Thermal Decomposition Products Of Kynol And Nomex With Reference To Structure And Toxicity, Shaker H. El-Sherbini
Thermal Decomposition Products Of Kynol And Nomex With Reference To Structure And Toxicity, Shaker H. El-Sherbini
Theses
The purpose of this investigation was to study the combustion products of KYNOL and NOMEX as a fire retardant fibers. From the quantitative analysis data of the combustion products, the polymer structure is discussed and the property of thermal stability is explained.
From the analysis of the combustion products, the toxicity indices for the two fibers are determined. It is found to be 0.1 for KYNOL and 0.71 for NOMEX. This can be interpreted to mean that, if one gram of MIDI, is decomposed and the combustion products were diffused in one cubic meter of air, the probability of dying …
A Study Of The Vibrational Spectra Of Some Monosubstituted Benezene Derivatives Of Group Via Of The Periodic Table, Fawzi S. Rasheed
A Study Of The Vibrational Spectra Of Some Monosubstituted Benezene Derivatives Of Group Via Of The Periodic Table, Fawzi S. Rasheed
Theses
The vibrational frequencies for (C6H5)2Se, (C6H5)2Te, (C6H5)2Se2, (C6H5)2Te2, (C6H5)2Hg, and (C6H5-Se)2Hg are completely assigned and are consistent with the vibrational assignments for (C6H5)2O, (C6H5)2S, and (C6H5)2S2 previously reported. Further, whereas (C6H5)2O and to a lesser extent (C6H …
A Study Of The Vibrational Spectra Of Some Monosubstituted Pyridines, Hussein Ibrahim Abdel-Shafy
A Study Of The Vibrational Spectra Of Some Monosubstituted Pyridines, Hussein Ibrahim Abdel-Shafy
Theses
Infrared spectra in the range (4000-250 cm-1) and Raman spectra in the range (4000-150 cm-1) of pyridine, 2-, 3- and 4-chloro-, bromo-, and methylpyridines, 2-fluoro-, 2-amino and 4-ethylpyridines have been measured. The spectra, vibration and assignments of the observed frequencies of 2-amino-, and 4-ethylpyridines are presented for the first time. The infrared data for 2-fluoropyridine is combined with the previously reported Raman data of Stephenson and Voelz to allow complete vibrational assignments for this compound for the first time. Frequency assignments for the other molecules are re-examined and where necessary changes and/or additions in frequency assignments …
Rubbery Acrylic Polymer Adhesives, Steven Walter
Rubbery Acrylic Polymer Adhesives, Steven Walter
Theses
This study shows how rubbery acrylic polymer adhesives can be used to adhere rubber substrates to each other. Two substrate rubber compounds were used. A styrene-butadiene copolymer and a styrene-acrylonitrile copolymer. The adhesives were homopolymers based on polybutyl acrylate and poly2-ethyl hexyl acrylate.
Two reference standards were used. The first was commercial rubber based, solvent cements. The second was commercial acrylic solution polymers. All experimental work was compared to these standards. An attempt was made to optimize the adhesive components, as well as the adhesive application procedures and curing conditions.
A primer coating consisting of polymer, monomer, and catalyst was …
Biocatalytic Oxidation Of Nitrilotriacetate, Saul Hammerman
Biocatalytic Oxidation Of Nitrilotriacetate, Saul Hammerman
Theses
The specific scope of this work is to study the biological and chemical effects of a single genetic strain of bacteria, Bacillus subtilis #9524, on the specific destruction to innocuous products of sodium nitrilotriacetate (NTA) and sodium tripolyphosphate (STPP). Insofar as the same strain of bacteria was used each time, under limited variability and sterile conditions, the side effects of multiple bacterial strains and their inter-relationships among themselves and the organic substrates are eliminated. This has allowed for excellent replication of results.
This is a generalized technique for the evaluation of the biodegradability of a compound. Whereas tests with activated …
An Analysis Of The Geneva Mechanism As A Timing Device, Hubert W. Meyer
An Analysis Of The Geneva Mechanism As A Timing Device, Hubert W. Meyer
Theses
A mathematical analysis of the Geneva mechanism was conducted to determine the potential of this device as a tinting mechanism, and the feasibility of replacing the widely used pallet and starwheel escapement with a Geneva mechanism.
The primary objective of the study was to determine if the Geneva mechanism will attain a terminal velocity, and if so, how much time is required to reach this velocity.
To accomplish this objective, the differential equation of motion for the system was derived using Lagrangian dynatos. The equation was programmed and solved on a digital computer.
The study indicated that the Geneva mechanism …
The Chemistry Of Azides, Edward D. Nelson
The Chemistry Of Azides, Edward D. Nelson
Theses
A review of the decomposition of alkyl and aryl azides by thermolysis and photolysis has been accomplished. Organic azides are a very distinct species that undergo its own unique reactions. Azides decompose to form an electron deficient nitrogen having a sextet of elcctrons. This is called a Nitrene. Nitrenes can exist in the singlet or triplet state. The triplet behaves like a diradical. General and specific reactions of nitrenes have been shown with detailed mechanisms accounting for the products. The main modes of nitrene stabilization are rearrangement, hydrogen abstraction and insertion. Insertion is characteristic of singlet species and abstraction characteristic …
Continuous Interfacial Polycondensation Of Nylon 6-10, Sumer Raj Hundia
Continuous Interfacial Polycondensation Of Nylon 6-10, Sumer Raj Hundia
Theses
Nylon 6-10 has been prepared by continuous interfacial polycondensation hexamethylenedlamine and sebacoyl chloride in a stirred system. The effect of monomer concentration and stirring on the intrinsic viscosity of the polyamide 6-10 solution in m-cresol was measured.
As stirring (RPM) and monomer increased the intrinsic and the polymer yield through a maximum. Diffusion coefficients (DAB) for hexamethylenedlamine were for hexamethylenedlamine were and were used for the calculations of jD factors and K/DAB ratios. A relationship and jD factors was established by a correlation curve.
