Silicon nitride and zirconia were mixed with SiO2, MgO, Y2O3 as sintering additives and pressureless sintered at 1650℃ in N2 atmosphere for 2 h. The XRD results showed a-Si3N4 was partially transformed to b-Si3N4 with 3:3:5 weight ratio of SiO2 : MgO : Y2O3. However, at 5 wt% of ZrO2 addition promoted phase transformation of a-Si3N4 to b-Si3N4 while 35 wt% of ZrO2 completely transformed to b-Si3N4 phase. Si3N4 has a lower density than ZrO2, bulk density of samples increases in correlation with the amount of ZrO2. Because there was no difference in hardness and flexural strength between sintered Si3N4 …

We perform calculations of the adsorption energy of O2, CO2, and NO2 molecules on germanene by using the density functional theory (DFT). We find two favorable configurations for O2, the U-site and V-site configurations with similar adsorption energies of -4.10 and -4.32 eV. As for NO2, we find two favorable configurations, the T-site and DB-site configurations. The T-site configuration is 0.98 eV more stable than the IB-site one, and both configurations are chemically adsorbed by germanene. On the contrary for CO2, we find a T-site configuration with adsorption energy of 0.42 eV and the configuration physically adsorbed by germanene.

AISI 5160 alloy steel grade with complete martensite structure to get the high-strength steel sheets quenched at 900 (Q1), 870 (Q2), 840 (Q3) and 810°C (Q4), respectively and temped at 780°C (Q5) and 680°C (Q6), respectively. The results show ferrite and pearlite microstructural appeared in as-sheet conditions. The strengthening rarely increased with increasing heat treatment steps, while the percentage elongation gradually decreased. The hardness change was secure with that of strengthening for the quenched martensite. In contrast, differences between the initial martensite hardness were no noticeable changes. The Q4 hardening involved the peak hardness and maximum ultimate tensile strength due …

Biodiesel production from waste palm cooking oil (WPCO) was studied. Calcium oxide with a strontium ion additive (Sr-CaO) was employed as a catalyst in transesterification reaction of used palm oil with methanol. The Sr-CaO was synthesized by co-precipitation method between SrCl2 and Ca(NO3)2, then calcined at 900°C for 5 h. The catalyst was characterized by using thermo-gravimetric analysis (TGA), X-ray diffraction (XRD), Scanning electron microscope (SEM), and Fourier transform infrared spectrometer (FT-IR). The morphology and elements content of Sr and Ca in the catalyst were confirmed by SEM-EDX. The approximate catalyst diameter is 12.6±5.9 µm. The highest conversion was 99.33% …

The mid-low grade of phosphate ore, rich by the silicate and carbonate gangue minerals needs a special treatment using the flotation process. Where the collectors play a pivotal role. This study was conducted to enrich an untreated phosphate ore (without washing, desliming, hydrocycling, etc.), with an eco-friendly and economic collector based on soybean oil. Different analytical techniques such as UV-Visible, ATR-FTIR spectrometric and XRD were used in order to analyse and characterize the flotation products. The effects of the parameters, pulp pH, conditioning time and flotation time on gangue removal efficiency by flotation, were investigated. Flotation tests were applied for …
