Computational Frameworks For Multi-Robot Cooperative 3d Printing And Planning, Laxmi Prasad Poudel Jul 2021

Computational Frameworks For Multi-Robot Cooperative 3d Printing And Planning, Laxmi Prasad Poudel

Graduate Theses and Dissertations

This dissertation proposes a novel cooperative 3D printing (C3DP) approach for multi-robot additive manufacturing (AM) and presents scheduling and planning strategies that enable multi-robot cooperation in the manufacturing environment. C3DP is the first step towards achieving the overarching goal of swarm manufacturing (SM). SM is a paradigm for distributed manufacturing that envisions networks of micro-factories, each of which employs thousands of mobile robots that can manufacture different products on demand. SM breaks down the complicated supply chain used to deliver a product from a large production facility from one part of the world to another. Instead, it establishes a network …

Precoder Design For Communication-Efficient Distributed Mimo Receivers With Controlled Peak-Average Power Ratio, Vinay A. Vaishampayan Jul 2021

Precoder Design For Communication-Efficient Distributed Mimo Receivers With Controlled Peak-Average Power Ratio, Vinay A. Vaishampayan

Publications and Research

We consider the problem of communicating over a relay-assisted multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) channel with additive noise, in which physically separated relays forward quantized information to a central decoder where the transmitted message is to be decoded. We assume that channel state information is available in the transmitter and show that the design of a rational-forcing precoder - a precoder which is matched to the quantizers used in the relays - is beneficial for reducing the symbol error probability. It turns out that for such rational-forcing precoder based systems, there is natural tradeoff between the peak to average power ratio in …

Bayesian Adaptive Path Allocation Techniques For Intra-Datacenter Workloads, Ali Malik, Ruairí De Fréin, Chih-Heng Ke, Hasanen Alyasiri, Obinna Izima

Conference papers

Data center networks (DCNs) are the backbone of many cloud and Internet services. They are vulnerable to link failures, that occur on a daily basis, with a high frequency. Service disruption due to link failure may incur financial losses, compliance breaches and reputation damage. Performance metrics such as packet loss and routing flaps are negatively affected by these failure events. We propose a new Bayesian learning approach towards adaptive path allocation that aims to improve DCN performance by reducing both packet loss and routing flaps ratios. The proposed approach incorporates historical information about link failure and usage probabilities into its …

Grid Strength Assessment Trough Q-V Modal Analysis And Maximum Loadability Of A Wind-Dominated Power System Using P-Q Regions, Pierre Obed Dorile

Graduate Theses and Dissertations

Climate change is a menace to the existence of the world and policymakers are trying totackle this phenomenon by deploying large-scale wind farms into their grids. Among them, wind energy shows a promising future to substitute the traditional power plants. However, the deployment of these wind farms into the grid is not a panacea that does not pose any challenges to the grid operators. Keeping the power system voltage stable while considering the strength of the transmission grid is among the major challenges facing by the transmission system operators. Amid normal operation and fault conditions, wind farms should help the …

Do Missing Link Community Smell Affect Developers Productivity: An Empirical Study, Toukir Ahammed, Sumon Ahmed, Mohammed Shafiul Alam Khan

Knowledge Engineering and Data Science

Missing link smell occurs when developers contribute to the same source code without communicating with each other. Existing studies have analyzed the relationship of missing link smells with code smell and developer contribution. However, the productivity of developers involved in missing link smell has not been explored yet. This study investigates how productivity differs between smelly and non-smelly developers. For this purpose, the productivity of smelly and non-smelly developers of seven open-source projects are analyzed. The result shows that the developers not involved in missing link smell have more productivity than the developers involved in smells. The observed difference is …

Indonesian Sentence Boundary Detection Using Deep Learning Approaches, Joan Santoso, Esther Irawati Setiawan, Christian Nathaniel Purwanto, Fachrul Kurniawan Jul 2021

Indonesian Sentence Boundary Detection Using Deep Learning Approaches, Joan Santoso, Esther Irawati Setiawan, Christian Nathaniel Purwanto, Fachrul Kurniawan

Knowledge Engineering and Data Science

Detecting the sentence boundary is one of the crucial pre-processing steps in natural language processing. It can define the boundary of a sentence since the border between a sentence, and another sentence might be ambiguous. Because there are multiple separators and dynamic sentence patterns, using a full stop at the end of a sentence is sometimes inappropriate. This research uses a deep learning approach to split each sentence from an Indonesian news document. Hence, there is no need to define any handcrafted features or rules. In Part of Speech Tagging and Named Entity Recognition, we use sequence labeling to determine …

Efficiently Estimating Survival Signature And Two-Terminal Reliability Of Heterogeneous Networks Through Multi-Objective Optimization, Daniel Bruno Lopes Da Silva Jul 2021

Efficiently Estimating Survival Signature And Two-Terminal Reliability Of Heterogeneous Networks Through Multi-Objective Optimization, Daniel Bruno Lopes Da Silva

Graduate Theses and Dissertations

The two-terminal reliability problem is a classical reliability problem with applications in wired and wireless communication networks, electronic circuit design, computer networks, and electrical power distribution, among other systems. However, the two-terminal reliability problem is among the hardest combinatorial problems and is intractable for large, complex networks. Several exact methods to solve the two-terminal reliability problem have been proposed since the 1960s, but they have exponential time complexity in general. Hence, practical studies involving large network-type systems resort to approximation methods to estimate the system's reliability. One attractive approach for quantifying the reliability of complex systems is to use signatures, …

Regulatory Reform: In The Land Of The 'Coffeenet', Martin Jarrold

Online Journal of Space Communication

Sitting down to write this article at a desk some 30 miles south of central London, and less than one degree west of the Greenwich meridian, I became immediately more conscious than usual of geography. The frequently interwoven use of such western-centric cartographic labels as Middle East, and Far East, with the geographically more precise terms of Western or Central Asia, and East and South-East Asia, sometimes causes us to confuse the actual proximity of Europe's, much larger, near-neighbour.

Since the mid-1990s the U.S. Government and military forces have placed more and more reliance on commercial satellite systems for military communications of a non-tactical nature. Requirements such as the U.S. Armed Forces Radio and Television require a great deal of bandwidth but do not require any special security protection. Further there are many other forms of communications involving national security or defense systems where a varying degree of security is required. Many of these applications do not require a very high level of "top secret" protection since these communications do involve tactical, strategic or highly classified messages. For instance, …
