Produced By Powder Metallurgy Process, Vicheka Moeun, Seksak Asavavisithchai
Journal of Metals, Materials and Minerals
Functionally graded aluminium-glass microsphere (FGAGM) foams were successfully fabricated via powder metallurgy. The influence of compaction pressure on the structural and mechanical properties of the foams was systematically investigated. The study observed that increasing compaction pressure enhanced the green (pre-sintering) density of FGAGM foam, while post-sintering densities exhibited a decreasing trend with higher compaction pressures. The mechanical examination indicated that mechanical properties improved significantly with higher compaction pressures. While higher compaction pressures generally improve mechanical properties, the study identified that excessive pressures could lead to the fracture of GM particles, introducing defects that compromise the foam's structural integrity. Therefore, determining …

Journal of Metals, Materials and Minerals
Hypothesis: Some types of cleaning methods are not very effective and can actually increase damage to the optical parts being cleaned. As an alternative to these methods, we propose the use of gel-like substances to remove contaminants from optical surfaces. We have developed a method for cleaning optical glass surfaces that uses organogels, which are based on copolymers of methyl methacrylate and methacrylic acid. These organogels are loaded with polyethylene glycol, and aluminum oxide particles (Al2O3), which help to effectively remove contaminants without causing damage to the surface. Experiments: Al2O3 nanoparticles prepared by a Nano Spray Dryer were added to …

This study investigates how sodium tungstate concentration (20–46 wt.%) and current density (40–60 A/dm²) affect the microstructure, wettability, mechanical properties, and tribological behavior of electrodeposited Ni-W coatings. Results show that increasing current density markedly raises crack density (from <100 to >400 cracks/cm²), while tungstate concentration has minimal effect. XRD confirms Ni-W solid solution formation, with higher tungsten content refining grains and increasing hardness—peaking at 900 HV at 50 A/dm² (an 80% rise from 500 HV at 40 A/dm²). However, excessive stress at 60 A/dm² leads to microcracking and hardness plateauing (~650–700 HV). Higher crack density improves wettability (contact angle ~17°), enhancing lubricant …100>

This study develops SnO2-based gas sensors integrated with a low-temperature co-fired ceramic (LTCC) micro hotplate for ethanol detection. SnO2 nanoparticles were synthesized using a simple precipitation method, and sensing layers with varying thicknesses around 0.24 µm, 0.71 µm, and 1.20 µm were applied to evaluate their influence on performance. The results show that the optimal configuration is a 0.71 µm layer, offering high sensitivity, fast response, and efficient recovery. Operating at a low voltage of 3.2 V, the sensors exhibit low power consumption, suitable for portable and battery-operated applications. The gas-sensing mechanism relies on changes in resistance due to interactions …

Photocathodic protection is an alternative cathodic protection technique to protect metals by photo-generated electrons from a coupled semiconductor film under solar light. In this report, ZnO nanorods and heterostructure ZnO/ZnS nanorod films on FTO substrates were studied for their photocathodic protection for 304 stainless steels (304 SS) in a 3.5 wt% NaCl solution. The ZnO and ZnO/ZnS nanorods were fabricated on FTO substrates by spray pyrolysis and hydrothermal processes. The photocathodic performances of the ZnO and ZnO/ZnS photoanodes coupled with 304 SS samples were examined by Open-Circuit Potential (OCP), polarization curve analysis, and electrochemical impedance spectra (EIS). The ZnO/ZnS photoanodes …

This study reports a two-step synthesis method for producing hybrid nanoparticles composed of gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) and nitrogen-doped carbon dots (CDs). Initially, we employed hydrothermal synthesis to fabricate CDs derived from mangosteen peel extract, which exhibits green light emission. Subsequently, the hybrid AuNPs/CDs were synthesized by inducing plasma in a solution containing CDs and a gold precursor, namely gold(III) chloride trihydrate. Our primary aim was to investigate the key parameters influencing the synthesis process. We assessed the colloidal properties of the AuNPs/ CDs by introducing a stabilizer, specifically sodium alginate, and examined how factors such as the presence of sodium …

Hot dip galvanized steels were tested in the atmospheric tropical climate environments of Thailand for 12 month from March 2021 to March 2022. Three locations were studied, i.e. a rural area at Saraburi in the central part, an industrial area at Chonburi in the eastern part, and a coastal/urban area at Songkhla in the southern part of Thailand. The thickness loss of the galvanized steel samples was measured by the weight loss method. Types of corrosion products observed on the samples were zincite, wulfingite, hydrozincite, and simonkolleite. All of them were found on the sample at Songkhla. Three of them, …

This research focuses on enhancing the value of coffee waste by converting it into activated carbon for removing Pb²⁺ ions from contaminated water. Coffee grounds were activated with KOH and carbonized at 600°C for 4 h to produce activated carbon (CGAC), then modified with arginine via hydrothermal treatment at 120°C for 48 h to create Arg-CGAC. The adsorbents' chemical and physical properties were analyzed using SEM, FT-IR, BET, and pHpzc methods. Batch experiments revealed that Arg-CGAC exhibited superior Pb2+ adsorption (223.10 mg∙g‒1) compared to CGAC (119.23 mg∙g‒1) under optimal conditions. Isotherm analysis showed stronger adsorbate-adsorbent interactions and a more endothermic …

In this work, the influence of hydroxyapatite (HA) addition to the calcium/zirconium-doped barium titanate (BCZT) piezoceramic was investigated to evaluate its potential for bone-repair applications. The relationship between the physical, electrical, and biological properties of the (100-x)BCZT-(x)HA composite was observed via various techniques. The HA powder was synthesized via precipitation method, whereas the BCZT powder was produced by solid-state reaction to prepare the (100-x)BCZT-(x)HA composites, where x = 0 wt% to 50 wt%. The results showed that the dielectric, ferroelectric, and piezoelectric properties of the (100-x)BCZT-(x)HA composites decreased dramatically as introducing HA into BCZT due to the occurrence of secondary …
