Operational Structural Damage Identification Using De-Noised Modal Feature In Machine Learning, Chen Shilei
Operational Structural Damage Identification Using De-Noised Modal Feature In Machine Learning, Chen Shilei
Student Works (2020-2029)
Structural damage can severely affect the safety and functionality of the structure and lead to economic loss. Vibration-based structural damage detection has raised continuous interest over the decades, as a non-destructive way to provide warnings and predict certain faults at early stages. Compared with conventional modal parameters such as the natural frequency and mode shape, the upstream modal data, namely the frequency response function (FRF), can be a better alternative, because it is rich in modal information and can be easily obtained. However, the FRF is usually measured through experimental modal analysis (EMA) when the test object is in shut-down …
Speech Features Analysis Of The Joint Speech Separation And Automatic Speech Recognition Model, Tawseef Khan
Speech Features Analysis Of The Joint Speech Separation And Automatic Speech Recognition Model, Tawseef Khan
Student Works (2020-2029)
Speech recognition of target speakers from a mixture of voiced noises from interfering speakers in a single channel is a complex task. This is because the speech signal pattern of both the target and interfering speakers are similar and can be challenging to distinguish from one another. If the target speaker’s speech can be correctly identified, such a system can be used in interviews, courtrooms, transcribing video subtitles, etc. During conversations between multiple speakers, it is common for the voices to overlap. In such cases, it is important to separate the speech of the target speaker based on one single …
Dual-Band Doherty Power Amplifier With The Improvement Of Reactance Compensation Technique For Lte Frequency Operations, Yu Li Ming
Student Works (2020-2029)
A dual-band selection of Doherty power amplifier employing a Reactance Compensation Technique (RCT) with Gallium Nitride High-Electron-Mobility-Transistor (GaN HEMT) technology is presented. In this dissertation, the focus has been given to the design power amplifier in Doherty configuration, where it can operate at dual-band frequency and enhanced performances at 6 dB back-off from saturation power. This project applied lossy matching circuit for the input matching network and incorporated the primary motivation of using RCT and third harmonic tuning for the output matching network. The DPA designed can achieve satisfying results for the frequency of 0.8 and 2.1 GHz. The implementation …

Multibeam Array Antenna For Base Station In The Fifth-Generation Mobile Communication System, Intan Izafina Idrus
Student Works (2020-2029)
Research on the fifth-generation (5G) mobile communication system has been accelerated to meet the standardization of the International Telecommunications Union for higher data traffic and higher data rates. The main requirements of the 5G mobile communication systems are the utilization of millimeter waves, the deployment of small cells, and the use of multibeam array antennas for multiple-input multiple-output schemes. Multibeam array antennas play an important role in developing a new base station to enhance system capacity, improve network coverage, and reduce co-channel interference. The main objective of this thesis is to design a single-layer multibeam array antenna at 28 GHz …

Three-Dimensional (3d) Reconstruction Of Computed Tomography (Ct) Abdominal Images Using Visualization Toolkit (Vtk), Mat Saad Afifah Husna
Student Works (2020-2029)
A computerized tomography (CT) or computerized axial tomography (CAT) scan combines data from several X-raysito produce a detailed image of structures inside the body. CT scans produce 2D of a “slice” or section of the abdomen but the data can also be used to construct 3-dimensional images. However, CT scan unable to accurately represent the internal structure of soft tissues and soft-tissue lesions. Therefore, using the program in Visualization Tool Kit (VTK) is needed to construct a much more clearer 3D image. To reconstruct 3D images from 2D images of a “slice” or section of abdomen which will be resulting …
Detection Of Standing And Sitting Variations Based On In-Socket Piezoelectric Sensors For Transfemoral Amputees, Alnusairi Tawfik Yahya
Detection Of Standing And Sitting Variations Based On In-Socket Piezoelectric Sensors For Transfemoral Amputees, Alnusairi Tawfik Yahya
Student Works (2020-2029)
A transfemoral prosthesis is required to assist amputees to perform activities of daily living (ADL). The purely mechanical or passive prosthesis has some drawbacks such as consumption of high metabolic energy and limitations in mimicking normal dynamics and kinematics of gait pattern. In contrast, the active prosthesis offers better performance and consumes less metabolic energy. However, recent active prosthesis uses surface electromyography as its sensory system which requires massive preparation work, causes sores to the patient by its electrodes and requires a lot of computation to extract meaningful features. This thesis focuses on developing signal conditioning circuitry to classify six …

Three-Dimensional (3d) Reconstruction Of Ultrasound Foetal Images Using Visualisation Toolkit (Vtk), Henry Dusim Grace Anabela
Student Works (2020-2029)
Three-dimensional (3D) reconstruction of two-dimensional (2D) ultrasound images has been used for easier analysing of anatomy related to abnormalities. 3D image reconstruction is required as it helps doctors interpret results and assess any defects quickly. Not only does it improve the accuracy of diagnosis, but it also saves a lot of time. In this thesis, 295 slices of 2D ultrasound images of a foetal are used to do 3D reconstruction using surface rendering, volume rendering, and multiplanar rendering technique. A similar software known as 3D Slicer is also used to reconstruct the ultrasound image for comparison purpose. VTK can easily …
Hybrid Microwave Power Amplifiers For Broadband Communication, Sangaran Pragash
Hybrid Microwave Power Amplifiers For Broadband Communication, Sangaran Pragash
Student Works (2020-2029)
The software-defined radio is the future of radio technology. The development of a broadband power amplifier is the most challenging radio component to design in achieving software-defined radio goals due to the PA gain-bandwidth limitation. The distributed power amplifier (DPA) overcomes the limitation by combining output power from several transistors in an additive fashion. Matrix Amplifier (MA) consists of two or more DPA stacked together in a multiplicative manner. In this project, a high power and high gain DPA for a two-way radio system is demonstrated. The DPA exhibits 10W output power and 32dB gain across the frequency range of …
Fault Location In Distribution System Based On Voltage Sag Analysis, Ahmad Muhamad Firdaus
Fault Location In Distribution System Based On Voltage Sag Analysis, Ahmad Muhamad Firdaus
Student Works (2020-2029)
Fault in the distribution system is something that cannot be avoided. It is a recurring event that occurs due to various factors such as natural occurrence, mechanism failure, or human error. All this contributes to the phenomenon that will affect the stability of the system and result in the loss of power to the consumers. However, such a fault is something that happens unexpectedly, and it is difficult to be eliminated. Therefore, various research work has been done over the years to overcome the problem. All research is done to find the most effective method of finding the fault location …
Partial Discharge Classification For Xlpe Cable Joints Using K Nearest Neighbors Algorithm, Mohd Salleh Muhammad Shairazi
Partial Discharge Classification For Xlpe Cable Joints Using K Nearest Neighbors Algorithm, Mohd Salleh Muhammad Shairazi
Student Works (2020-2029)
Due to excellent mechanical and electrical properties, cross-linked polyethylene (XLPE) cables are commonly used in the power industry. However, cable joints are the weakest part of XLPE cables and are susceptible to insulation failures. Cable joint insulation breakup can cause large losses for power companies. It is therefore necessary to evaluate the consistency of the insulation for early detection of insulation failure. It is known that there is a link between the partial discharge (PD) and the quality of the insulation. PD analysis is an important tool for assessing the quality of insulation in cable joints. In this study, XLPE …
Classification Of Labour Pain Using Electroencephalogram Signal Based On Wavelet Method, Chong Yeh Sai
Classification Of Labour Pain Using Electroencephalogram Signal Based On Wavelet Method, Chong Yeh Sai
Student Works (2020-2029)
Electroencephalogram (EEG) is the recording of electrical activity of the cerebral cortex through electrodes placed on the scalp. EEG is used to acquire neurophysiological signals for application in clinical diagnosis and brain computer interface (BCI). However, in practical settings the EEG signals are often contaminated by signal artifacts known as the biological and environmental artifacts. These artifacts degrade EEG signals, thereby obstructing clinical diagnosis or BCI applications by distorting the observed power spectrum. Procedures for automated removal of EEG artifacts are frequently sought after in pre-processing and filtering of the EEG signals. In recent years, a combination of independent component …
Design And Development Of Fiber Bragg Grating Sensor For Detecting Of Hydrogen Gas In Transformer Oil, Mohd Raffi Samsudin
Design And Development Of Fiber Bragg Grating Sensor For Detecting Of Hydrogen Gas In Transformer Oil, Mohd Raffi Samsudin
Student Works (2020-2029)
Hermetically sealed oil-immersed transformers are the key to electricity distribution networks. They are also one of the most expensive facilities in the electricity supply network. Immediate replacement is expected for this type of transformer upon failure because it is directly connected to the customer. Transformer oil acts as insulation, coolant and condition indicator. To date, there is no economical real-time monitoring system available to monitor the transformer oil condition. Therefore, there is a need to develop a cheap, non-intrusive and non-electrical sensor to monitor the health of the transformer by measuring the amount of dissolved hydrogen gas in oil, which …
