Natural radionuclides from building materials are one of the potential sources of external as well as internal radiation exposure to the human body. Currently, this exposure has been increasing since people spend more than of their time indoors (ICRP 1991). Commonly used building materials from Kinondoni District were investigated using γ-spectrometry; their activity concentrations of 226Ra, 232Th and 40K in Bq/kg were measured. The results showed that average values of activity concentrations of 226Ra, 232Th and 40K were 15.62, 21.51 and 237.99 Bq/kg, respectively. The present study aimed to analyze the application of waste material from copper production– copper slag (ŻŻL) as filler for composites based on the high-density polyethylene (HDPE). Copper slag filler was introduced in the amounts of 1–20 wt%, and its influence on the appearance (color analysis), chemical structure (Fourier-transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy), microstructure (optical microscopy), as well as static (tensile tests) and dynamic (dynamical mechanical analysis (DMA)) mechanical properties of composites were investigated. The trace amounts of carbon dioxide and hydrogen sulfide in raw biogas lower its calorific value,cause corrosion and make it hard to compress biogas into the cylinder. Raw biogas was obtainedfrom anaerobic digestion of cow dung and market wastes. The gas was stored in tubes or urine bagbefore upgrading. Natural zeolite rocks, maize cobs, steel wire, desulphurizer, and worn-out tyreswere used as the upgrade materials. The composition of biogas was recorded before and afterupgrading using a GP180 portable biogas analyzer from Henan, China. The measured level of rawbiogas was 0.0227% H2S, >20% CO2 and 52-56% CH4. This paper reports an investigation of the influence of carbonitriding conditions for 20MnCr5 low alloy steel. Three gaseous carbonitriding conditions were investigated based on different carbon and nitrogen potentials to attain varying levels of carbon between 0.62 and 0.93% mass, whereas for nitrogen between 0.19 and 0.26% mass at the surface. Analysis of retained austenite and residual stress distributions was conducted using X-ray diffraction technique. The effective case depth varied between 900 and 1200 µm. The case microstructures were characterized by varying proportions of retained austenite and martensite, while the core contained essentially bainitic microstructures. Dye molecules that absorb light in the visible region are key components in many applications, including organic photovoltaics, biological fluorescent labeling, super-resolution microscopy, and energy transport. One family of dyes, known as squaraines, has received considerable attention recently due to their favorable electronic and photophysical properties. In addition, these dyes have a strong propensity for aggregation, which results in emergent materials properties, such as exciton delocalization. This will be of benefit in charge separation and energy transport along with fundamental studies in quantum information. The Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT) desires to use a vehicle, bicycle, and pedestrian combination bridge railing system along pedestrian and bicycle bridge paths. The system was evaluated per MASH 2016.
In full-scale crash test no. MNPD-3, the system was evaluated according to MASH test designation no. 3-11. The 2014 Dodge Ram 1500 crew cab pickup truck impacted the system 71¼ in. upstream from the centerline of post no. 4 with a speed of 63.4 mph at an angle of 25.3 degrees. The combination railing system was found to meet the AASHTO MASH 2016 TL-3 impact safety criteria.

The results of a study present the effect of new modified ingredients on the complex of properties of composite elastomeric materials. Methods for modifying mineral fillers have developed. It found that the introduction of modified ingredients into the composition of elastomeric compositions enhances the interfacial interaction at the “rubber-filler” interface and the formation of additional bonds between rubber macromolecules and functional groups, resulting in an improvement in the complex of properties of the compositions. New accelerators, activators for vulcanization of rubbers and plasticizers with stabilizing properties have proposed, and their optimal contents in the composition have determined.

Aimed studies on the synthesis of metal complexonates have carried out. The reaction of obtaining zincate zincate oxyethylene diphosphonic acid OEDP has studied. On the basis of synthesized zincate-OEDP, compositions of corrosion inhibitors and deposits of mineral salts with the addition of a vacuum residue of monoethanolamine (RMEA) and polyaminocrotanol (PKI-3), which are able to effectively suppress corrosion processes in environments with different initial corrosive activity, have been compiled. As a result of the research on the utilization of polyethylene terephthalate-containing household waste, a promising direction was identified in the production of a new type of secondary polyethylene terephthalate (SPET) - unsaturated polyesters.It was revealed that the final product, which formed when the alcoholization process is complete in any proportion of of glycol and secondary polyethylene terephthalate, is the bisalkylent terephthalate of terephthalic acid; the content of the alcoholysis product consists of bisalkylent terephthalate, different molecule mass, functionally hydroxyl-containing complex polyester polyol and free diols.

The food packaging industry explores economically viable, environmentally benign, and non-toxic packaging materials. Biopolymers, including chitosan (CH) and gelatin (GE), are considered a leading replacement for plastic packaging materials, with preferred packaging functionality and biodegradability. CH, GE, and different proportions of silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) are used to prepare novel packaging materials using a simple solution casting method. Ischemic diseases, including myocardial infarction, stroke and limb ischemia, are life-threatening vascular diseases with high mortality. Under ischemic condition, less blood supply causes insufficient oxygen and nutrients transported to the affected tissues, which leads to cell death. To support cell survival under ischemia, oxygen and nutrients (especially glucose) are needed for aerobic respiration to generate energy. Therefore, directly supplying oxygen and glucose to the ischemic tissues is a promising therapy for ischemic diseases. Vacuum drying can dehydrate materials further than dry heat methods, while protecting sensitive materials from thermal degradation. Many industries have shifted to vacuum drying as cost-or time-saving measures. Small-scale vacuum drying, however, has been limited by the high costs of specialty scientific tools. To make vacuum drying more accessible, this study provides design and performance information for a small-scale open source vacuum oven, which can be fabricated from off-the-shelf and 3-D printed components. Solid Oxide Fuel Cells are devices that use electrochemical reactions to convert chemical energy from fuel to electricity. In comparison with coal power plants, a Solid Oxide Fuel Cell, produces a higher electrical conversion efficiency. However, at higher temperatures (1000°C) it creates a lower ionic conductivity, which limit the Solid Oxide Fuel Cells. When lowering the temperature, the ohmic resistance increases. Conducting polymers are organic semiconductors characterized by conjugated backbones (alternating single-double bonds) that enable mixed ionic-electronic conductivity. Their polymeric nature, tunable band structure and reversible redox capability have demonstrated fundamental advances in the fields ranging from electrochemical energy storage, sensing, to electro/photo catalysis and neuromorphic engineering. Conjugated backbones, the origin of all the unique physical and chemical properties associated with conducting polymers, prevent their solubility due to high lattice energy which hinders processing. A Lagrangian experimental study of an axisymmetric turbulent water jet is performed to investigate the highly anisotropic and inhomogeneous flow field. Measurements are conducted within a Lagrangian exploration module, an icosahedron apparatus, to facilitate optical access of three cameras. Stereoscopic particle tracking velocimetry results in three-component tracks of position, velocity and acceleration of the tracer particles within the vertically oriented jet with a Taylor-based Reynolds number Reλ≃230. Analysis is performed at seven locations from 15 diameters up to 45 diameters downstream. Wastewater sludge is an overlooked source of fat, oil, and grease (FOG) that could be converted into biodiesel. The United States produces about 8 million tons of sludge per year. The disposal cost for this amount of sludge is about 2 billion US dollars. The widespread availability and low cost of sludge compared to other biodiesel raw materials make it an economical choice for a renewable fuel. A biologic drug is a drug that is produced by a living organism. Biologic drugs are used to treat various medical conditions such as arthritis, diabetes, or certain forms of cancers due to their high potency and high selectivity of action. Drawbacks of biologics include their poor stability in the gastrointestinal tract and their poor absorption. In effect, this gives the drugs very low bioavailability and short therapeutic half-lives. To combat these obstacles, current delivery methods include subcutaneous injections at home or intravenous or intramuscular injections in a medical facility.

Classical bosonic systems may be tailored to support topological order and unidirectional edge transport exploiting gauge fields. Here, we theoretically explore how synthetic gauge fields may be used to induce higher-order topological phases and zero-energy boundary states. We demonstrate these principles in two types of three-dimensional topolectrical circuits with synthetic gauge fields threading through their reduced two-dimensional lattices, leading to a half-quantized quadrupole charge within a region of the momentum space.
