The conventional Hummers method for graphene production requires large quantities of hazardous chemicals, causing environmental impacts and sustainability concerns. This study investigated mangosteen-peel extract as a natural alternative in liquid phase exfoliation of graphite, exploiting the structural similarity between condensed tannins and graphite, which enables π−π interactions. Four exfoliation processes were studied: shear force via a homogenizer (9,500 rpm and 14,000 rpm for 41 min), sonication using an ultrasound bath (200 W and 400 kHz) for 2 h and 3 h at 50℃ and their sequential combinations. The results confirmed successful graphite exfoliation yielding samples with I2D/IG ratios of 0.51 …

Magnetocaloric Effect Of Gdtbdyerpr Rare-Earth High-Entropy Alloy, Yu Liu, Lei Gao, Jun Peng, Haitao Guo
Journal of Metals, Materials and Minerals
In this study, a GdTbDyErPr rare-earth high-entropy alloy (RE HEA) was successfully synthesized and its magnetic properties and magnetocaloric effect (MCE) were systematically investigated. The results indicate that the as-cast GdTbDyErPr RE HEA exhibits a single-phase hexagonal close-packed (HCP) structure with lattice parameters of a = 3.609 Å and c = 5.734 Å. Based on large parameter Ω, high mixing entropy (ΔSmix), and small parameters δ and εi, it can be inferred that the GdTbDyErPr alloy forms a disordered solid solution. The GdTbDyErPr RE HEA undergoes a first-order magnetic transition near about 143 K. The parameters |∆ |, RC, and …

This study attempted to seek and verify the scientific aspects responsible for crawling in ceramic glazes. The selected additive was magnesium oxide (MgO). The glazes were applied on porcelain biscuits and fired between 1100℃ and 1300℃. The degree of crawling was enhanced with increasing amount of MgO, which was accompanied by formation of forsterite (Mg2SiO4) as a major phase. Complete island separation was achieved with 10 wt% MgO with good wettability and shiny surface. The morphology of the glaze demonstrated this phase as small crystals within the glaze layer. Addition of MgO resulted in a continuous decrease in the thermal …

N-(4-Bromobenzoyl)-8-methoxypsoralen-4-amine (BNB) is a psoralen derivative with potent cytotoxic activity against breast cancer cells but with limited pharmaceutical application and therapeutic potential due to its extremely low aqueous solubility. To overcome this limitation, β-cyclodextrin (βCD) and its derivatives dimethyl-βCD (DMβCD), hydroxypropyl-βCD (HPβCD), and sulfobutylether-βCD (SBEβCD) were investigated as carriers to enhance BNB's aqueous solubility via cyclodextrin inclusion complexation. A combined computational–experimental strategy was employed, integrating molecular docking, 500-ns all-atom molecular dynamics simulations in quintuplicate runs (2.5 µs in total), and experimental validation by phase solubility analysis, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). Docking and simulations revealed …

The Performance Of The Heat Affected Zone Of 9% Ni Steel Narrow Gap Joint Performed By The Gmaw Process With Rotating Electrode, Jorge Carlos Ferreira Jorge, Jeferson Frederico Monteiro Costa, Matheus Campolina Mendes, Luís Felipe Guimarães De Souza, Hiron Akira Yamada Magalhães, Leonardo Sales Araújo
Journal of Metals, Materials and Minerals
This work investigates the mechanical properties and microstructural evolution of the heat-affected zone of 9% Ni steel narrow-gap welded joints produced by the GMAW process with a rotating electrode, since no literature on this subject is available. This process is an innovation of the GMAW process, which permits narrow gap welding because the circular motion of the electrode overcomes the main issue of the sidewall's lack of fusion observed in the conventional process. However, the rotation movement of the electric arc imposes a higher peak temperature at the heat affected zone, which can negatively affect the mechanical properties. The joints …

Single-functional laser ablation resistant materials can no longer meet the practical needs. High-entropy perovskites with infinite chemical composition, tunable bandgap structure, and efficient thermal management capabilities provide new ideas for developing novel high-reflectivity and low-thermal-conductivity multifunctional laser ablation resistant materials. Herein, leveraging these unique advantages of high-entropy perovskites in optics and thermodynamics, four entropy-controlled perovskite coatings, Ba(Zn1/2Ta1/2)O3 (BZTO), Ba(Zn1/3Ta1/3Nb1/3)O3 (BZTNO), Ba(Zn1/4Ta1/4Nb1/4Ti1/4)O3 (BZTNTO) and Ba(Zn1/5Ta1/5Nb1/5Ti1/5Zr1/5)O3 (BZTNTZO) are designed. Through time-dependent laser ablation experiments, the optical and thermal properties are comprehensively evaluated. And laser ablation behavior …

The QSBoBa glasses with chemical formula 10 Quartz sand + (50-x) B2O3 + 10BaO + 30Na2O + xNd2O3 (x = 0, 0.5, 1, 1.5, and 2 mol%) were prepared by a conventional melt-quenching technique. The successfully fabricated glass samples will be analyzed based on their physical, structural, optical and luminescent properties. The XRD and FTIR spectra have been included to observe the complete structural properties. Optical absorption spectra revealed several characteristic transitions, with a prominent hypersensitive transition 4I9/2→4G5/2 at 584 nm, indicating an increasing asymmetry and disorder at higher Nd3+ concentrations. The photoluminescence emission spectra demonstrated strong radiative transitions of …
